Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley (mentions of Mr. and Mrs. Granger)
When: Christmas Eve
Where: Hermione's house
Rating: PG
Summary: Now that dinner is over, Ron and Hermione get to spend a bit of time together before he heads home.

Dinner had gone off without a hitch, at least Hermione had thought so. There might have been that incident where her father might have asked Ron one or two probing questions that made the redhead turn the colour of his hair, but other than that isolated incident, everything had gone splendidly. Not that she had doubted they wouldn't, she was just relieved that they had or else would have been mortified and would refuse to ever stand in her father's presence again; she knew him well enough.

After her parents ushered her off, assuring her that they would do the dishes, Hermione led Ron through the house, giving him a tour. He had been there only a few times before, but she realised he had never seen beyond the downstairs living room or dining room. Oh, and the bathroom too. Knowing her parents wouldn't mind, especially since they trusted her explicity, Hermione led Ron upstairs and pushed open the door to her room. Stepping inside she held her hands out and gave a nonchalant shurg.

"This is my room," she said. But it was obvious that it belonged to her; bookshelves lined nearly every wall with the exception of the one that had her bed on it and there were other books stacked neatly on her desk. The walls were tan, accented with white trimming, and her bed was neatly made, the blue duvet covering it nicely.

She furrowed her eyebrows momentarily, looking at him in slight confusion. "Why wouldn't I have told her?" she asked, not sure herself why he would have assumed she would have kept something like that from her mother - especially since she and Ginny were the only two people she could talk to in absolute confidence and get meaningful, trustful advice from.

"While there were books that I read on how to deal with someone who is overly stubborn and who wasn't returning the feelings I had, it was better to ask her advice, I suppose." She shrugged her shoulders, biting into her bottom lip and looking past him at her desk.

"I just... couldn't imagine telling my Mum about it." He said with a shrug of his shoulders, not letting go of Hermione's hand at any point. "It'd be too embarrassing. She would have made all kind of comments and stuff." He said, trying to explain.

"I mean, she knows now, of course." Now it made a little more sense. Whenever he'd seen Hermione's mother in the past few years, she'd always look at him for a bit and then smile. He always wondered why but it was a bit clearer now.

"I suppose it's different with girls and their mothers than with dads and their sons," she supplied, believing that that was true. She wasn't as close to her dad as she was her mum, and she had never confided in her problems with her dad (though she suspected he knew of them through her mum, anyway), so the same was bound to apply the other way around too.

"But don't worry, mum and dad both like you and have no reason whatsoever not to." She gave an affirmative nod, ending any further discussion about it, especially any further pronunciations against what she said.

Ron sighed, but nodded just the same. "Alright, fine, I believe you." He said, though he clearly didn't. Being liked by Hermione's parents was very important to him. He planned to marry her one day! He needed her parents to wholeheartedly approve and not secretly think he wasn't good enough for their daughter.

"I love you, you know... I just want to be accepted by your family." He said with a shrug. He reached out and pushed a bit of hair back from her face, tucking it behind her ear and smiling at her.

She glanced up at him with a small smile, resisting the urge to shake her head. Sometimes when he got on an idea (her family not liking him, for example, as in this case), it took a lot of coercing and persuading to convince him otherwise. "They will," she insisted, squeezing his hand while resisting the urge to lean into his hand when he tucked her hair behind ear.

"They've liked you since that day when you and Harry saved me first year from that troll in the girl's bathroom." Though she hadn't told her parents much about her life at Hogwarts, especially about the many dangerous and life threatening things she had done over the years, she had told them that.

"You told them about that?" He asked, genuinely surprised. If anything, he thought she'd told them all about how he'd teased her and made her cry not about the part where him and Harry saved her. Though he could understand her telling them that since it was what had started their friendship.

"I've apologized for being so mean to you back then, yeah? Haven't I? Well, anyway, I am sorry about that. I was a git. Still am, I reckon."

Momentarily, she was curious as to why he found it so hard to believe that he had told her parents about that and the confusion marred her face. "Of course I did. That was before all the bad things started happening - I could actually tell them about Hogwarts, about all the different creatures we saw in Hagrid's class and anything I wanted to. It wasn't until Second year and the Chamber of Secrets that I started withholding many of the things that went on at school." While she knew it was for the best that she did that, she sometimes regretted keeping her parents in the dark; her entire adolescence was unknown to him and there wasn't a way to repair that now.

Shaking her head him, she tugged at his hand. "You've apologised plenty of times," she assured him. "We were both young and children tease each other, it's the natural order of things. But it's okay now, we're okay now," she added and leaned in to kiss him, hoping it would silence any further argument he might have.

And it did. Completely. Best way for Hermione to distract Ron Weasley was to kiss him. Really, whatever he was thinking at the time would fly right out the window the moment her lips touched his.

He grinned into the kiss, reaching one hand up to cup her cheek lightly. putting plenty of feeling and love into his actions and wishing they could stay like this forever. Holidays were great, really, he loved not being in school. But, when Hermione wasn't with him... they weren't as good.
