Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger
WHEN: Wednesday afternoon, before dinner
WHERE: Gryffindor Boys Dorm
SUMMARY: Hermione had good news for Ron and bursts in on him when he's not quite decent.
RATING: PG? Not even
STATUS: Complete

Ron was exhausted. Well, that was a bit of an understatement. Ron was completely drained of all energy. After his last class, he had gone to the library to return a Quidditch book he'd taken out recently on famous plays and how to apply them to your team and now, he was finally heading back to Gryffindor for a bit of relaxing before dinner. He'd do his homework later. Maybe.

On the way to the tower, Ron had seen a group of third years fighting in the halls and so he had to perform his prefectly duties and give them detentions. He didn't want to, it seemed like one of the boys deserved what he got, but he knew if he didn't Hermione would lecture him until the sun don't shine.

Even more extremely tired, Ron finally entered Gryffindor tower, not bothering to see if any of his friends were in the common room. He made a beeline for the dorms and hoped they were empty. When he entered his room, he saw that was indeed void of people, and so, he began to take off his uniform, intending on lounging around in some jeans and a t-shirt until dinner.

Ron jumped about a mile in the air at the sound of the door being thrown open and Hermione's exclamation of his name. Instantly turning as red as he possibly could, he scrambled for a t-shirt off his bed, holding it up to his chest as a shield as he stood behind the post of his best and willed his blush to go down at least a little.

"Hermione! Bloody hell! Every heard of knocking and then waiting for a response before entering the room?" He scrambled to put the t-shirt on, his face still bright red and his ears even redder, if that was possible. Reaching for his jeans, he slipped those on as well. Turning his back to Hermione as he did so, he buttoned them and sat down on his bed.

"Alright, I'm decent." He said softly, a little unnerved by how insanely quickly Hermione had looked away. That just confirmed his suspicions that she could never fancy him. Why would she? That was the question he constantly asked himself.

At his admonishments, Hermione squeezed her eyes closed and tried desperately hard not to think of the scene she had just walked in on. Sure, she had seen him several times at the Burrow swimming, but this was completely different. They were in his dormitory and those weren't swim shorts he was wearing. And now, the imagine she had just seen, though a rather short one, was permanently imprinted in her head and she just couldn't shake it. Though, she subconsciously admitted, it was a nice image to have.

"I'm sorry," she said, finally turning around. She looked at quickly once to make sure he was dressed before relaxing slightly when she noticed he was. "I was just so excited to tell both you and Harry -- " She looked around and frowned, noticing he was gone. "Well, I suppose I can tell you the good news and tell Harry when I see him later." Her nerves and excitement made her ramble.

Ron noticed Hermione rambling and he knew she only did that when she was nervous or excited. He guessed it was the former because why would she be excited after seeing him shirtless? she was probably horrified which is why she was so nervous. Her mind was busy thinking of ways to erase the image of him without a shirt from her head.

"Hermione, you're rambling." He said, looking at her. "What's this news you're going on and on about?"

Glancing up at him, she blushed when he pointed out how horribly she was rambling. Ducking her head, she rolled her lips between her teeth in slight embarrassment.

"Oh right," she said and then couldn't help but rock a few times on the balls of her feet. "I just came from Professor McGonagall." She paused for dramatic effect. "While she wasn't originally going to give the marks back for our first essays back until our next class, I asked her if I could go ahead and see mine. You know how nervous I get about the first marks, especially since that essay focused on what we had learned during our sixth year."

She paused again, to make sure he was paying attention and hadn't tuned her out yet. "Well, I got perfect marks," she said, smiling brightly.

Ron had very nearly tuned her out at the mention of grades and assignments. She talked about them very often and he didn't know when it was important to actually listen to her so sometimes his brain automatically tuned out. But, she seemed really excited about something and so he paid attention with extra care to see what was so exciting.

Hearing her news, he chuckled. "What else is new, Hermione? You get perfect marks all the time." He meant it sincerely and not as a joke or sarcasm. He hope his voice conveyed that. He didn't want an argument.

"Is that the news? That you got perfect?"

Despite his tone being sincere, Hermione pursed her lips. She didn't always get perfect scores - not all of her OWLs were perfect in fifth year and there were a few occasions where she rarely made a mistake.

"That's only part of the news," she said, unable to hide her smile again. "Though, I really wanted to tell both you and Harry together, but -- well, I can't possibly wait. You got a perfect score too!"

Ron's eyes nearly popped right out his body at her second part of the news. Him getting perfect? In what universe did he ever get perfect on an assignment. No, there must be a mistake. She must've seen someone else's paper by accident.

"Are you sure you didn't see someone else's mark and think it was mine?" He asked, wearily. "I never get perfect! Not even close. You know that." He didn't believe it but part of him wished it were true because he knew how proud Hermione would be of him if it were.

Hermione quickly shook her head at his doubts and took a step forward. "No, I didn't look at anyone else's paper," she said, though really, she hadn't looked at anyone's for that matter. "Professor McGonagall told me shortly after giving me my score back."

She couldn't have been anymore pleased that they had all three scored perfect marks on the assignment given a little over a week ago. It wasn't that she didn't have faith in Ron and Harry's abilities when it came to doing their school work and achieving hight marks, it's just that she knew they sometimes didn't apply themselves in a way that would actually give them the marks she knew they were capable of.

"Well, aren't you the least bit happy about it?" she asked him earnestly, having expected him to share her excitement.

"Yeah, yeah 'course I am. I'm just finding it a bit hard to believe is all." He replied, looking over at her and running a hand through his hair. "You're sure it was my paper?" He needed to know she hadn't made a mistake. He wanted her to be proud of him because of something he'd actually done and not for something she thought he'd done.

He looked over and saw the excited look on her face and hoped to Merlin that he really had gotten that mark. Hermione's approval, though most would not know this, was very important to him or rather had become very important to him in the past few years.

She gave an impatient huff, wondering why he was questioning her about this and why he couldn't understand that she was perfectly serious about the matter. "Of course I'm sure!" she exclaimed again. "I didn't see the paper for myself, Professor McGonagall wouldn't allow it - you know her rules about that sort of thing, but really, she stood there and told me barely ten minutes ago."

Though she wouldn't exactly say it out loud, she was exceedingly proud of Ron. Harry, too, but Ron especially since he tended to slack off more than Harry usually did. She just hoped he realised that she was proud.

"Oh." He said, realizing she was indeed serious, McGonagall would not have told her he'd gotten perfect if he hadn't. "Well, okay! Brilliant!" He said happily, breaking out in a smile and feeling slightly proud of himself. He'd never gotten perfect before. He'd never even come close but now he knew why Hermione was thrilled.

"It was because of your help, you know. If you hadn't corrected it and helped me along the way I would've failed as usual." It was true too. Hermione had really helped him out on this one.
