[MARNIE???]
There were some days at the Ministry where Amery just felt like blowing everything up.

Of course, he was never entirely happy at work, but there were just some days that pushed him over the edge.

In fact, Amery was literally at the point where he was snarling at practically everyone who crossed his path. There were few things he really enjoyed about his work, and on days like these, even less.

Paperwork that needed proper filing, presentations to see to, superiors to answer to, inferiors to demand answers from--

Frankly, he couldn't wait for the day to be over.

He was turning the corner when he was suddenly smacked into a body and stumbled slightly. "Excuse me," Amery snapped, dusting off his robes where they'd be disturbed. "I doubt it would pain you to watch where you were going."

He was kind of burly.

But that was not the point! He didn't teach. Did he look even remotely like someone who was patient? Someone who didn't ridicule those who butchered the accent of his mother tongue? Someone who really agreed to do favors for strangers whom they had only met through physical collision?

Although, she did have a bit of a contagious feel to her. Not that being around this girl made him feel happy, necessarily, but he was certainly intrigued by her. And there was something catching about her, perhaps a little something that reminded him of Louisa. Which must have been why he suddenly heard himself waffling aloud.

"I--I suppose. I don't promise to teach you much," anything, really, "or be extraordinarily patient. Unlike you, I generally try to avoid encouraging and educating the discouraged uneducated."

Maybe he ought to have been concerned that he didn't radiate violent vibes.

Marnie wasn't exactly the sort of girl who concealed her emotions well. Thusly, when he agreed to teacher her something she flung her arms around him for a brief hug that probably had her ignoring most of what he said after 'I suppose'.

Otherwise she'd have told him that then there was no way that people would ever get more educated and things were probably just going to get more and more annoying.

She grinned. "As far as paying you -- well, I'm kind of poor -- but I make really good muffins. And I have rabbits, if you're ... like, into playing with bunnies or something." Hey, Mycroft liked them a lot, why not other men?

He staggered back slightly, not entirely sure what to do with the squealing bundle of ecstatic joy that was suddenly in his arms, so he stiffened slightly and stepped back all to happily to escape any sort of overt form of physical contact. Perhaps it was the sort of environment he was raised in, but there was something about physicality that, generally, spooked him.

But she was, overall, pretty harmless.

"Er, m-muffins are fine," he said, wondering if he was the only person who found the idea of him playing with rabbits or some other form of furry rodent as amusing. "This entire fiasco started by a pressing need of mine to be in Conference Room 3, but if you owl me here, I'm sure it will find its way to me somehow or the other."

Surreal? Yes. Unbelievable? Rather. And yet he was still in such a state of surprise, he had agreed.

That was probably the most surprising.

Marnie often had this effect on people: shocking them into agreeing with her because they had no idea what had just happened. She grinned a little and then nodded, almost asking him for his post address before she realized he'd said that she could owl him here.

Sometimes she forgot that wizarding owls could just go and find someone based on their name.

"I'll do that, then. Enjoy the -- er, conference." Since he was going to a conference room and that was probably what they did in conference rooms, right? Confer? In conferences?

"I--er-- I will. It--was a pleasure," he managed to say curtly, before sweeping away.

...

No, really, what had just happened?
