Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley
When: Saturday, shortly after lunch
Where: His dormitory
Rating: PG
Summary: Ron received that Auror packet he sent away for and Hermione is helping him fill them out.

During lunch, Ron had received an owl in response to his query about joining the Auror program once they were finished with school. Watching as he had opened it excitedly, Hermione couldn't help but smile; it was what he had always wanted to do and, a year ago, neither of them thought they would have been able to follow the childhood dreams they had before because they didn't know whether or not they were going to survive the war.

"Does it have everything?" she asked and finished her lunch as he read through it. "Once you're finished we can go back to Gryffindor to fill it out." As she had promised.

"Oh. Okay, maybe I'll just write them myself then. Don't want my answers to be filled with Gryffindor common room gossip." He grinned at her as they walked out of the Great Hall and headed to the dorms. When they got there, he said the password and led them up to his room.

"Okay. Where do we start, 'Mione?" He asked, getting out a quill and perching on his bed.

Hermione laughed slightly. "No, I don't believe they would appreciate that very much at the Ministry," she said lightly as they headed back to Gryffindor. There wasn't much talking; they had already spent most of the morning together and easily settled into a comfortable silence as they made their way through the castle.

Once in his room, Hermione sat at the end of his bed and crossed her legs. "At the beginning?" she supplied, giving an obvious answer as she reached for the packet of papers and read over the first few questions. "They just ask for the basics. After that, it looks like several short answers and an essay on why you want to be an Auror on the back."

Ron took a few of the forms in his hands and read them over, furrowing his brow slightly at the complexity of some of the question. He understood why. of course, but hello... he'd helped to save the world. Couldn't they make an exception or something?

"Buggering hell." He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I have to write an essay? I hate essays." He grumbled a bit, pulling the first form to him and filling out his name, birthdate and other necessary information.

She knew he would get upset over the essay part and she didn't doubt that when Harry filled his out that he would procrastinate with it too. Pulling one of the pages to her, she read over some of the questions.

"Has anyone in your family ever been an auror?" she asked, borrowing a spare quill from him and casting rather complex charm that would help her mimic his writing. "And - oh, this is easy. What are some of your greatest accomplishments... Prefect from your fifth to seventh year, Awards for Services to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and partially responsible for defeating Voldemort. How does that sound?"

"Good, I guess." He said with a shrug. He just wanted this all to be done so he could send the damn application in. He had wanted to be an Auror for as long as he could remember and he just wanted it to happen already. It was the only job he wanted to do.

"Describe myself in three words?" He asked out loud, reading the next question on his list. "Er..." He wasn't sure. "A little help, 'Mione? Describe me in three words, would you?"

Hermione took that to mean he was okay with what she had written. "Three words to describe yourself?" she echoed and then thought. There were a lot of descriptive words that could describe him, more than the allocated three so narrowing down just which ones would be best was hard. "Well, you're great at Chess, so I would say you're a great strategist. Obviously you're brave seeing as you've done more heroic things than most wizards," she pointed out and then looked down at the bed covers as she thought of a third one. "I suppose loyal would be a good one to put down too, since you obviously are, but they'd likely want someone who would by loyal to that department and all it stands for. Unless, of course, you have a better one?"

Those were the three she thought would look best on the application; the ones that the Auror department would be most impressed with. "Oh, you didn't answer the first question I asked you before: Has anyone in your family been an Auror?"

Ron flushed slightly as Hermione spoke, describing him and complimenting him. He didn't receive compliments all that often so when he did he was rather embarrassed by them. Plus, this was Hermione, the girl he was madly in love with who was saying it and that made it all the more meaningful.

"Er, right. I'll put those down then." He said, keeping his eyes on the page and head down to hide his blush. "Oh, um, I dunno." He replied in response to her previous question. "Not sure. Not for like several generations or something."

Hermione smiled to herself when she watched the words she said affect Ron. She really wished he could see himself the way she and many other people saw him. She mentally reminded herself to say such things more often in the future.

"I'm sure that's an acceptable answer," she said more to herself than to him as she scribbled down that there hadn't been any Aurors in his family for several generations. Looking up once she was finished, she glanced over at the part he was working on to see how he was doing.

Being in a family with so many brothers and being the youngest of them to boot made compliments and praise very rare for Ron. All of his brothers had achieved something (with the exception of Percy) and up until recently, he'd achieved practically nothing. He wasn't used to getting complimented and it would never be something he'd be fully comfortable with.

"Er, okay... best quality and worst quality." He recited out loud, chewing on the end of his quill. "Worst? Er... maybe my overprotectiveness? 'Cause that's like a good and bad quality in one, right? Is that smart or stupid?"

Now that was a hard question and one that had Hermione thinking for several moments as she leaned back on her hands and appraised him carefully. His best quality. Well, he was brave. Though if he wanted to go with the overprotective route, that would be more of a good quality than a bad one, even if it depended how one looked upon it. He was loyal, a great strategist, and had a good heart.

"I think your worst quality is your temper," she said with a bit of a smile and a titter of laughter. Of course she would know about his temper. "You can easily get riled up," she added and then bit her lip. "As for your best quality, I think overprotective might work, but they could also see that as a hindrance. So, perhaps the fact that you're good with strategy or... perhaps the fact that you never really give up?"

"Er, is it smart to put bad temepr down as a bad quality? I don't think they'd want an Auror who couldn't control his temper, eh?" He scratched his head as he thought about it. He wanted to make himself look good but at the same time these forms were going to be charmed to make sure he was honest.

"Er, I'll put he strategist things for best quality." And he did so. This all made him kind of uncomfortable. Spilling his guts on a parchment, taking about the good and bad things about him. So strange.
