Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Ron and Ginny Weasley
When: Sunday evening
Where: Gryffindor Boys' 7th Year Dormitory
What: Christmas list discussion, try number two! Hopefully this time, someone won't delete the thread thinking that they're saving a change. Sigh.
Rating: PG
Status: In Progress

Ginny refluffed the pillows on Harry's bed and then resettled back on them, grunting slightly in annoyance as she stared at the long scroll with the names of family and friends on the left and ideas for Christmas gifts on the right. Some names were easy to fill, like Charlie--"new gloves"--and Lupin and Tonks--"baby clothes and an engraved rattle"--and the gift she was giving to the entire Quidditch team. But beyond that? Very little. She sucked on the end of her sugar quill and sighed. Ron? Mione? Neville, she was pretty sure what to get, but--Harry?

She glanced at her wristwatch, looking at her brother for a moment and then back at the scroll. When would Harry be back from his private Occlumency lesson with Snape? It wasn't surprising that he was finally picking up the skill, now that his attitude was better; bollocks, Harry was doing DADA lessons with him, too, he and Snape had obviously achieved some kind of detente. And after the holiday break, he was going to start learning Legilimency, which made Ginny slightly nervous. Harry would be able to read her mind...it was disconcerting, that someone could have that kind of power. It made her nervous the way that true Seers did, how they just knew things. Well, other than Madame Trelawney, that woman was a total hack...and always reeked of cooking sherry...what was that about? Was she too delicate for firewhiskey? Though...

"I'd take some cooking sherry right now. Might help," she sighed to herself, pressing the heel of her hand to her forehead and banging her head back against the headboard.

Ron looked up from his quidditch magazine as he flipped through it on his bed at the sound of Ginny's voice. He had an exam earlier that morning so he was taking the rest of the day to just let his mind have a bit of a break before he launched into studying for the next one. He vaguely wondered why Ginny was in Harry's bed if he wasn't around. He knew they often went there to study, talk, whatever but when Harry wasn't around it was a bit odd but reminded him of when they were younger and shared a room.

"Wish I could help you there, Gin." He said, flipping a page. "I'm all out of the firewhiskey Charlie sent too. What're you doing anyhow?"

Ginny jumped slightly at the sound of her brother's voice, not entirely realising that she had spoken out loud. "Oh, sorry. Um--I'm working on my Christmas list," she sighed, glaring at the scroll. "I got all of the easy ones done, but now I'm down to the toughest people to find things for. Why is our family so large? Can't we do without a person or two?" she said in exasperation.

Ron nodded at the mention of Christmas gifts and their family being so big. It really was difficult to buy presents for so many people sometimes. Shrugging a bit, he flipped another page in his magazine.

"I've gotten most of my gifts... just have a few of the important people left. I should get on that, shouldn't I? I haven't even attempted looking for something for Hermione. How the hell am I going to top the locket and house elves thing?"

"Uhh, yes, you should get on it," Ginny said in disbelief. "Ron! Christmas is a week, away, you really need to have a plan." She shook her head with a sigh. "It's not a question of topping, it's a question of matching sincerity. Of meaning. Which requires thought!"

Please, let Harry not be such a boy--Ginny could just picture having to drag him down Diagon Alley to ensure that he had made all of his purchases...not Ron, too.

Ron nodded, shutting the magazine on his lap and tossing it to the end of his bed. What the hell was he supposed to get Hermione? He couldn't very well get her a book anymore. This was going to take a lot of thought.

"I'll go down to Diagon Alley once school lets out. Maybe I'll spot something good or get an idea of some sort while I'm down there. But I'll think on it a bit before then. Bugger... you think one of those self-replenishing ink quills would work? She's always writing and then she wouldn't have to buy ink."

"That's a good idea," Ginny said thoughtfully, readjusting the pillows behind her again. At this point, she thought of Harry's bed as her own--in fact, she preferred it to her own bed, since it was softer. "Maybe pair it with some really nice scrolls, maybe personalized ones for when she sends out owl posts?" she suggested.

"I could definitely do that, yeah." He said considering it as a possibility and thinking of going to Flourish and Blotts the first chance he got on school holidays. Maybe he could also include a nag of some kind for her to keep them in. He didn't know yet but he'd think of something. Now he only had Harry and Ginny left. He had something for everyone else.

"You get Harry's gift then? I'm sure you're on top of this gift business. Organized and whatnot."

With an overdramatic sigh, Ginny tossed down her quill and parchment, rolling onto her stomach and stretching languidly on Harry's bed, curling her arms around a pillow and giving Ron a pained look. "No," she said mournfully. "I have so many ideas, but I can't pick a sodding one. Either they sound like too much or too little, I can't decide!"

"Harry's gonna like whatever you give him, Gin. If you gave him a smelly pair of socks he'd wear 'em everyday. Don't worry about it so much, yeah?" He was trying his best to be reassuring and really, he should be listening to his own advice but Ron had never really been that wise.

"Just don't give him a gift like on his last birthday that I had to walk in and see, yeah? Warn me ahead of time before you give him that kind of present."

Ginny stared at Ron, a devilish grin spreading across her face, though her eyes suddenly grew fond and soft and wistful. That kiss--it was supposed to tell him how much she loved him, to stay with him for as long as he would be away...that would say goodbye, if he didn't return. For a moment, her smile slipped into something tender and sweet, but she felt suddenly vulnerable and naked to show to all of that, and let the wicked grin of mischief rise back up instantly.

"Well then, perhaps you should knock on my door from now on," she told him. "In fact--how about when you see my door shut, you just don't knock at all. I mean...I've got to top my previous presents, too," she told him innocently, barely holding back her snicker.

If only Ron knew what she and Harry were planning...he wasn't too far off.

"Ugh, Ginny, why?" He grimaced, covering his ears and squeezing his eyes shut. That was nothing something he wanted to hear or have planted in his brain. Why was she so evil? Honestly, it was like she was Fred and George's kid instead of their parents.

"You're evil. That's my best mate and my sister... gah, just don't." He grabbed a pillow off his bed and smothered his face with it, flopping down on the bed face down.

Ginny cackled. Actually, she did rather feel close to the twins at that moment. "What?" she asked, her eyes wide and doe-like. "Your best mate and your sister what? Snowshoeing? Scrapbooking? Sledding?" She paused, pressing a finger to her lips and then dramatically snapping her fingers. "Oi! Your best mate and your sister shagging, is that it?"

Mwah ha ha.

Ron lifted his head just for a moment to glare at her, reaching for his wand on the bedside table. "Don't make me hex you, Ginny, because I will. What did I ever to do you?" He whined before dropping his face back into the pillow and letting out a growl into the material.

Harry was good about it... he never mentioned uncomfortable things and he knew the line was drawn but his sister was pure evil and sometimes he just couldn't take it.

Ginny snorted. Like Ron could outhex her. It was well known at Hogwarts that Ginny had incredible prowess with charms and especially hexes; her bat-bogey was nearly legendary. Still, she felt like she had pretty much pushed him to his edge; next, he'd start going into convulsions if she continued on this Harry-and-Ginny-sitting-in-a-tree-S-H-A-G-G-I-N-G road.

Instead, she leaned her head back down on the pillow and glared at him. "What did you ever do to me? Weren't you the one who tried to owl me to Siberia after I was born?" she asked archly,

"Er no, that was Fred and George. They didn't want a girl interupting the flow of the family." He protested, turning his face on his pillow to look at her.

"I was the one who tried to create one of those huge plastic bubbles for you to live in so you wouldn't get hurt." It was true too... he'd spent a good month or so as a kid, probably around age 6 or 7 trying to build her a plastic bubble. Of course, he failed miserably.

"Didn't that almost suffocate me? Didn't I almost die?" she pressed, trying not to laugh. She pointed at him. "If you had your way, I'd still be in that bubble. I'd be living in a Zorb for my whole life!"

Ron shrugged. "Minor complication." He said, giving a non-chalant smile and then flipping over to flop down on his back on his bed. He sighed, feeling tired from everything happening lately, especially exams.

"Yeah that way you'd be protected from everything and I wouldn't have to worry."

"Except for the part where I suffocate and die...or die of boredom, because no Weasley would ever be happy in a bubble," Ginny pointed out. She giggled, pressing her face against the pillow. "Even Mum--you saw her go at it with Bellatrix LeStrange. So much for Mum being the 'all boring with the simple life' type. I see where we get it from."

"Mum was brilliant! I did not expect her to do that but she was pretty sodding great." He remembered how shocked he was to hear that language coming from his Mum's mouth and then the curse flying from her wand but he was glad she did it.

"You'd find your way out of the bubble eventually."

Ginny's face took on that softness again: Mum had done it to save her.

She laughed, shaking her head to break out of her revelry. "I would have used this thing...this brand new thing that I had--it's called magic," she teased, tossing a pillow at Ron.

Ron caught the pillow and smiled, sitting up in his spot and holding it on his lap. "See? It would have all worked out." He shrugged a bit, running a hand through his haor and suddenly missing those few years when it was just him and Ginny at home.

Ginny rolled her eyes and grabbed her wand, summoning the pillow back to her and then resolutely putting it back behind her head. "Oh, sure, you just keep justifying it. Don't make me mention the S-word again," she threatened, smoothing her hand down the bedspread and giving Ron a wicked smile.

"Oi, haven't you tortured me enough?" He groaned, having yet another mental image jump into his mind. She really was pure evil.

"Hey," he said suddenly, "what did you get Hermione? So I don't copy or whatever."

"No, no I haven't," Ginny answered with a serene smile.

She exhaled hard. "One of two things: either a new bed and toys for Crookshanks or set of lotions that smell like spring flowers. But I would get that from the same place that I bought Fleur's gift, and I feel that that lowers Hermione a bit," she said, sticking out her tongue.

"Yeah, sure, Gin. you're never through torturing, are you?" He shook his head and knew he would be subjected to this torture for the rest of his life since Harry seemed intent on marrying his sister at some point.

Ron nodded when she talked about her gift for Hermione. He would definitely do the quill and personalized stationery thing but there had to be something he could add to it.

"No, never," Ginny replied sweetly. And to think, the torture had truly only begun. Just wait until there was a wedding night to needle him with, when kids were born...because you couldn't deny how they had been procreated...an entire lifetime of making Ron squirm. Fun!

She picked her list back up and frowned at it. "Angelina might come to Christmas Eve supper...should I get her a gift, too? Do you get your brother's girlfriend a gift? I'm not really friends with her, but...should I? She's so nice, and she puts up with Fred way too well..."

Ron considered her question about Angelina and he shrugged. "Er, I wasn't going to. I'm not exactly a fountain of money. It's up to you, really."

He didn't have enough money to get presents for every little person so he had to mae a few choices on that front.

Ginny gave Ron a mysterious smile. "Well, Demelza and I are getting down and dirty to make some homemade goodies for gifts...I can't tell you what, but...I think I'll make her a little something," she said, writing down a note next to Angelina's name.

She sighed, tossing down the scroll again and then curling up against the pillows. "You know what sounds extra good right now? A little nap," she said with a smile, breathing in the scent of Harry from the pillows and closing her eyes. "And maybe when I wake up, magically, all of my Christmas presents will be sorted out."
