Who: Susan Bones & Theodore Nott
What: Celebrating a great grade
Where: Astronomy Tower
When: Saturday night at 8
Rating: PG
Status: Incomplete

Who knew that working with Theodore Nott could result in something so fantastic? Susan Bones sure didn’t and when she first go the news that Mr. Nott would be her partner and there was no alternative she nearly cried. Working with such a hard headed Slytherin was not her idea of fun. Susan had been dreading their meetings to work on the Astronomy paper each time it was scheduled, she didn’t want to spend her time with Theodore Nott, but then who would? After spending time with him and all the bickering something good actually good actually came of it. Susan and Theodore were the proud owners of a top mark.

It was time to celebrate, and honestly she was more than surprised he had agreed to take part. They were to meet in the Astronomy tower at eight that evening, and knowing that Theodore hated to be kept waiting Susan aimed to be fifteen minutes early, she called it Nott Time. This way she would never have to anger him by keeping him waiting, she had really learnt from all the meetings they took part in.

Susan was carefully climbing the stairs, making sure to keep her footing because she didn’t want to drop the food. In her bag there was some fruit and chocolate dip. She also had some cookies, but the most important thing was in her hand an amazing triple chocolate cake. Susan had not baked it but the house elves had but it smelt amazing and more than anything she wanted to eat it right now but no that had to wait for Theodore.

Into the Astronomy tower she went, placing the cake on the table and pulled the rest of the food from her bag. She pulled out a blanket and put it on the floor and placed all the food on it before sitting down. Now to play the waiting game, but Susan didn’t mind.

"Yes." Theodore said slowly, an eyebrow raising at the utter shock reflected on her tone. "Does the concept seem too odd to you?"

"Not insult you? I doubt I can give a promise so grave." Theodore said and paused to look at her, a glint of amusement in his eyes, to show that he was merely joshing. Theodore Nott making jokes. Who knew? Taking his plate in hand, he cut himself a piece and raised the chocolate cake in his mouth. He chewed silently for a moment, allowing the moist cake melt on his tongue, before nodding his approval. "It's sensational." he licked his lips once. "My compliments extend to whoever made this cake. Delicious." he said, eating another small piece, his eyes casted on the plate before him.

"I'm staying in the Castle." Theo said simply, adapting a tone that suggested his reasons were his own, his lips now set in a hard line. He didn't exactly wish to elaborate on the fact that after his father's death, he merely found no reason to go home. It was not exactly something he was comfortable talking to anyone with. "And yourself?" A sip from his champagne and he was once again looking at her expectantly.

“Somewhat odd I suppose,” she said softly as she cut a piece of cake again. “I just don’t know anyone with a vineyard as their backyard,” she shrugged her shoulders and pulled the chocolate cake from the fork. It tasted amazing and Susan swore it was getting better with each bite. She would have to thank the house elves for this one.

When his tone and look gave of the impression of a joke she raised her eyebrow. Was he actually joking? Was that even possible? Man had things actually been like this for the project it would have been a lot better, but she would never admit this out loud of course because she was sure it would ruin the mood. Ruining this did not seem like a good idea because Susan was enjoying getting along with Theodore for once.

“It is delicious,” she said as she took another bite of her food. She placed her plate down again and picked up her glass again. She took another sip and enjoyed the flavours as they mixed in her mouth. It was interesting, she had never tried champagne before and now she was question how she had not.

“Oh you are staying here?” She stopped herself from inviting him to her place because that was not exactly the relationship they had. “I am going home, spending time with mum and dad and my last remaining relatives.” Susan didn’t like to dwell on the people lost in battle. “I am really looking forward to that actually.”

"It's not in our backyard, but I suppose it might as well be." Theodore said, picking at his plate, pushing the pieces of chocolate cake around the surface with his fork. "It's a family business. I have to constantly visit during the summer to review progress reports and such..." he trailed off, looking at her. Perhaps he needn't elaborate, he thought; she would probably not find any interest in the topic. And it wasn't as if she asked anyway. Taking the bottle in his hand, he refilled his half-empty glass.

"It is, yes." He agreed, nodding. "And yes, I'm staying over the holidays." His eyebrow furrowed a fraction at this, not used to people repeating things he just said in the form of a question. It was one of the few things that causes him to inwardly flinch, but he was only too polite to call anyone out on it. "Good for you." he said distantly, not exactly sure what he should say. He never was one who liked discussing families and relatives, and now that the only person he has considered 'family' has passed away, he didn't know what other reason there was to discuss the topic. To divert his attentions, he took his glass and downed it in one swig, before refilling it. After which, he looked at her and raised the bottle in offering. "Refill?"

“Really, where is your vineyard exactly?” Susan was actually interested in this because she had never been to a vineyard or known someone who had one. She was interested in the process of making champagne as well as wine. “What do you make there? Just champagne or wine as well? Susan was genuinely interested and she hoped her interest showed, but she also didn’t want to press a matter he wished not to discuss.

“Well I hope you have fun, and some of your friends stay behind too,” Susan said as she took another sip of her glasses and it was almost done. As he spoke she definitely got the vibe that family was not a good idea. Susan had felt the same way last year and knew that if people pushed the subject she just got quieter and quieter. So it was time to change the subject all together.

“Oh yes please,” she said holding up her glass. She looked at him carefully and wondered what his family issue was, but was in no way going to push the subject. Susan scratched the back of her head as she filled the glass. She took the glass and took another sip. Not sure what to say next she picked up a strawberry she dipped it into the chocolate and took a bite. She hoped she hadn’t got any chocolate on her face as that would be embarrassing.

Her interest, to his surprise, showed in her innocent features and reflected on her tone as well. This, surprisingly, pleased him in some small way, having realized that he has never discussed such matters with anyone before. The feelings this instance afforded him were foreign, though not exactly unpleasant. "We have a few- five to be exact- but one of course is somewhere in the Champagne region in France, where I had this bottle delivered from." he paused, taking another sip. "We make wines, champagnes and non-alcoholic grape juice- also raisins and export table grapes. I'd tell you the exact locations of the others, but then I'd have to go through performing an Obliviate on you. And really, I'd rather just enjoy chocolate and champagne at the moment." Again, he was joking, the slightly upturned corners of his lips suggested so as he looked down and took a piece of chocolate cake in his mouth.

"Thank you. I'm sure my stay in the Castle won't be too horrible..." Theodore shifted in his seat a bit, placing his bag on the spot beside him from his lap. "I believe as long as I have a trunk full of sweets, I'd survive the Holidays without even stepping out once out of my dorms."

With a slight inclination of his head, he reached over and poured a generous amount of champagne in her glass, before letting the bottle rest beside him and eating his cake again. Who would have known an evening with Susan Bones wasn't such an excruciating affair after all...

Susan’s eyes went a little wide when he said five, she couldn’t even begin to comprehend having the money to open a vineyard, let alone three. Susan had hopes of opening her own business one day, a greenhouse of sorts. Still the fact that Theodore had five vineyards was sort of shocking, but cool. Susan was looking at Theodore a little concerned as he said obliviate, but as he continued on she got the drift he was joking again. “Who knew that you could joke so much,” she said with a warm tone and a smile to show she was not poking fun but enjoying it. Susan took another bite of her cake and placed the plate to the ground and went in for a strawberry to dip in chocolate.

“Well I could send you some sweets just to make sure you are fine and that you don’t have to worry about getting out of your dorm room,” she chuckled. She looked at her glass and picked it up once more taking a good size gulp from it. She was sure that at one point she would get a little tipsy from this because after all she had never had any sort of alcoholic drink. Placing her glass down carefully she smiled at him again, knowing full well he probably thought she smiled too much. Still she couldn’t help but smile because this night was turning out a lot better than she had expected it to be. Theodore was not making the air all tense, which was nice.

As she picked up her plate once more broke of another piece and took a big bite. Letting the chocolate melt on her tongue it was an extremely satisfying feeling. She looked at him carefully and chuckled a little, “So you really like my hair?” Susan didn’t know what to talk about but she was determined to fine something. “So what books do you read?”

"I don't." Theodore said simply, raising his head to look at her but did not say anything more. True enough, Theodore Nott was not a joker- Susan Bones merely caught him in an oddly pleasant mood. It was a good thing by all standards, considering not a lot have witnessed this carefree, inviting side of himself.

The girl's offer, in truth made him feel.. awkward, almost undeserving. He hardly knew her, and he was more than certain Bones knew nothing about him, still the girl was polite enough to offer him sweets for the Holidays. It was awfully kind, quite nice of the girl though inwardly, Theo was feeling rather uncomfortable. He couldn't exactly help it, after not being used to such an open display of warmth after all. Placing his plate on the spot beside him, he then plucked his glass from the floor and took a generous swig. "That's awfully, considerate of you, Bones. Thank you, but I'm sure I'll manage." he said, with a tight-lipped smile.

And her next question struck him, but he was able to recover fairly quickly. "I said it looks nice, Bones." he repeated. "And I read everything. I can't name a single category I limit myself to. Fiction, though is a personal favorite. Why do you ask?"
