John Ketch
Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: [info]terrykun
Email: tj_mccarron@yahoo.com
AIM (if you have one): GoggleBoy83
Character Name: John Michael Ketch
Character LJ (if applicable):

Physical description (face, build, weight): http://www.animevice.com/ash/18-16698/images/
Age: 24

PB: Scans of Ash, from The Animatrix - Detective Story, for now.

Abilities: "Sin Sight" - eye contact with an individual reveals all the sins they have committed in their life (see below). Limited ability to channel hellfire into bullets, heightened by being used in tandom with firearms that have 'history'. Both the age of the firearm, what it was used for, and who used it, contribute to the 'history' of the firearm.
Office is equipped with technomantic arrays he uses to assist in investigations; carries a cellphone that can disrupt other communications.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, law minor. Certified in computer forensics.
Has moderate skill in fighting with his eyes shut or covered. (See details on Sin Sight below)
Weaknesses and flaws: With the exception of his Sin Sight, John's powers are sporadic at best. Experimenting with his ability to channel hellfire has only about a 1:10 success ratio. He also understands very little of the technomantic equipment passed on to him by his mother, save for how to keep most of it operational (most of the time). He also tends to operate as a loner, and when forced into working with others, has difficulty accepting others' plans.
John's Sin Sight is his most powerful talent, but also his most difficult to manage. He cannot turn it off, and it works immediately. As soon as he makes direct contact with an individual, he sees all their sins, through a jumbled mix of their perspective and third person, mixed with hellfire and at times distorted. The mental impact of the point of contact can at times be disorienting, leaving him shaken.
This forces him to impair his vision at all times, whether with dark glasses or low-brimmed hats. This puts him at a distinct disadvantage at night and in poorly lit areas.

Character location/Home: Lives in and works out of his office/apartment in Chinatown.
Alignment: "Professional first, hero second."; Frequently works with the Avengers when not on cases
Relatives: Daniel Ketch (father), Mary Lebow (mother), various ancestral Spirits of Vengeance

Backstory: John grew up with both of his parents dealing with the recoil of the lifestyles their respective supernatural abilities had brought to them, and they did their best to give him a normal upbringing. Aside from occasionally having to whip out the old enchanted chain or some technomantic imps, they succeeded. At age six however, John started having blackouts, refusing to explain why. After having him examined by Stephen Strange and Jennifer Kale, John's 'sin sight' was revealed. He had been keeping it a secret from his parents, due to seeing how much they seemed to want to live peacefully.

A forged medical slip for a light sensitivity and plenty of sunglasses helped him avoid eye contact as he got older. He gradually began discovering his ability to channel hellfire, however sporadically, as well. For his part, John was able to live a fairly normal life, while still garnering a respect and understanding for the supernatural. As he got older, becoming an afficionado of film noir, he considered work as a detective, largely relating to taking on cases that the police would dismiss as being impossible, or crazed ramblings from an individual. His parents encouraged this, and he pursued the appropriate college courses in forensics and running his own business. His father's contacts in the hero community also helped him learn about the criminal mind-set, and more supernatural elements.

John has had his agency running for about two years now, opening it shortly after graduation.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Some character or NPC needs help solving a theft of an object (or individual) with supernatural powers.

What are you planning to do with this character?: I'd like to see his investigative skills be put to use for a variety of clients, maybe get chased by some supernatural types, and pal around with the other magical or street level heroes.
