Kristoff Vernard, aka Kristoff Von Doom ([info]discardedheir) wrote in [info]nextgen_ooc,

Character Name: Kristoff Vernard (aka Kristoff Von Doom)
Character journal: discardedheir
Physical description (face, build, weight): Dark hair and eyes 6'1" (6'9" in the suit), 185 lbs. (300 in the suit)
Age: 27
Abilities: Kristoff's intellectual potential rivals that of Reed Richards. In addition to his PhDs in mathematics, physics, and engineering, he also possesses invaluable scientific knowledge from the storage in his brain of many of Victor Von Doom's memories.

Consequently, Kristoff uses a suit of powered armor resembling his former guardian's. It includes repulsors, and a changing variety of weaponry.

Kristoff is extremely familiar with magical theory.

Weaknesses and flaws:
Kristoff has many of the social and emotional problem one would expect from someone raised without playmates, into whose eight-year-old brain large segments of an adult's memories were downloaded -- particularly considering that the ability to isolate the memories at all from his own identity was turned off and on a bit.
The lingering awkwardness and coldness with most strangers is palpable. Admitting mistakes and asking for help can each be a struggle.

These emotional problems in turn can lead to mechanical failures (he checks his work obsessively, but he often checks it alone) and the exhaustion of his vulnerable, baseline body.

Additionally, efforts to undo all the conditioned responses hidden in Kristoff's brain may have been quite incomplete. Seriously, 'Daddy Issues' don't even begin to cover it.

While well-versed in magical theory, Kristoff has very little knack for it in practice.

Character location/Home: New York, NY, but Latveria is always home deep down.
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Mirela Vernard (mother, deceased) Nathaniel Richards (biological father, unknown and good riddance) Reed Richards (biological half-brother, living). Franklin and Valeria Richards (biological nephew and niece, living)
Victor Von Doom (adopted father [legal relationship terminated], living)
Vincent Amorason (adopted brother, living)
Backstory:
The son of Nathaniel Richards (Kristoff did not learn his biological father's identity until well into his teens) and a Latverian gypsy healer, Kristoff saw his mother killed -- and rapidly avenged by Dr. Doom -- in the Zorba coup when he was 5 years old. Doom then adopted the boy and as long as Kristoff didn't talk too much -- at which point things could get very very scary -- was an affectionate guardian.
When Kristoff was around 8, at one of the many times Doom was presumed dead occurred, and a Doombot protocol was activated whereby Kristoff was hooked up to a machine and Doom's memories downloaded into him. Although the machine was unplugged somewhere during the conveying of Doom's late 20s, Kristoff nevertheless ruled Latveria for some time as an 8-year-old boy in padded armor, passing for Doom even to himself.
Upon his return soon after, Doom used a pre-programmed triggerword to separate the memories from Kristoff's sense of self...at which point Kristoff apologized for the 'impersonation' and continued, through various adventures, including more time abandoned and dealing alone with the FF, to be essentially loyal to Doom.
At the age of 15, however, Kristoff was fully involved when Doom and the FF entered a temporary makeshift alliance to deal with a greater threat, and stopped Doom when the ruler of Latveria was going to violate his personal code of honor by betraying and killing the FF. Doom disowned him, making a particular point of the fact that he had a better potential heir now in his natural son, Vincent. Kristoff, who resumed the use of his mother's name since he had no right to the Von Doom name, spent the next three years working with the FF and pursuing research and inventions, some of which he patented to provide his own future financial security. When Vincent ran away from home, 18-year-old Kristoff took his brother in and was his primary guardian.
