Application Post
So, you want to apply to [info]marvel_nextgen? Great!

A few things first.

Alternate Universe and Time displaced kids are welcome. As are totally original characters. Not every mutant or Avenger is going to have parents that were mutants or Avengers. So feel free to use your imagination!

While we gladly accept applications for X-Men and Avengers, we encourage applications for Eternals, Defenders, Inhumans, Asgardians, and other characters off the beaten path.

We also welcome Canon kids. IE Franklin Richards, Luna Maximoff and older versions of any super kid. Like say, Power Pack, Valeria Richards, Kevin Masterson, Ahura Boltagon and the like. Also adult versions of any Canon Teenagers are welcome. As are canon characters and villains in their adult incarnations. (Ie: Julian Keller, Kate Bishop, Tommy Shepherd, Billy Kaplan, Nico Minoru...)

We're taking advantage of the wonderful sliding timeline policy of Marvel, so if your character's birth date/age doesn't quite work out, it can easily be modified.

Please give us at least 24 hours to look at your application. We will email you when the app is approved. Once it's accepted, you can jump right in. If we have any problems or questions with any applications we'll contact you for clarification.

In some situations a sample with another player may be required.

The game focuses on the next generation of heroes and the kids are the ones out being the superheroes. The adults for the most part are starting to retire and passing the torch to the kids, so if you are looking to play an adult, be advised that in this game they are mostly support roles and plot devices.

The process:
The first step is to fill out an application.(Please check with the team admin to see if there is room on the team you want to join)
Your application will be reviewed by the mods.
In the case that you are applying for a character on a team, the application will be reviewed by the team members.
If your character is related to another character in the game, the relatives will also get to review the app.
A mod will notify you if it has been accepted, declined or if more information is needed.
The mods may ask you to clarify certain things (concept, powers, purpose) in your app. This is nothing personal, it is just the mods and team members trying to better understand the app.

Some basic rules:

1. If you are apping a sibling/parent of a character in the game, the player(s) of those characters get approval/veto rights on the app. We require you to discuss the character idea with the other players before apping the character you want to play. If you don't know who is playing a certain character please ask a mod. The list of characters and their relatives is here

2. If you are apping a cousin or other distant relative to a character/characters already in game, the player(s) of the character gets to review the app and provide feedback.

If you can't contact a player, feel free to contact the mods and we'll answer any questions you have!

3. Please do not give names, gender or ages to siblings of canon-pairing characters. This is to allow greater flexibility for people interested in picking up a sibling or parent. A vague reference like "Character X has three other siblings." is fine.

It is okay to give names, gender and ages to siblings of characters who have non-canon parents.

4. Apping Characters just to "hook up with someone" - Please do it somewhere else. This is a game for people who are interested in more than just hooking their character up with another character. While it is natural for characters to start dating and otherwise participate in physical relationships, it should not be the main purpose of the character and it is not the main focus of the game.

We accept applications for heroes, villains, parents and other adults.

We will accept applications for Original NPCs (Next generation of - Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Masters of Evil, Serpent Societly, MLF, etc) seen here.

Notes:
Xavier's is not publicly known as a place for mutants. There is an underground in place to direct mutants to Xavier's.

Avengers are listed in the phone book and publicly known. Characters can directly contact them.

Character Name: Melinda Dyars
Character LJ (if applicable): [info]shattered
Physical description (face, build, weight): Melinda is an young black woman with long hair. She has a round face that normally is smiling, though upcoming events may change this.
Age: 18
PB: Larissa Wilson
Abilities: Melinda has the ability to transform into a glass-like form; she can melt herself and reshape it into different forms. If shattered in this form, she can reform herself as she pools her body back together. She has independent control over each piece of her body.
Weaknesses and flaws: Melinda is about to undergo severe mental trauma, which will deeply affect her. In her human form, she has no particular resistance to injury.
Character location/Home: After introduction, she will move to Xavier's school.
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Initially, she'll be a villain, but this won't last long.
Relatives (living/dead?): Her mother Clarissa and her father Anton, who live in London. She has an older brother Michael who is going to school in Aberystwyth University, in Wales.
Backstory: Melinda has grown up in a pretty standard upper-middle-class neighborhood in London. She's had the typical fights with her parents over curfews, music, and so on. She realized she was a mutant several years ago, but has kept it secret, even from her parents -- she wants to live a "normal" life.
How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: With a plot that will destroy her life and allow her to start a new life.
What are you planning to do with this character? I plan to explore some of the themes of the X-Men with her as she rediscovers her life.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: I'd like to see her redeem herself after some events ruin her.

Sample post:

Melinda sighs as she glances at her phone. Mum again. She silences the ringer as she turns to her mates.

"I'll call her back later," she smirks. "I just didn't hear it ring."

Her friends snicker. "Melinda, you're so rotten," one says.

"What do you think she wants?" another asks.

Melinda shrugs. "Probably wants me to come home early," she sighs. "What I don't hear can't hurt me." She rolls her eyes again. "She probably wants to bug me about college again, too." She takes a sip of her drink. "I swear, she doesn't want to give me any time to consider what I want to do since graduating. She wants to know what I'm doing in the fall."

"Tell me about it," a friend tells her. "My mum isn't happy at all that I don't want to go to college. Just tell her!"

"I don't know," Melinda shrugs. "School's not out of the question. I just... want some time to think, you know?"

Her friends nod sympathetically, and Melinda takes another sip of her drink before her friends turn their attention to another topic.

She doesn't notice the man watching them carefully in the corner of the bar. She doesn't notice him follow her out of the bar.

Eventually, Melinda decides it's time to head home. She walks along the road alongside her best friend Kate.

"He liked you," Kate smiles, leaning up against her. "He was cute, too."

"Maybe," Melinda replies, remembering the cute young man that had purchased her last drink. "But he..." Her thought is interrupted by her phone ringing again. She shakes her head. It's 1 AM, and her mom is certain to be calling again, wondering where she is. With a sigh, she moves to answer the phone, figuring that she may as well let her mom know she's on her way home.

As she reaches for her phone, there's a flash of light, and Kate just... disintegrates before her eyes. She stares, uncomprehending, as the man who had been following her unseen stepped out in front of her, his hands still steaming from where it launched the lethal energy blast.

"Melinda," the man says, "come along. I have use for you."

As his features melt into a pale white face with a red diamond shape upon his forehead, Melinda feels her will start to fade away, and her phone's ringing seems more and more distant...

Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Kate
Character Name: Melanie Hall
Character LJ (if applicable):
Physical description (face, build, weight):
Slightly built, lavender skin, dark purplish hair
Age: 18
PB: (If using one.)
Abilities: Like her father, Mel can break down her physical structure and merge with an object she's touching in a 'non-substantial state'. Like her mother, she can influence minds.

Essentially, Mel melds into a room, a cave, an area of ground, or a vehicle and becomes a sort of genius loci pervading the place, influencing both the physical and mental/emotional environment. Windows can open and shut, light switches rise and fall, and people within the room become emotionally erratic or suggestible in the fashion of many pheromone powers.

Weaknesses and flaws: Unlike her father, Mel cannot use her powers to instantly transport herself from one side of a mountain to another, or travel through rain. Her abilities are a slower, stabler variety and, like her mother often did, she leaves a sign, some subtle -- and often carefully hidden -- but present bit of purple somewhere in the area she is possessing.

Mel's influence on the emotional states in the room is affected by the stability of her own emotions, and physical damage to the melded environment causes her pain. Hence a broken window could cause enough surprised pain to suffuse the room instead of the attitudes Mel /wanted/ to be cultivating.

Character location/Home: Canada, specifically the base of
Alpha Flight
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Good Girl Who Does As She's Told
Relatives (living/dead?): Kara Killgrave and Simon Hall.
Backstory: Mel is the daughter of phase-morphing, recovering cultist Simon Hall and control-pheremone-exuding, mind-melding former Alpha Flight member Kara Killgrave, who discovered they were pretty good for each other when they met at a meeting on socially responsible mutant activism. She had a fairly normal, sheltered childhood until her manifestation at 13. With help from both parents, her control over her abilities is fairly good. She occasionally uses them as a crutch in dealing with her own shyness, less in terms of consciously influencing people than for the ability to literally melt into the background.

Despite knowing how wrong these things can go, her parents agreed to allow Mel to 'make a positive contribution'. Better than holing up and waiting for the mobs to come to the door, Simon figures.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: With the Alpha Flight Trainees
What are you planning to do with this character? Illustrate the activities of a very shy and obedient mind-influencing poltergeist.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: Alpha flighty things.

When he entered the room, Simon Hall noticed the violets were far thicker on the wallpaper than they had originally been meant to be. He smiled. "Hello, Melanie," he said quietly. The whisper of shifting vents answered and Simon found himself feeling a little more content. He knew why, and that reason didn't bother him.

The recliner leaned back as he sat down, and the stereo turned itself on and Yvonne Elliman started singing.
"Thank you, schaetzchen."

Mel liked a quiet afternoon with Dad.

Character Name: Jordan Bochs/Diamant
Character LJ (if applicable):
Physical description (face, build, weight): Tall, stocky and muscular. Short, dark hair.
Age: 17
PB: (If using one.) Jody Latham
Abilities:
Warped Copycat:
Jordan was originally supposed to have powers somewhat similar to Mimic, copying the abilities of other mutants. The alteration to Jean-Marie's powers and genetic structure while he was in early development 'broke' the power. For most of his life, exposure to mutants severely taxed his weakened system. With the infusion from Lilian Crawley, his genetic structure has strengthened, and now he has something similar to his proper powers, but in a very altered state. He now copies the powers of mutants around him unconsciously, but at an /extremely/ weakened, and somewhat altered state. He cannot do so at an intentionally higher level without meeting very specific conditions. There are a number of permutations to this, and examples of how this works follow:

1. Diamond Child: The blood transfusion from a matching donor has permanently altered Jordan's genetic structure. Where Lil possesses an invulnerable bio-aura, Jordan's muscle, bone and organ tissue has become as hard and dense as diamond.
*Invulnerability: Jordan is almost completely immune to direct physical harm, much like his adoptive mother but in a different fashion. He can only be cut by substances like diamond, adamantium or Nemesis' sword. Even then, unless there is considerable super strength behind it, its rarely more than a scratch. He can be thrown around, and conceivably could have his brains rattled enough to be concussed, but in general can take an absurd amount of punishment and keep coming back for more. Heat, cold, etc. can cause him pain, but he takes little actual physical harm. He does still need to breathe, eat (in fact, he has to eat huge amounts of food regularly to keep his enhanced body in top condition), drink and sleep, and does feel some degree of pain. He also does tire, but does so at an extremely slow rate, able to continue acting some twenty times longer than a very physically fit human under similar conditions.
*Super Strength: In addition to weighing somewhere in excess of 700 pounds, Jordan's extraordinarily dense body has given him considerable super strength, in a range akin to Colossus or Ben Grimm, similarly super-dense altered beings. He can bench press just over 70 tons, an amount slowly increasing as he ages and matures.

2. Weakened Copying/Uncles: Constant exposure to Jean-Paul, who enjoys being a doting uncle, despite hiding his relationship from Jean-Marie gives a prime example of how the weakened version of his powers works. Rather than true super speed, flight, etc., Jordan has semi-permanently gained extraordinary athletic ability. He can run, jump, etc. at near peak human levels, super strength aside. He has an amazing, but still human reaction time and reflexes.
Likewise, due to long term exposure to his adoptive father, Madison Jeffries, Jordan has a knack for tinerking and machinery. Even if he hadn't shown his father's head for mechanics and electronics, he'd have picked up a good deal off this. He still has to go through the steps, cannot telekinese anything, etc., but he has an amazing talent when working with mechanical and electronic devices, and can push the boundaries of super-science within these fields, such as the ability needed to produce wonders like the Box armor.
If he were to spend several months without contact, these abilities would fade, but as he has been around these mutants very frequently for several years, it takes little contact now to maintain them, to the point they are nearly innate abilities.

3. When around other mutants, he begins to copy altered and extremely weak versions of their powers, perhaps about 5% as effective at best. Around a Namor/super Atlantean, for example, he might begin being able to hold his breath for longer periods or swim a little better. Exposure to Cyclops might lead to slightly improved nightvision and his eyes may turn red.
These abilities tend to fade almost as soon as contact ends unless he's around the mutants for an extended period of time. The longer and more constantly he's around a mutant's genetic signature, the longer the abilities tend to last, though it would take years of almost constant contact in order to make anything else a part of his regular powerset.

4. Should he come into a situation where he takes in bodily fluids from another mutant, such as blood exposure through a cut, or a very deep kiss, he can duplicate a warped version of their powers akin to roughly one-quarter of their ability. These are never exact copies - more like weaker abilities suggested by the original.
Examples might include - contact with Wolverine's blood through a cut on his arm might give him extreme empathy with predatory animals, or boost a single sense to extraordinary levels. A deep kiss with Dazzler might let him reflect sound or light based attacks back at an attacker. Such copying tends to last about an hour before the abilities fade. This is also a very difficult circumstance to come into during combat situations in particular, and not something he makes an effort to do, both because of the obvious awkwardness of the ability, and its unpredictable nature.

5. A blood transfusion /from a mutant with his blood type/, which is extremely rare, and found only among homo-superior will permanently alter his powerset in a drastic fashion, adding to the abilities he gained through this process with Lilian Crawley. If the transfusion is from any other blood type, he will reject the transfusion, probably grow rather ill, and only gain the benefits of #4. This is the only way he can truly copy new powers on a significant scale, and even among mutants, only one in every few thousand shares his blood type, and no baseline humans do.

Character Name: Marrina McKenzie (Neried)
Character LJ (if applicable): sea_shelly
Physical description (face, build, weight): Slender and short (only 5 ft 3), but with a trim swimmer's build, webbed fingers and toes, dark eyes, pointed ears, and blue hair.
Age: 18
PB: Raquel Reed
Abilities:

1) Water-breathing and aquatic adaptations. Marrina is able to breathe underwater indefinitely, see in dark depths, is a super-fast swimmer, and is several times stronger and more durable than a standard human.

2) Aquatic-animal abilities: Marrina's body contains the dna of many aquatic lfieforms and can manifest the abilities of other aquatic animals, including eel-electricity, crab-armor, angel-fish spins, octopus suckers, flying fish gliding, and others.

Weaknesses and flaws: Like most water-breathers, Marrina must occasionally submerge herself to maintain hydration and fitness. She is also susceptible to dehydration-based attacks.

Character location/Home: Newfoundland, Canada
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Marrina Smallwood (mother, deceased). Namor McKenzie (father), Dan Smallwood (adopted father)

Backstory: Marinna is a Plodex-Human/Atlantean-Human hybrid, one of several children hatched from the eggs laid by Marrina, then wife of Namor the Sub-Mariner. Though Marrina herself was killed and the eggs thought lost, the did indeed survive. Several mutated into dangerous aquatic lifeforms, but one, smaller than the rest, drifted away, to be found, by all people, Dan Smallwood, sometime-boyfriend of and grandson of her mother's adopted parents. He and his wife raised her like their own and showed little surprise when she developed aquatic abilities.

Though the government left her alone for the time being, they were always aware of her, recruiting her into the Alpha Flight training program when she turned eighteen. Though she is aware of her father's identity, she has not made contact with him or been to Atlantis. He is unaware of her existence.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: As part of the new Alpha Flight program.
What are you planning to do with this character? Have some Canadian fun, eh?
What do you want to see happen with this character?: I would like to see her meet Namor at some point, maybe some Atlantis-based stuff.

Sample post:

She let the water take her cares away. Here, in the cool depths, the rest of the world didn't seem to matter much. The government wanted her to join its new Alpha Flight program. Her father--and she thought of him as her father, for he had raised her from an infant--disliked the idea, believing it would lead to her death the same way it had her mother. But she wanted to. She needed to do something with her life, something to give her purpose.

And she had another reason, too. Perhaps through Alpha Flight, she could meet her biological father, Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner. She didn't know what she wanted from her, didn't know at all... But she wanted to meet him, to know him in some way. She wasn't human, she wasn't Plodex (whatever that meant), she wasn't Atlantean...

She wanted somewhere to belong.

Character Name: Benjamin Richard Parker, also known as Benjy
Character LJ: Getting to that.
Physical description: Standing at 5'9, 150 pounds. Benjamin is no small guy but he's certainly not the tallest. The spider-man gifts passed down to him have kept him in a tip top muscular shape once he hit puberty. Accompanied by blondish | brown hair and blue eyes.

Being someone who is laid back and relaxed, he tends to wear clothes that are casual and sometimes fit in with the skater life-style. It wouldn't be unusual to see him in a pair of vans, a black band t-shirt with a white long sleeve underneath it, slight baggy jeans with a chain, and tobogons.
Age: 19.
PB: Zac Efron | Non-symbiote Black Spider-Man suit. (If that's alright)
Abilities: Because of his interaction with the Carnage Symbiote as an infant, his powers developed earlier and it was speculated that he could be just as powerful as Spider-Man or even more. Hitting puberty brought out the powers in him even more, and they're still evolving overtime.

Organic Spider-webs: These come from the palms and finger tips, they are very strong, able to hold up to three tons. Ben's spiderwebs can be used for web-swinging, the compounds in his webs can also turn into a substance so strong that it can be used for shields for himself and others if spun right.

Ability to stick to solid surfaces
Spider-sense
Semi-night Vision
Super-human strength, stamina, speed, durability, reflexes
Heals twice as twice as a normal human, but no where near as fast as his father. Broken bones and limbs would still take a few months to be in shape again. He heals three times as fast if he goes into a twenty four hour sleeping period, but he would need to periodically do this to heal from major injuries.

Weaknesses and flaws: Unlike his father, Ben doesn't have a sense of responsibility. He's likely to forget about his homework, take out the trash or something vitality important such as delivering a message.

He can be excessively stubborn, he generally won't take someone's advice or listen until it's too late.

Ben also doesn't feel he's cut out for the Spider-Man gig but has tried on a few occasions to do the superhero stuff. It's usually ended with the Daily Bugle having a field-day with his mishaps and mess ups.

Ben has a slight loss of hearing due to high frequency sonics as an infant, it was mostly fixed with the help family friend, Normie Osbourne, but he occasionally has problems.

Character Location/Home: Manhattan, New York | Still lives with Peter and Mary Jane.
Alignment: Neutral Hero. He doesn't like when bad guys wreck havoc as much as the next person, but he's not for getting involved unless he has to.

Relatives:
Peter Parker [Father, Alive]
Mary Jane Parker [Mother, Alive]
May Parker [Sister, Alive]

Benjamin Richard Parker
[info]ovarkill
2009-08-16 03:35 am UTC (link)
Background: Benjamin Parker was born after his mother's difficult labor and pregnancy, because of his father's altered DNA due to the radioactive spider-bite. Mary Jane's health at risk, her obstetrician advised her to consider an abortion. However, remembering that she faced similar risks when pregnant with her daughter May, Mary Jane decided to proceed with the pregnancy.

During his birth his father was fighting the villains The Femme Fatals, and to his family's relief he was a perfectly healthy baby. Benjamin was named after his Great Uncle Ben parker, and his second name is in honor of his grandfather. During his toddler years and early childhood he was shown to develop his powers early, spinning his arm at super speed and balancing toy trucks on his fingers.

In a more dangerous time he was once possessed by a miniature version of the Carnage Symbiote, saved by his father, his parents noted that his ears were bleeding and realized Ben had lost his hearing, likely because his hearing was too underdeveloped to withstand the sonic waves. While doctors tried to determine whether his hearing was temporary or permanent, Peter blamed himself for ever letting it happen.

Thankfully, Ben was still a happy child. But when Mary Jane discovered Ben crawling on the ceiling she feared due to his exposure to the Symbiote his abilities may have somehow been preempted way too early -- this possibly making him more powerful than his father who received the bite in his youth.

Sometime after, a family friend of the Osbourne Family agreed to fund an operation to restore Benjamin's hearing loss. The operation was a success, restoring most but not all of his hearing. When Benjamin was going through surgery, said family friend examined his body and found that he really was already developing powers from the start, but because of his exposure to the symbiote; it accelerated the process. Ben learned to make full webs at one point and almost killed Mary Jane, but saved her none the less. Even Peter began to fear that Benjamin would be more powerful than him or his elder sister, who still had yet to develop any spidey powers.

Ben was a happy child but turned into a whether stubborn pre-teen and teenager, using his 'hidden' abilities to boss weaker kids around to impress those he wanted hang around with.

Benjamin grew aggressive and sometimes went too far in his endeavors, but it won him points with the popular kids. This however didn't impress his family, when they found out what he
was doing in school during his early teens, both Peter and Mary Jane sat down to talk with about the horrid details of his father's bullied childhood for being a nerd. Benjamin admitted when he first arrived in middle-school people expected him to have the vast intelligence that his father and sister possessed, when they learned he didn't they didn't hide their disappointment very well and he became disappointed with himself.

Being ignored at school didn't sit well with him, he didn't like the sports they had so he didn't feel he would gain friends there and at best he was an average B|C student, so in turn he began doing what he saw other kids of high status doing and it 'worked', a little too well sadly.

Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Gavin!
Email: You've got it!
AIM (if you have one): crispengray
Character Name: Emily McAndrews / Mystic
Character LJ (if applicable): This one!
Physical description (face, build, weight): Half-First Nations, half-Scottish Canadian, Emily has a strong resemblance to her mother, Elizabeth Twoyoungmen. Slender, with a strong narrow jawline and long, dark, straight hair.
Age: 16
PB: Q'Orianka Kilcher
Abilities: Emily has the Relic of Enchantment (formerly the Coronet of Enchantment, see below), a powerful First Nations artifact that is capable of incredible mystical feats, including, but not limited to, astral projection, exorcism, matter manipulation, the ability to see prophetic visions, telepathy, teleportation over vast distances, animating the undead, generating wind blasts and lightning, summoning air spirits, calling forth spirit animals, creating magical shields of light, and generating blasts of magical energy. This talisman also makes her part of the land itself, tying her to the spirit world. The artifact has basically given her powers, properly developed, that can rival even Dr. Strange or Merlin.
Weaknesses and flaws: She is a 16-year-old girl with a difficult family relationship, with all the neurosis that go with that. Her body is no more durable than any other human's; taken by surprise, she can be taken out of a fight very easily. Lastly, she has limited understanding or control of the relic, and at this point, most of her powers are used by instinct.
Character location/Home: She's based out of Ontario, with the rest of the new Alpha Flight.
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Mostly a hero, but when you've got that much power in a troubled 16-year-old girl, she's going to make some villain-like mistakes from time to time.
Relatives (living/dead?): Her grandfather, Michael Twoyoungmen, aka Shaman. Her mother and father, Elizabeth and Thomas McAndrews; his mother was once the superhero Talisman. Her younger brother Kevin, who is 12.
Backstory: Elizabeth Twoyoungmen hated being Talisman, and hated her father and her heritage for sticking her with this fate. She reached into the powers of the Talisman, hoping to destroy the Coronet of Enchantment, despite her father warning that one cannot hide from destiny -- one may only put it off. Elizabeth did not listen to her father, and did it anyway. The Coronet vanished, apparently destroyed.
She met Thomas McAndrews, a nice, "normal" man, and married him. She bore him two children: first, Emily, then later, Kevin. Emily did not get along with her mother, particularly as she was a very rebellious teenager. She insisted on investigating the culture of her mother's family, despite her mother's anger with this investigation. After being punished for being caught with a Oijia board with friends, she began investigating the occult as well.
The morning Emily turned 16, Emily found a bracelet in her bedroom on her bedside table. She stepped out of the room, carrying it, and thanking her mother for the gift -- it was clearly of First Nation design, and she didn't think her mother would have approved. She quickly discovered that it had not been left there by her mother; in fact, Elizabeth recognized it as a design similar to the Coronet of Enchantment, as if the item had returned in a new form. Elizabeth threw it out in anger, but Emily found it back on her bedside table later that day. In frustration and anger with her mother, Emily put it on... and discovered that she now had incredible power, but could never take the bracelet off again.
After a fight with her mother, she ran away from home. She was soon found by Department H, who recruited her into the new Alpha Flight.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Alongside the other Alpha Flighters!
What are you planning to do with this character? Mostly allow her to be a backgroundish character who shows up with her team when she can. Occasional plots with her, if the mood strikes, may be fun, too.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: She has room to evolve... it might be nice to see her accept her powers better than her mother ever did, and grow into a powerful mystic on par with Dr. Strange. But this would take a long time.

Sample post:

Emily has to calm herself as she dials the number. At least these people in Department H gave her privacy to make this call.

The four rings seem to last for an eternity before someone picks up.

"Hello?"

"Kevin? ...it's Emily."

There's a long, pregnant pause.

"Are you okay?" her brother finally asks.

"Yeah. I'm okay. Is... is dad home?"

"No. He's... out looking for you."

"Oh."

Another pause.

"Mom's home, though."

"I... maybe I can try back later, and..."

Her mother's voice can be heard over the line. "Is that Emily? Give me the phone, Kevin!" There's a pause, and Elizabeth can be heard clearly. "Emily?"

"...yeah, Mom. It's me."

"Oh god. Thank god you're okay. You're okay, right?"

"Yeah, Mom. I'm okay."

"Look, baby, just come home, okay? We can talk about this, and we can see if we can get that... that thing off your arm, and..."

"Mom?" Emily interrupts. "I wanted to tell you something. While I was out here... I saved a couple people with this... bracelet. I stopped a couple of carjackers and saved somebody's life."

There's a long pause. "Did... did anyone see you, honey?"

"Yes, Mom. That's what I wanted to talk to you about. See, the police took me in after I helped that guy, and... these men from the government came to talk to me..."

"Is that where you are now? Are you with Department H?!"

"Yeah. They offered me a job, Mom, and..."

"I'm hanging up now. Come home right now, and we'll figure something out. But don't trust Department H."

"Mom, I'm doing it! I've already chosen a superhero name and everything."

"Come home, and we'll talk about it." Her mother's voice sounds on the verge of breaking, but with anger or grief, Emily can't tell. "Just... come home, baby."

"No, Mom. Look, I've gotta go. I'll call you later, okay?"

"Come home!" Elizabeth McAndrews calls out one last time, her voice on the verge of panic. But Emily hangs up quickly, and spends a long time staring at the phone.

Physical description (face, build, weight): Kevin is a medium sized house cat with short white hair and bright green eyes. If he ever regains human form he will be tall, on the thin side, with white blond hair and green eyes.
Age: 17
PB: (If using one.) Just a kitty

Abilities: He has all the abilities of a house cat. In addition to that he can speak. He is also aware of when magic is being used and has an almost supernatural luck about him that is keeping him alive. He has the ability to perform minor magical tricks that he learned and is great at finding information. He won't age a day until the curse is lifted.

Weaknesses and flaws: He is a human stuck as a cat. He doesn't think like a cat. He is also very easily distracted and he also is prone to moping over being stuck as a cat. He also is limited to what a cat can do. Lacking thumbs keeps him from doing many things. Like magical rituals, opening secure doors, and other numerous things. He also is addicted to canned tuna fish and will get upset if anyone points this out.

Character location/Home: Streets of New York City
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Reluctant hero
Relatives (living/dead?): (Grandma) Caroline Peterson and Charlie Peterson
Backstory: Kevin grew up with his dear sweet grandma. He was happy if a bit constantly dogged by the pressures of pleasing his grandmother. This ended up with him following in the family tradition of protecting six rods that were meant to be used as a magical focal point in big ritual magic and learning magic to protect them.

He was a good study and eventually learned when to seek out help when some of the rods were taken. He didn't exactly become friends with Jennifer Kale but she became one of his newest teachers after their adventure in getting back the book.

Being reminded of and taught how dangerous magic could be did not prepare him for girls. Foolish ones who knew how to get him to help them.

Things went down hill. He noticed that her friends were disappearing right and left. It was puzzling and around the time that he was going to see Jennifer for advice he got attacked. During the fight against his unknown assailants he found himself for well, different. He was a cat.

Jennifer rescue him. As it turned out it was the girl who was at least partly responsible for her friends going missing. Her soul had gotten bound to a demon who had wanted the souls of her friends as well. Kevin had just been in the way and hadn't even realized what had happened to the girl. It's a deep source of guilt for him since they couldn't save her life in the end either.

Sadly the curse can not at this time be broken and Jennifer decided to introduce Kevin to another student of hers.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Kevin is going to be brought to Vincent by Jennifer Kale. This is with the thought they can help each other in their studies and Vincent can protect him from the dangers Kevin can't protect himself from.
What are you planning to do with this character? He will be a source of comedy and also snark a whole lot. He can also help out by being the tiniest spy evar. He will also challenge Vincent in every way he can as a sort of friendly rival.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: I want to use him for humor and random adventures. I don't plan on him getting to be human again full time but part time in the future is okay.

Character Name: Summer Morgan
Character LJ (if applicable): rabbitfromahat
Physical description (face, build, weight): 5'6", 125 lbs, blonde hair, brown eyes, athletic build
Age: 23
PB: Jennifer Ellison
Abilities: Low level telepathy and illusion projection. She can produce incredibly realistic illusions and uses her low-level telepathy to make them even more believable in her magic show. Make fire "feel" hot, ice "feel" cold, etc. She also uses this combination to perform seances in her magic show, pulling images of the deceased from her clients minds and projecting the images as manifestations.

She also knows the stock magic trick set. Card tricks, juggling, knife throwing, etc.
Weaknesses and flaws: She's had no formal training with her powers. Everything she knows, she learned by trial and error. Her illusions are fairly effortless, but she must use a lot of energy and concentration to use her telepathy to make them believable (mostly the tactile ones that should have heat, scent, etc.) unless it is an illusion/telepathy combination she's had a lot of practice with like the ones she uses in her act. She's also a little bit reckless.
Character location/Home: Travels with a magic show. Is staying in New York for the time being.
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Neutral, but mostly inclined to good.
Relatives (living/dead?): Heather Morgan (mother, living), Donald Morgan (father, living), Christopher Sharpe (partner, living)
Backstory: The Morgans never thought, when they welcomed their little girl into the world, that she would ever be anything beyond the special and unique that every parents thought of their new baby. Summer experienced a relatively normal childhood growing up in the chilly winters of Northern Michigan.

But, as she got older, strange things began happening around their little girl. They began seeing things that simply couldn't be there. Fires would appear and blaze hot only to vanish seconds later, leaving no trace of heat behind. Animals charged through their apartment living room, paws and hooves thundering to shake the floor, before disappearing. Summer was always nearby looking just a little too self-satisfied. Not a "bad child", Summer still managed to be a handful for her parents over the years. Her practical joking nature often led her to trouble.

Just days after graduating high school (not without incident), Summer attended a carnival at the local fairgrounds. It was every bit a run of the mill traveling show. Most of the attendees showed varying degrees of boredom. Until the magic show. The magician, a man named Christopher Sharpe schilling poor imitations of Copperfield like tricks, went through all of the usual motions but found the results much changed that day. When he pulled his white rabbit out of a top hat, a dozen rabbits emerged and bounced all throughout the audience, into laps, over feet, under chairs... until they all paused at once and vanished into puffs of multicolored smoke. "Real" fire shot from the tip of his wand and rain clouds burst over the stage to put it out and when the clouds vanished, the stage was dry again.

Baffled but delighted, he caught Summer's eye as she sat laughing in the front row. She was clearly enjoying every moment of the show and not surprised in the least at what she was seeing. He knew, in that moment, that she was his ticket out of the run down show and into something bigger.

They left her home town that weekend and set out on the road with their own show. At first, he took the stage alone with Summer in the wings casting the illusions to delight the audience. Eventually, she talked her way onto the stage herself. Her pretty face and flare for drama brought in even more money than his initial show idea had and so Christopher retired to run the business aspect of the show while Summer performed under the stage name Morgaine.

After five years of non-stop travel and magic tricks, Summer has begun to think that, perhaps there might be more to life. She also thinks that Christopher might not be so quick to let his meal ticket go.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Her traveling show will make a stop in the city.
What are you planning to do with this character? What do you want to see happen with this character?: I'd like to see her learn to develop her powers more effectively and possibly get involved with the X-Men side of things. Probably in some kind of back-up manner.
Sample post:

The house was packed and the crowd was enthralled. Summer was working her magic on them in every sense of the word. She'd charmed them with her jokes and pretty smile, and she'd wowed them with her illusions. There was not a bored face in the bunch as she went through her routine.

She was on a roll.

"For my final trick, I'll need a volunteer from the audience." She beamed a dazzling smile as she looked over the various hands raised. Someone sturdy looking and just a touch skeptical... that college boy with the sports jersey in the back. He'd do nicely.

She pointed and he surged to his feet, paused a moment to slap high fives with the similarly jersey'd boys at his table, and then made his way to the stage while his compatriots hooted and hollered their encouragement. Summer stood with a bland smile plastered on her face as she watched him approach. So easy.

"What's your name, friend?" She gestured wide to the audience to indicate he should speak loudly so the room could hear. And speak loud he did. Brash and mildly intoxicated, the young man roared that his name was Freddie and then howled a cheer for his football team.

So very easy.

"Well, ladies and gentlemen, I'm afraid Freddie will be absent from your next ball game." She gave the audience an exaggerated, pouty, sad face as she stepped over to her magical equipment and picked up a length of opaque, black silk about the size of a bed sheet. She held it up in front of her face, veil-like, for a moment before lowering it to show her 1,000 watt smile had returned.

"Because, you see, I'm about to set him on fire."

The audience roared and cheered while Freddie at least had the good sense to look a little unsure. She smiled at him as she stood beside him holding the silk in two hands. After a moment, a drum roll was played over the speakers and the crowd quieted.

"The old ones are the best ones, folks. Say it with me now: Abracadabra!" She and the crowd chanted the word together three times and on the third repetition, she swung the cloth with matador flair, covering Freddie from head to toe. A second later, she whipped it off again and Freddie appeared covered head to toe this time in crackling flames. He didn't have time to draw a panicked breath before Summer slung the cloth back over him, shouted the magic word once more, and then removed the cloth again just as quickly. The flames were gone.

The crowd that had been stunned into silence by the flames erupted into cheers as Freddie blinked in astonishment at his undamaged form. Summer took a bow and then blinked at Freddie in mock consternation.

"Oops!" She pointed and drew the audience's attention to Freddie's jersey, now sporting the opposing team's logo. Laughter rolled over the two of them on the stage as she shook her head. "Poor Freddie. Let me get that for you."

She swung the cloth once more, smirking just slightly when Freddie flinched, and then whipped it off again. The removal motion was so wide that the cloth moved from covering him to covering her. In the span of a breath, the cloth fell to a puddle on the floor. Freddie's shirt was returned to its original state and Summer was gone.

Character Name: Giovanna Maxime Bennet

Physical description: 5'6", 132 lbs, dark hair
Age: 17
PB: Jessica Szohr

Abilities: Buildup of psionic and bioelectric energy, providing low-level telepathic sensitivity and minor energy charges. Teleportation through conversion of her body and attendant items/up to one other person into energy.

Giovanna has a Damascus steel arming-sword and knows how to use it. She speaks English, French, Italian, and Latin.

Weaknesses and flaws: Incorporating anything else more than her own clothes into the energy transformation is exhausting. Telepathy is only basic communication and defenses -- nothing close to Father's level, in any direction.

Whether through genetic predispositions of upbringing and very young telepathic contact, Giovanna has inherited major psychological problems from her father. She is uncomfortable with outsiders, incapable of much critical thinking in terms of the Genoshan government, and has a terrible temper.

Character location/Home: Genosha and the consulate thereof.

Alignment (villain, hero etc): Patriot
Relatives (living/dead?): Paris Bennet (Father, living). Carmella Unuscione (Mother, Living.)
Backstory: As the daughter of two of Magneto's most fanatical followers, Giovanna Bennet moved around quite a bit in her earliest years, as the Cause dictated, before things finally settled in Genosha. When the family of Magneto's natural daughter Lorna Dane Summers settled there as well, Giovanna soon became frequent study-partners and eventually good friends with Lorna's son.

The two will soon be coming to the Genoshan consulate in New York.

Physical description (face, build, weight):
normal form: 5'11, 179 lbs, brown hair, moderately fit teenager.
charged form: 6'7, 302 lbs, brown hair, heavily muscled
Age: 17
PB: (If using one.): Shane Kippel/Randy Orton
Abilities: Andrew is an energy converter. He can transform any energy in the electromagnetic spectrum, and most forms of radiation into increased size, strength, durability and healing. He cannot use these abilities without physically transforming into his charged form.
How strong and durable, and how quickly he can heal is dependent on the charge he can absorb. Sticking his finger in a light socket will let him transform, but only power him up to capable of lifting a few tons and being largely immune to a human-strength punch. His upper limit is unknown, based solely on the power of the energy he can absorb.
Likewise, he can only maintain his powers for so long unless he has consistent exposure to the energy source. The closer to his limits he's operating, the faster he runs through his charge. He can operate at full capacity without further charging for about half an hour, or roughly at half strength for about two hours. If he's not exerting himself, most charges can last up to half a day. He cannot change back to normal without exhausting his charge.
As a side effect, he is immune to all forms of electromagnetic energy and radiation. He does not have to absorb these things if struck, but always can when directly exposed. If caught by surprise by exposure to these types of energy, he will transform automatically.

Weaknesses and flaws:
1. He has no active use powers at all in his normal form
2. He cannot transform without exposure to electromagnetic energy or radiation.
3. His strength, durability, rate of regeneration, etc. are based upon the intensity of energy he has access to, and charges will run out in time.

Character location/Home: Genosha
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Idealist, mostly hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Alex Summers (father), Lorna Dane-Summers (mother), Scott Summers (uncle), Jean Grey (aunt), Magneto (grandfather), Christopher Summers (grandfather), Cable (cousin), Wanda Maximoff (aunt), Vision (uncle), Pietro Maximoff (uncle), Haley Blanding (foster Aunt), Andrew Blanding (foster grandfather), Mrs. Blanding (foster grandmother), Rachel Summers (cousin)

Backstory: Andrew Summers is the son of Alex Summers, aka Havok, and Lorna Dane, aka Polaris. Not wanting their son exposed to the general chaos of the X-Men's lives, they applied for and received the necessary status to homeschool and take him with them on geological surveys, throwing themselves into their shared scientific work entirely. By the time he was five, he'd seen five continents, spoke four languages and pidgin bits and pieces of eight more, and had a really nifty rock collection.
While he was aware of the X-Men, Magneto and the rest, he was raised largely separate from it all, and never had to deal with a lot of the mutant craze in his early life, and was mostly devoted to his dream of becoming a paleontologist.
Everything changed nine years ago when the Marauders came looking for them, and Malice took his mother over again. Havok attempted to contact the X-Men to find them in trouble of their own. Independently, Magneto and a handful of his acolytes managed to rescue Lorna. She was ultimately convinced to aid in his taking Genosha away from the forces who'd taken it over violently, and Alex, ultimately, agreed to follow for the protection of his wife, and out of gratitude.
Since then, Alex and Lorna have been living as Genoshan unofficial royalty and ambassadors, trying to spend as much time as they can helping fix Genosha's damaged landscape.
Andrew himself has turned to studying diplomacy and languages, working hard on trying to become an able unofficial crown prince and a good diplomat for Genosha.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?:
Appealing to the UN during the registration push to try and get international condemnation for the potential violations of human rights, and ending up entangled in Kate's plot ideas.

What are you planning to do with this character?
Beyond the first plot, not sure yet. Going to see where that goes.

What do you want to see happen with this character?:
Pairing with Kate's character to get into some trouble, and find a nice idealistic, troubled niche in between Magneto and Xavier's stances - very much like his dad.

NextGen Application (Canon and OC)

Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Dylan

Character Name: Argo
Character LJ (if applicable): son_of_hercules
Physical description (face, build, weight): Argo is tall, nearly 6 ft 6 in, and powerfully built. he has slightly less than shoulder length dark hair that curls ever so slightly.
Age: 25
PB: Hakan Emden
Abilities: Argo possesses incredible physical strength (at least class 30, possibly higher, though less than his father) and durability, owing to Olympian heritage. Unlike the Asgardian godlings, Argo possesses true immortality and will cease to physically age within a few years time.

From his father, Argo has received extensive training in hand to hand combat, as well as Greek-style wrestling.

Argo also plays the lute and is a capable singer.

In combat, he typically wears Olympian forged armor, which is impervious to most mortal weapons. He prefers unarmed combat, but occasionally makes use of a golden mace.

Weaknesses and flaws: Argo is quite boastful and arrogant, much as Hercules himself was in his youth. Though powerful, he typically does not think his actions through well enough.

Character location/Home: LA/Defenders base
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Hercules (father), Hebe (mother), Zeus (Grandfather), Ares (uncle), assorted other Olympian gods (relatives)

Backstory: For a time, Hercules reconciled with his estranged wife, Hebe, though that did not last. But it was long enough to give them a child, who was named Argo. Though the lure of wine, women, adventure, and song frequently lured Hercules back to Earth, he was also determined not to be the father that Zeus was to him, and spent more and more of his time in Olympus, raising his son.

Fate, however, blessed Hercules with a son very much like he himself was in his younger days. Arrogant and cocksure, full of himself and his own power.

He tempered this some as he grew, but he remained restless, with few challenges in Olympus and longed for the adventures of the mortal world his father had often spoken of.

When it was learned that four of the children of Thor, his occasional childhood playmates and sparring partners, had been sent to Earth, he pleaded with his father and Zeus for permission to join them. This boon was eventually granted, with Hercules promising to speak to Tony Stark about it "sooner or later."

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Argo will probably show up on the Defenders doorstep (or possibly get into some kind of fight that attracts their attention on his way there)

What are you planning to do with this character?: Argo's not a character type I venture into too often, but he's very much like Hercules. Boastful and proud, eager to fight (less so for the honor of combat than the sheer joy of fighting), he's very much everything my other god character, Asleif, isn't. So I'd like to play around with that.

What do you want to see happen with this character?: Eventually, Argo will temper his arrogance and rashness some, but it will be a long process. And he can be someone so out there in behavior that he can even annoy the other godlings.

Sample post:

So! This was the City of Angels, here in the realm of the mortals! Truly a place of wonder!

So lost in thought was Argo, the Almighty Son of Hercules, that he did not notice the mortal conveyance coming at him as he crossed the street. It skidded to a stop--not that it could have harmed his godly form--and the driver climbed out, well muscled, for a mortal, fist shaking in anger. "Hey! What do you think you're doing? Why don't you watch where you're going? I oughta clock you one good!"

Argo regarded him with a boisterous laugh. "Thou art welcome to try, friend! I wouldst love to share the Gift of Battle with thee!"

"What're you? Some kind of nut?"

"Nay! I art Argo, the Almighty! Son of Hercules! Here to drink thine mortal beer, seduce thine mortal women, and battle thine mortal super-villains!"

He considered something. "Though not, perhaps, in that order."

Character LJ: got_the_touch
Physical description (face, build, weight): Scrappy, lean without really any muscle or fat, in his awkward semi-gangly stage, but very active and keeps in shape. Messy dirty blonde hair, blue eyes. More often than not found with grease stains and band-aids scattered over his exposed arms and legs.
Age: 15, rapidly approaching 16
PB: (If using one.) Hunter Parrish
Abilities: Telekinesis of moderate strength, tactile telekineses of a higher level. However, Mason is only able to affect 'processed' materials, as he defines it. Blown or forged glass, reforged or refined metals, plastics, and similar materials fall under his ability to control. Natural substances, such as uncarved wood or stone
Weaknesses and flaws: Mason has only normal mechanical and engineering knowledge of someone his age with his interests, limiting his ability to create constructs as complex as his father's. With practice, he can communicate to a limited extent with inanimate constructs such as door locks and simple motor vehicles. This use of his power is unreliable at present however.
Mason is an avid dirtbike rider and has a corresponding level of mechanical proficiency from maintaining his own bike.
Cannot verbally speak to females one on one or in very small groups.
Character location/Home: Ontario, Canada
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero in training
Relatives: Madison Jeffries (father, living), Lillian Crawley Jeffries (mother, living), Jordan Bochs (adopted brother, living)

Backstory: Born to Madison Jeffries and Lillian Crawley, Mason had a generally normal upbringing, Lillian having been very firm (finally) about Madison settling down and distancing himself from the super-heroing. He didn't have his father's smarts, but he was still drawn to mechanics, helped along in no small part by the arrival of his adoptive brother, Jordan Bochs. Mason was very shy at first, but common ground, namely dirtbikes and life-endangering sports, helped the boys connect. Quickly coming to adore his new older brother, Mason bonded well with Jordan.

Adolesence brought two surprises for Mason. First, his mutation. At first it was thought to be the same as his father's, but further use of it revealed the differentiation in what materials he could manipulate. How much they had been affected by mankind seemed to be the main factor. The other surprise, although it came on a few years earlier, was an apparently inability to talk to women one on one. Mason adapted to the powers through training, and the mutism through carrying a dry-erase board with him at all times.

Upon Jordan's acceptance into the Alpha Flight program, Mason applied as well, resolving to enter as soon as he was old enough.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Visits Jordan at the Alpha Flight compound
What are you planning to do with this character? Spend time with his brother, meet the other Alpha Flight members, maybe a trip to Westchester to meet the X-Men or get help with his powers if necessary

Mason, after extensive deliberation (taking all of thirty-eight seconds), left the area he was supposed to be waiting for his brother in, ambling down the hall after something that smelled absolutely delicious. Upon arriving there, he found the kitchen empty, but the delicious smell was coming from a noticeably purple oven. He didn't think much of it, government and super-hero types tended to be eccentric. He was surprised the place wasn't more unusually decorated as it is.

"Ah-hah!" He proclaimed upon entering, as some sniffing lead him towards the oven in question. He wrung his palms greedily, before reaching to open the door just to take a little peek. Maybe they were done enough to grab one or two. It didn't budge, and he was just about to tug harder when the room filled with ephemeral whispers.

'They need another minute to sit!'

Mason jumped back abruptly, a chair flying over to him as he brandished it defensively. "Who's there?"

Melanie didn't unmelt yet, simply continuing to whisper. 'I'm Mel. And I made the meringues, and I know they need another minute. Sorry.'

Mason furrowed his brow, replying hesitantly. "...are you a ghost? I didn't ask Jordie if the place was haunted, so he probably wouldn't have thought to mention it."

Melanie unmelted from the cabinet near the oven. "No." The purple girl looked at him.

Mason promptly let out a cough, putting the chair down and backing up slightly, stuttering. "Y... y..." He flushed, then pulled off his backpack, delving into it before retrieving a small dry-erase board, scribbling intently, before holding it up to her. //Hello. I'm Mason Jeffries. Jordie's brother.//

"Melanie Hall. Are you okay? I thought face-toface would be better..... is it the purple? It's just a mutation..."

Mason's face showed his alarm, and he shook his head fervently, wiping the board clean and writing again. //No! It's just because you're a girl!// He pointed to the board, then realized how that must appear. He smacked his forehead and wiped it out, trying to clarify. //I can't talk to pretty girls for some reason. I just can't.//

Mel turned a deeper purple and melted back into the cabinets and appliances. ~So... Jordan Bochs' brother?~ appeared in purple writing on the cabinets.

Mason looked around, slightly bewildered by her power. //Yes.// He held up the board in all directions, as more writing appeared.

~I can still read. But can you talk now?~

Mason exhaled sharply, drawing himself up, trying to get something out. Nothing. He curled up his face and tried again. Same result, and he shook his head, sighing.

The oven opened on its own, and the adjacent drawer with pot-holders opened as well. More whispering. 'Now you can have a meringue.'

Mason smiled and scribbled a hasty 'Thank you!' before fetching pot-holders, licking his lips as he took out the baking tray and set it gingerly on the countertop. He munched away at one, before scribbling another message. //These are excellent. If you're around, being a superhero is going to be awesome. Like... Leafs winning the Cup awesome.//

Mel turned burgundy and said "Thank you."

Abilities: Superhuman strength and durability
Weaknesses and flaws: Though she has gained control on this over the years, if Molly over exerts herself while using her powers, she'll pass out.
Character location/Home: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Gene and Alice Hayes (parents, deceased)
Backstory: Molly is the daughter of Gene and Alice Hayes, mutants who used their mental abilities for the evil orgainzation, the Pride. For years, Molly and her parents' friends' children all thought they met annually once a year for no apparent reason...until one day Alex Wilder showed them the secret passage that he had discovered in his house's game room. Curious to see what their parents were up to Alex, Chase Stein, Nico Minoru, Gert Yorkes, Karolina Dean, and Molly decided to sneak a peek at their parents...only to find them dressed in costumes. At first, the group thought that their parents were superheroes, just like the Avengers, but were proved horribly wrong, when the group of them (minus Molly who had been taken back to the game room with Gert, being deemed to young to see what was going on), witnessed their parents murder an innocent young girl. Outraged, the teens decided to take down their parents. At first, Molly was kept out of it, being eleven and the youngest of the group, only when Karolina pointed out that she was in danger being left with her parents did the rest of the group decide to include Molly. During a standoff at Molly's house with their parents, Molly discovered that like her parents, she was also a mutant, though she had psychical powers as opposed to her parents' mental abilities. Shortly after, the group (dubbing themselves the Runaways), took down their parents, and lost one of their own, Alex, as it turned out that he had really been loyal to their parents the entire time.

Molly remained with the Runaways (the group decided to call themselves) for the remainder of her preteen years. As she was technically a middle-school dropout, Nico saw it her responsibilty to teach Molly everything that she would missing at school, encouraging all the other Runaways to pitch in. Molly found a family in the Runaways, though she'd miss her parents from time to time.

Recently, Molly was approached by Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men with an invitation to join his team and study Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Hesitant to leave her teammates at first, Molly eventually accepted, as her fellow Runaways agreed that it would be best for her in the long run.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Shortly after joining the X-Men.
What are you planning to do with this character?: Getting her footing in the X-Men, finding her way in the superhero community.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: Being with the Runaways for a large portion of her life, Molly is a bit out of her comfort zone, being around people that she has no connection with and has never worked with before. It'll be interesting to see how she forges relationships and tries to find her own dynamic on the team.

Sample post:

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Looking at the gates, Molly Hayes knew one thing off the top of her head.

This place was freaking huge.

"Of course it's huge Mol," she mutters under her breath, pulling her bags up the front door like they weigh nothing. Which, to her, they don't. "There's like, a billion and one other people here." Well...maybe not that many people.

A nervous feeling sat in the pit of her stomach. And Molly was not one to get nervous. The Runaways would be the first people to tell anybody that. She punched the Punisher in the gut when she was eleven years old for Pete's sake!

And yet, here she was, palms sweating, heart pounding, stomach twisting into knots. What if no one liked her? What if she didn't fit in? What if she screwed up royally on a mission? Good Lord, what if Wolverine remembered her as that girl from all those years ago that told him he was a big, stinky, jerk? Man, Chase would never let her live that down...

Chase. Molly couldn't help but feel a little pang in her heart when she thought of Chase. And the rest of the Runaways. Was she really doing the right thing, leaving her family in California behind to join the X-Men? Then again, Nico had been the one that told her this would be a good idea...

She could turn around. Tell Professor Xavier thanks but no thanks. Go straight back to Los Angles and her family.

Molly shook her head. No. That wasn't an option. She was offered a spot on the X-Men, and she was going to wear that uniform with pride.

Swallowing her fears (and praying that she didn't hurl all over whoever opened the door), Molly rang the bell.

Character Name: Valeria "Val" Richards
Character LJ (if applicable): [info]invisigirl
Physical description (face, build, weight): Valeria is short. She's not really all that thrilled about the fact that she just barely made 5'4". Her build in general is boyish, and she's grown accustomed to the fact that she'll probably never have her mother's curves. Valeria has blue-green eyes, and blonde hair that she's currently streaked with pink (her parents weren't too thrilled with her when she did). Valeria has always been a fan of "color", and isn't afraid to wear bolder colors and try fun new looks.
Age: 16
PB: Dakota Fanning
Abilities: Valeria posses the powers to generate force fields. More recently, Valeria has discovered that she can also turn invisible, like her mother. She also has near superhuman intelligence. Valeria is unsure if she inherited any more of her mother's abilities, still being young.
Weaknesses and flaws: If she uses her force fields for too long, Valeria will get a migraine. Also, she doesn't have full control over her invisibility yet, never knowing how long she'll stay invisible. She also does not know whether or not she can make other people and things invisible with her.
Character location/Home: New York, spends a large quantity of her time at the Baxter Building
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero, not on the Fantastic Four, but she acts as their resident "brain", helping them out whenever they need her.
Relatives (living/dead?): Reed Richards || Mr. Fantastic (father, living), Sue Storm || Invisible Woman (mother, living), Franklin Richards (brother, living), Johnny Storm || Human Torch (uncle, living), Kristoff Venard (uncle, living), Nathaniel Richards (grandfather), Ben Grimm || The Thing ("uncle")

Backstory: Valeria almost didn't come into existence. Conceived in the negative zone, when Valeria approached term she began to emit bursts of radiation that threatened both her and her mother. Despite her father and other's best efforts, Valeria appeared to be stillborn. Her brother, Franklin, devastated by the sister that he could have had, used his psionic powers to send her into another reality (which she has no memory of, and after her brother's powers were depleted during a battle to save reality, Valeria reverted back to an unborn child in Sue's womb).

Sue came to term, but once again she was effected by bursts of radiation from the unborn Valeria. With her father, Reed, being captured by Hidden Ones, Valeria's uncle Johnny Storm sought out the help of longtime enemy of the Fantastic Four, Victor Von Doom. Doom used a combination of magic and science to deliver Valeria, and was allowed to name her, choosing Valeria after his childhood love, but that was far from what Doom had from his mind, as when he held the baby girl in his arms, Doom wove an enchantment turning Valeria into his familiar, and sacrificing her namesake for greater magical power. Doom then used to Valeria to taunt his enemies, and with the power that she gave him, was easily able to overcome the Fantastic Four when they first attempted to free Valeria. With the assistance of Doctor Strange, Reed Richards was eventually able to retrieve Valeria and Franklin (who had been banished to Hell by Doom), and banish Doom himself to Hell. It is unknown whether or not Doom still has some of his connection to Valeria or not.

Life returned to normal for Valeria after that. Well...as normal it could get for a little girl who's parents and everyone close to her were superheroes. Valeria basically grew up with in the Baxter Building, following her parent's exploits as part of the Fantastic Four, and getting to know some of the "big names" in the superhero community (she nearly wet herself when she met Captain America for the first time). Valeria was what one would call a "kid genius", playing chess with her father at age four. Reed, seeing his daughter's potential, home-schooled her, and Valeria discovered that she shared her father's love for chemistry and psychics...though she did have a tendency to blow things up...

At age ten, Valeria first tapped in her powers to develop force fields, when her brother threw a water-balloon at her one day. Reed then tested her for any other superpowers, finding none, but as Valeria was still young, the possibility for more to develop remained open.

Valeria continued to stay at the Baxter Building through her parent's and the original Fantastic Four's retirement, feeling a close connection to the new Fantastic Four, Vincent Amorason in particular, whom she was extremely close with, and saw as a younger brother. It was also a chance for to get to know her "uncle" Kristoff Vernard, who she always felt a little awkward around. Though she is not a member of the Fantastic Four, Valeria has her own lab/office at the Baxter Building, and often acts as the resident "brain" for the team. Though she hasn't been around there often, as she's determined to graduate high school (or home-school, in her case), to pursue studying to be a physicist. How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Coming back to the Baxter Building.
What are you planning to do with this character?: I'd like to work out the dynamic that Valeria has with the current Fantastic Four. Though I'm perfect content with her acting as the team's "brain", I'd like to maybe have her try out her hand at heroing as her powers further develop.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: I'd like to intergrate her into the superhero community, eventually. As all of the Fantastic Four slots are full, she'll probably go for another team, or she might just do her own thing. For now though, she's perfectly content in her lab.

Character Name: Rachel Summers (Marvel Girl)
Character LJ (if applicable): marvel_girl
Physical description (face, build, weight): Rachel possesses very red hair, freckles, and an overall average build
Age: 16
PB: (If using one.) Molly Quinn
Abilities: Telekinesis (outwardly directed, up to 1000 lbs lifting. Working on being able to use it to fly). Developing telepathy.
Weaknesses and flaws: Overexerting telekinetic abilities can cause nose bleeds and/or possible brain damage
Character location/Home: X-Mansion
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Scott Summers (father), Jean Grey (mother), Alex Summers (uncle), Lorna Dane (Aunt), Christopher Summers (grandfather), Adam-X (possible Uncle). Nathan Summers (half-brother), Rachel Summers (alternate world counterpart), Andrew Summers (cousin), many others.

Backstory: Scott and Jean temporarily retired from the X-Men in order to start a family and were blessed with a girl they decided to name, naturally enough, Rachel. When circumstances called them back to duty, they accepted the call and brought Rachel with them. She grew up with the biggest and best extended family a girl could ever ask for, including meeting "herself" a few times. She's pretty much been a fixture of the mansion; it's home.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Rachel will have always been there, just... conveniently off camera until now.
What are you planning to do with this character? Fill up my other X-character slot, mostly (fading Jess into the background/hiatusing), but also play around with the Summers side of the family. Not to mention the playing a more "in-universe" version of Rachel.

What do you want to see happen with this character?: Just stay involved in X-plots, possibly start seeding her for a leadership role in the x-kids. Plenty of fun with Cait and Corey.

Sample post:

"Careful... careful..." Rachel muttered to herself, directing the movement of the block with her hand. Since it was being doing telekinetically, she didn't technically need to, but she found pointing to be very useful when using mind over matter. Carefully, she set the block down on the top of the others in the tower...

Which promptly collapsed.

She bit back a profanity, but still flung the blocks across the room with a wave of mental energy.

Character Name: Leech
Character LJ (if applicable):
Physical description: Green. Hairless. 5'10", 170 lbs.
Age: 26
PB: (If using one.) I'll have to look into the gentleman's name.

Abilities: Leech's energy-suppression powers negate most mutant abilities, superabilites originating from extraterrestrial technology, and can occasionally interfere with electrical systems.
Leech's powers are capable of simply extending in a ten-foot radius around him (or further if someone chose to use harmful technology on him) but his control over the years leads him to find it best to keep it contained and, when intending to use it, make a physical connection --functional even through clothing.

Weaknesses and flaws:

Leech has, as an adult, worked through the learning disability (brought on by improper socialization in his troubled early development) that gave him difficulty with language throughout his childhood and adolescence, but his grammatical difficulties occasionally resurface when distressed.

Other aspects of of modern education came very hard for him, leaving him still a little slow on matters of general knowledge.

He's slightly co-dependent.

Character location/Home: Returning to Xavier's.
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Nice Guy.
Relatives (living/dead?): Annalee (foster mother, deceased.) Annalee's Kids Mk II (foster sisters, deceased)

Backstory: Abandoned as a toddler, Leech survived his earliest years mostly being fed by the Morlocks, who found him mildly relevant as a fellow freak and useful as a plot device tactical asset, but without any real care until he was eventually adopted by the bereaved Morlock projective-empath Annalee. Some years later, in his very earliest adolescence, Annalee and the rest of her adopted brood were slaughtered with the majority of the Morlocks.
Leech escaped and clung like hell to became very close with his best friend Artie Maddicks, through various custodies and educational facilities.
Leech, as he had to technically be the 'talker' of the pair, concentrated most of his education on overcoming his learning disability and grasping all the basics. In most recent years, they have gotten their own apartment as Arthur Maddicks finished graduate school. Leech worked as a garbage collector to pay what bills Art's assistantship didn't, and generally provided the support structure for getting Art through his work.

But everyone needs some time back home eventually.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Visiting the institute long-term.
What are you planning to do with this character? take things as they come; provide an element of weirdness for various points in plots and character interaction.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: Well, if someone would care to have artie 'come home', too, I sure wouldn't say no.

Back at the Institute again. Art was still at their place; he had business to take care of, but could handle it alone for now.

And there were some things Leech had to do.

He smiled a little at the person who came to the gate. It was someone he knew. They would understand. So he just held up the rough-cut daisies bundled in his right hand. "For my mother and sisters. I can use the tunnels-door?"

Physical description (face, build, weight): Lyta is tall, at 5'8, with a lean, slender, build. She has long, wavy blond hair that falls past her shoulders, blue eyes, and round face with soft cheekbones. Lyta's most prominent feature, though, has to be the pair of angel wings growing out of her back. She hates concealing them, though she will wear a special brace fashioned to keep them bound to her back when she's out in public. Lyta's fashioned most of her clothes to accommodate her wings.
Age: 21
PB: Evan Rachel Wood
Abilities: Lyta's wings, not only to they grant her the ability to fly, but her bone structure is hollowed, like that of a bird's. Lyta possesses telepathic abilities, which gives her the ability to read minds and project her thoughts into the minds of others, among other abilities that she herself has yet to tap into. Lyta also possesses peak human strength, being able to lift up to about five-hundred pounds, superhuman stamina, durability, and a regenerative healing factor. She was also trained in the marital arts and sword-fighting by her mother.
Weaknesses and flaws: If she suffers any critical injuries, such as getting shot directly to an organ, Lyta will not heal as quickly. If her wings are weighted down by too much water, Lyta will be unable fly, or crash to the ground while in flight.
Character location/Home: Xavier's
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero, X-Men
Relatives (living/dead?): Warren Worthington III/Angel (father, living), Betsy Braddock/Psylocke (mother, living).
Backstory: Lyta is the only child of Warren Worthington and Betsy Braddock, the X-Men known as Angel and Psylock. Lyta was the result of a brief reunion that her parents had when they were both the X-Men. When Betsy first found out that she was pregnant, Warren wanted to marry her. Betsy, turned down his offer, as the couple had split at the time. However, as Warren wanted to be involved in his daughter's life, the two shared jointed custody of their daughter, and Lyta was shuttled back and forth between the two, though she spent a large portion of her time with her mother. It was her father that taught her how to fly, and her mother that trained in both her telepathic abilities and the marital arts. When she turned fourteen, Xavier offered Lyta an invitation to attend Xavier's School for the Gifted. Lyta accepted, wanting to hone her abilities, but also wanting to get a chance to have a closer look at the career path that her parents chose. She bonded with the children of other X-Men, as well as new students around her age. When she turned eighteen, Lyta left the mansion to pursue a degree in business management. Recently, having successfully earned her degree, she is coming back to the mansion to do what she loves the most, fighting for the greater good side by side with the X-Men.
How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Coming back to Xavier's.
What are you planning to do with this character?: I'm planning to have her try and act as a older sister/leader figure to the younger X-Men. Lyta tends to be very aloof and closed-off at times, and I'd like to maybe have her "get over" that aspect of her personality. She still has some growing up to do.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: I'd like to see her take a bit of a leadership role in certain situations.

RP Sample:
Lyta soared over the skies of New York City.

This was what she loved. Freedom. Flying. She hated wearing that restraining brace used to conceal her wings. She wished that she didn't have to wear it all the time. She didn't see why she had to "fit in". She never had. As her mother told her, she was born to stand out.

Closing her eyes, Lyta flew across the skyline, taking in the heat coming off from the sunset. Blocking out the thoughts coming down from the city below her. Funny thing about her telepathy, it didn't have an "off" switch sometimes.

Sighing, Lyta touched down on the rooftop of a building, letting the last few rays of sunlight dance on her face.

America uniform is very similar to that of his father's Captain America uniform.
Age: 20
Birthday: November 12
PB: Matt Lanter
Abilities: Enhanced reflexes, speed, strength, senses, durabbility, trained in martial arts, shield fighting, acrobatics, marksmanship, and weapons proficiency.
Weaknesses and flaws: He's just a guy. He is by no means, all powerful. He can be hit.
Character location/Home: Avengers Mansion, New York City
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Steven Rogers/Captain America (father), Sharon Carter/Agent 13 (mother), James Romanov-Rogers (dimensionally challenged half-brother)
Backstory: Charlie is the son of Steven Rogers (Captain America) and Sharon Carter (Agent 13). Though his parents shared joint-custody of Charlie growing up, Charlie spent the majority of his time with his father, following his adventures with the Avengers. His childhood was far from normal. He grew up with the children of other superheroes. He attended a private school for children of S.H.I.E.L.D agents. Although, for Charlie, he thought that this was perfectly normal. When he was eight, Charlie was test for any superhuman abilities through various tests run by his mother's colleagues at S.H.I.E.L.D. It was then discovered that Charlie inherited something very similar to his father's abilities when he was induced with the Super Solider Serum. Sharon then began to train her son in the hand-to-hand combat and weapons training. Steven, who had been told about his son's abilities, began training him to hone them, and also in the martial arts, acrobatics, and shield fighting.

When he was sixteen, Charlie joined the Young Avengers, under the codename Lt. America, with a costume similar to his father's. Charlie had also fashioned a shield of his own, the dimensions and design of it being extremely close to Captain America's. He's since discovered that he has a knack for leadership, though he tends to let his duties as an Avenger get in the way of his studies at New York University and, much to his mother's dismay, has no intention of joining S.H.I.E.L.D in the future. Charlie currently divides his time between school, the Avengers, and driving his dimensionally challenged half-brother, James, up the wall.
How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: As a member of the Avengers. It's in the kid's blood.
What are you planning to do with this character?: He's got a lot of potential. He's got the ability to be a great leader, and I love for him to take a really active role in that respect.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: I'm looking forward to him working out his relationships with his teammates, among seeing how he adjusts to maybe NOT being in charge of things all the time.

Yawning, Charlie looked over at the clock on his desk. 12:30 A.M. He sighed and looked at his laptop. He hadn't even made a dent in his paper. Stupid Roman civilization.

He felt his eyes drooping...and then hurt the loud blare of the alarm echoing throughout the base. Grinning, he sprinted to his closet, where his Lt. America uniform was stashed away, in a quick, easy-to-reach spot. With in seconds, he's sprinting towards the bridge, shield in hand, ready to go.

Just as a note before-hand, I already talked to Allie about the character in relation to hers and stuff.

Player: Paul
E-mail: paulbel@ymail.com
AIM: killerzetsu

Character Name: Gabriel
Character LJ:
Physical Description: Gabriel stands at six feet and one inch tall and weighs in at approximately one hundred and thirty five pounds (due to his genetic make-up leaving his bones hollow). His body sports an athletic build (pun intended) with virtually no body fat. Gabriel has blue eyes and very dark brown hair. He commonly wears a casual t-shirt and jeans combination. He is rarely seen wearing socks or shoes, to which he has a slight phobia.
Age: Twenty Four
Birthday: July 1
PB: Kelly Blatz
Abilities: Angelic wings with a sixteen foot span from wingtip to wingtip, which allow flight and flight capabilities equivalent to that of his father. The genetic make-up of his body are also altered for aerial adaptation, enhanced durability, and enhanced stamina. His body even regenerates from injury faster than normal humans, although it may take hours to days to months depending on the severity of the injury. His mother's genetics give Gabriel greatly enhanced senses (sight, smell, touch, etc).
Weaknesses and Flaws: If Gabriel's heightened senses became overloaded, he could become crippled to the point of immobility. His greatest weakness, in terms of his senses, is that he is very sensitive to pain. Gabriel is also a man of flight. His wings are not indestructible, and can be cut, ripped, torn, etc. And while they do heal over time, Gabriel would be at a loss for what to do (and at a breaking point in his mentality) should his wings ever be removed or injured tot he point where he cannot use them.
Character Location/Home: In Transit
Alignment: Neutral
Relatives: Warren Worthington III (Father), Callisto (Mother), Lyta Braddock-Worthington (Half-Sister)
Background: Gabriel was conceived by Callisto when she and the Morlocks kidnapped Angel. During that time, she brainwashed him into a sexual relationship (and after recovering from being brainwashed, Angel’s memory of the incident was forgotten). Callisto gave birth to Gabriel on Muir Island, off the coast of Scotland, after the Morlocks were hunted down by Mister Sinister. Callisto sent Gabriel off to live with an associate of Moira MacTaggert, and he was raised by a woman named Francesca in Scotland.

Gabriel was always aware of his mother, and in later years he left home and flew across the sea to seek her out. He made these escapades often throughout his early life, but never once tracked her down. After he turned eighteen, Gabriel gave up on finding his mother and settled down again. After he turned nineteen Gabriel met a human girl by the name of Alyssa Morton, with whom he fell madly in love. The two became a couple, and eventually married after dating for three years. Alyssa bore Gabriel a son, named Connor, and then was tragically killed in a proclaimed accident. Gabriel entered a state of depression, and turned over custody of Conner to Francesca before leaving for the United States to search for his mother again.

Introducing the Character: Gabriel is going to be introduced during the beginning of his new search for Callisto, unaware of who the rest of his family is, and that he will meet them shortly upon arrival.
Future Plans: I want him to build on a storyline of tragedy and inner growth. I do plan on having him meet the X-Men, but I also know for a fact that I am going to make a story arc with his son being kidnapped, and the events there will unfold when I later think of them. Pretty much, I plan to do anything to keep Gabriel continually growing.
What's Gonna Happen, Dawg? I think I answered that in the last question. But here it goes: I just want to see his story unfold as I, or even other people, come up with new things to add to the fun of RPing.

Sample Post: Gabriel ran his fingertips along the surface of the great blue sea as he let the winds momentarily carry him. His angelic wings were spread wide, and the warmth of the sun beat against his exposed backside. “Ahaha,” Gabriel laughed; his head was cocked back and his eyes were closed. He was enjoying the moments before arriving. Then he opened his eyes and through them spotted the great green woman.

“Going up~” he playfully said to himself. His wings beat in tandem, and he angled himself to follow the wind and the guidance of his wings. Gabriel rose higher into the sky until he finally flew over Lady Liberty. At her peak, he stopped in mid-air and maintained that position. With his great vision, Gabriel viewed the island beneath him, and the traffic of immigrants. He momentarily pitied them and their lack of freedom. But he had freedom; the freedom of flight.

And he used that freedom to fly into the great city before him. The search for his mother began again.

Character Name: Nicholas Salem/Ghost Rider
Character LJ (if applicable): Vicious_Cycle
Physical description (face, build, weight):
Age: 19
Birthday: October 31
PB: Alex Gaskarth
Abilities:
Nicholas/Either-form:
1. Willpower: Nicholas has an extremely strong will, built up over a difficult life time, though it is also certainly a family trait of the line of Harkness and Scratch. He has more control over the Rider than most of his previous incarnations and has mostly subdued Zarathos and overcome Mephisto's enchantments.
2. Hellfire: Even without becoming the Rider, Nicholas can manifest and control limited amounts of Hellfire, wielding it as a weapon from his pentagram-marked hand, though he usually uses it to light cigarettes.
3. Prediliction for magic: Nicholas has studied the occult, but not a lot of real magic. He has a genetic talent for it, however, and has a very easy time using most magical artifacts which are not specifically white-magic, which he cannot use. The closer a ritual or item is to black magic the more easily he can master it, but he tries to be very careful with such things. He cannot currently cast any spells or the like, but if he began to study he would find it as easy as his father and grandmother did, though it remains a dangerous path.
4. Immune to possession/psychic phenomena: Like all Ghost Rider's, Nicholas is first of all already possessed. He cannot be further possessed or controlled by other possessing entities. Similarly, like all the riders, he is virtually immune to telepathy, mind control, mental blasts and other mind-affecting psychic powers that are not specifically attuned to control over demonic entities.

Ghost Rider only:
1. Hell's Rider: Nicholas can transform any motorcycle into the Ghost Rider's bike as needed, but prefers his own, and can call either the Rider's Bike or his custom 2004 Harley Davidson FatBoy to him. The bike can travel up walls, over water, along even very thin surfaces and make impressive leaps. It also travels faster than any normal motorcycle, at least 250 mph. He can control the bike even when not riding on it, and its wheels can manifest most of the powers and effects of hellfire.
2. Chains: The Ghost Rider can manifest and somewhat control lengths of chain made of a nearly unbreakable black iron for use as a weapon, including making minor alterations to these chains such as giving them a hooked end or making the links bladed.
3. Immunities: Ghost Rider is immune to all levels of fire and heat, does not need to breathe, eat, drink or sleep, and is resistant but not immune to most other forms of physical harm. Small caliber arms do nothing to the Rider, and past manifestations have gone toe to toe with vampires, the Wrecking Crew and other similarly strong opponents and come to relatively little physical harm. He is also resistant to, but not entirely immune to magic, with limitations listed in weaknesses.
4. Super Strength: The Ghost Rider possesses limited physical strength, letting him lift about fifteen tons, a little over Spider-Man level.
5. Penance Stare: The most powerful weapon of the Riders, the Penance stare requires eye contact with another being, so it cannot usually be done casually. It forces the victim to face their own sins. The greater that being's sins, the more devastating the stare is, and can leave many people as little more than burned out husks, damned by their own past.

Weaknesses and flaws: First and foremost, through no fault or signing of his own, Nicholas' soul was promised to Mephisto as a sacrifice. While hardly a sole focus, this puts him squarely in the midst of all sorts of potential problems with Mephisto, Blackheart and other powerful evil entities.
While he has mostly overcome Zarathos, he remains vulnerable as well to various black magical spells intended to bond and control or manipulate demons and he can be bound in magical circles, summoned by people performing the proper rituals, etc.
In the presence of powerful supernatural evil, he may also be compelled to transform into the Ghost Rider, whether he wishes to or not. While he has somewhat more control over this than many rookie Ghost Riders he still cannot always control the change, especially on nights of the full moon or times of mystical importance.
He cannot become the rider or use any of his powers when on hallowed ground.
While magic resistant for the most part, white magic has especially pronounced effects on the Rider, like most demonic entities, and a skilled user who has not tainted himself with use of any black magic can banish, ward off or otherwise affect the Rider with ease.

Character location/Home: Mobile
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Kaitlyn LaVey (genetic mother, living), Nicholas Scratch (father, temporarily banished to hell), Salem's Seven/Brutacus, Gazelle, Hydron, Reptilla, Thornn, Vakuum and Vertigo (brothers and sisters, deceased and banished), Agatha Harkness (Grandmother, deceased)
Backstory: Nicholas Salem was never intended to live long. Nicholas Scratch and diabolist Kaitlyn LaVey used ritual magic along with their coupling to ensure a child born on Halloween, promised from the same day to be sacrificed to Mephisto to resurrect and empower Salem's Seven. The plot was foiled by the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange, with some help from the Avengers, after Wanda was contacted by Agatha Harkness' spirit. He was put into the foster care system after that, given the name Salem in designation of where he was taken from, but kept the name his birth mother had given to him, in honor of his father. He has never known either of his parents.
He never did well in the foster system, as a troubled and willful child, particularly when he began to report hearing vague whispers when no one was about, as well as having some difficulties in the heavily Christian biased fostering system over the pentagram shaped scar on the palm of one hand from his mother's preparations for sacrifice. While never abused, he also never had a regular home, being shuffled about all his life until he was beyond the age when most children are adopted.
Between his scar, rumors of his background, and having lots of time on his hands and an otherwise inconsistent education he became a voracious reader, taking an interest in the occult whenever he was able to get his own books. The thing that really caught his attention, however, was Kerouac. He began to dream of the day he could just go his own way, free from the foster system, various odd homes and parents and all the rest. Through hard work and study he got his GED, and when he turned 18 he went to work at whatever he could get, saving and scrimping until he could afford his own motorcycle, then set out on the road, working where he could for gas money and living day to day, but free.
Until the most recent Halloween - eventually, when Mephisto needed a new agent, he sought out a soul that technically belonged to him, roaming the Earth, and Nicholas was bonded with Zarathos. However, not having signed anything of his own will, and being a strong willed individual in the first place, Nicholas battled Zarathos into near submission, and took his power for his own. This did not sit well with Mephisto, and rather than having another rogue rider, he banished Nicholas into a hell dimension.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: The child of Darkstar is going to accidentally free Nicholas from his banishment.

Character Name: Franklin Richards
Character LJ (if applicable):
Physical description (face, build, weight): Franklin has blonde hair and blue eyes. He stands at five feet and eleven inches and weighs in at around one hundred and sixty two pounds. He’s very physically fit, and sports an athletic figure.
Age: Twenty
Birthday: November 19
PB: Ed Speeler
Abilities: Telepathy, Telekinesis, Telekinetic Flight, Energy Blasts, Telekinetic Force Fields (locked abilities: precognition, reality and molecular manipulation, pocket dimension creation, astral projection)
Weaknesses and flaws: Franklin has, in order to help live a normal life, locked away a great deal of his power. He is also highly easily infatuated with the opposite sex, which acts as an opening to his gullibility.
Character location/Home: Baxter Building
Alignment: Civilian
Relatives: Reed Richards (Father), Susan Richards (Mother), Johnny Storm (Uncle), Valeria Richards (Sister)
Back Story: Franklin is the son of Reed and Susan Richards. The cosmic energies giving Susan her powers were set to kill both Susan and the unborn Franklin. However, the rest of the Fantastic Four obtained the Cosmic Control Rod to lessen the adverse effects of the cosmic energies in Susan, and Franklin was born successfully. However, he was born a mutant.

His early life had abnormal events and kidnappings due to his premature manifestation of mutant powers. He was first kidnapped by Annihilus, and then possessed by Nicholas Scratch. After these events, Franklin’s father studied the mutant abilities in Franklin, and consequently had Franklin unconsciously create Ego-Spawn. After that issue, Reed created HUBERT, a robot designed to baby-sit Franklin and monitor his mutant tendencies. Franklin lost control of his powers soon after, and became an adult with amnesia called Avatar. He was later reminded of who he was by his mother, and reverted himself to his child self with dampers placed to limit his power. At the same time, he had restored Thing, who had shed his abnormal looks and powers, to his Thing-form. These dampers were later broken to rescue Franklin from capture.

The boy has also encountered entities such as Mephisto, and joined forces with the Power Pack when he dreamed of an attack on the family of super heroes. He has been approached by Ashema, one of the Celestials, and melded with him to save his life. It was during this time that Franklin had previously created an alternate Earth called Counter-Earth, where the deceased heroes remained alive, and heroes were transported to safety during the battle with Onslaught.

At a later point in his future, Franklin comes into contact with Valeria von Doom, who claimed to be the daughter of Susan Richards and Victor von Doom. Over a period of time, Franklin realized that she was the sister he had, by his own hand, sent far away. He restored Valeria to their mother’s womb, and she was reborn as the daughter of Reed and Susan Richards, and Franklin’s full-fledged sister. The period shortly after this consisted of Franklin becoming jealous at the loss of attention from his parents, and he inadvertently created Modulus. When his family drifted farther apart, Franklin was sent to Hell where he was later rescued. Although he was traumatized to a great degree, Franklin managed to recover through the aid of his family and friends.

He was set to become a normal kid then. Or at least, he tried to. For many years he had managed to keep himself out of the superhuman quarrels and lead a normal life, but only through the help of family and friends.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game? Through the Fantastic Four and Valeria. :]
What are you planning to do with this character? Have some fun, you know? I will delve into some issues with his powers and the like. And I want to work the angle of him trying (but failing) to maintain a normal life, which will act for personal growth.
What do you want to see happen with this character? I think I stated that above… again. Hahaha. Personal growth is the goal for what I want to see happen.

Another day in the life of a civilian had been completed. Franklin trudged into the Baxter Building after a long day of classes. He had decided that his composition class was something he did not need in his life. "Ugh!" he dropped his bag on the floor when he reached his room and sank into his bedsheets. "At least Western Civilizations was fun," he muttered to himself.

Then his imagination ran wild, and Franklin pictured himself as Alexander the Great, running with an army of devoted followers and friends through the Middle East. "Hehe," he chuckled, "I bet I could get some oil if I did that." Oh, the jokes did make him enjoy his time alone. But he then lifted himself from his bed and decided to pay his sister's diary a visit.
