Over New York, the SHIELD helicarrier had the best view of the day's festivities. The skyline lit up in bursts of color with the fireworks streaking through the sky.
Valentina watched from the bridge of the carrier. Off-duty agents dotted the flight deck. It was good to be reminded of what was at stake every day, and why they were on the job. Current Mood: optimistic

Nick Fury stood on the bridge and his attention was on a few things, one of which is the brunette standing not far from him. She had caught his attention since the day she knocked him on his ass.
Nick put a cigar in his mouth and lit it up. To hell with the no smoking regulations.
It would be fair to say she was aware of him every bit as much as he was of her. She always knew where he was when he was close by.
"Colonel," she said with a nod.
"Contessa," he said and returned the nod. "How ya like our view?"
Val looked back through the viewing wall at the bursts. "I love fireworks. Any occasion that demands them is usually a good one."
"Nothin' better than celebratin' freedom," he said. He had helped provide that freedom with sweat and blood over the years.
"I can't disagree with that." She smiled at him. "Did the cook manage to set up a grill on the flight deck to have an old fashioned cook out this year?" Not that the cook would, but it was always a nice idea.
"No, but if ya want him to, I can order it," he said as his mouth smiled around the cigar.
Val chuckled. "The flight deck crew would have heart attacks, so maybe another time."
Nick chuckled. "Speakin' of food, you eat yet?"
Nick ordered food for the both of them before leaving the bridge and by the time they reached his quarters the food was there waiting for them. He opened the door for her and stepped back to allow her to enter first. "After you."
"Thank you."
Valentina hesitated only a second before she entered his quarters. As far as she knew, he could have a different agent up here for dinner every night. Except he didn't. The helicarrier was a tiny village and people talked.
The food smelled good, but she'd been promised something. "About the view, Colonel...?"
He smiled. "I did promise ya a view," he said as he pushed a button near the door. The blinds on the far wall started to raise.
The view was good. Bursts of light and the trails from spent fireworks falling to Earth were especially lovely.
Valentina stood in rapt attention. "You weren't exaggerating, Colonel."
Nick crossed the room and stood next to her. "One o' the best views on the 'Carrier."
Her attention shifted from the fireworks to the man standing next to her, though she continued to gaze out. "Thank you for letting me see it."
"Yer welcome. Hungry? Food's gettin' cold."
He didn't see any of the fireworks. He had been watching her.
"Yes, that would be nice. Lunch was a long time ago." She turned and found him watching. "Colonel?"
"We could go down to the gym if ya want, or we could stay here. I like stayin' here," he said as he lowered his face to hers. "Yer so beautiful, Contessa."
Kissing your commanding officer was never a good idea. It was going to cost her an assignment on the helicarrier, she was sure. Even being in here might do it, so she might as well hang for the action as well as the rumor.
She met his lips for a taste of the man, the whiskey, and the sheer thrill of it.
Nick groaned when her mouth touched his. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and pull her in for a deep kiss, but he restrained himself and limited it a firm kiss.
It was not what she expected.
It was better.
A soft moan left her when she moved back the tiny bit to break the kiss. "Are you trying to seduce me, Nick?"
"Only if ya want me to," he said softly, barely above a whisper. "S'up to you, Beautiful."
She leaned in to kiss him again. "Will there be fireworks?"
Nick kissed her, this time he did wrap his arms around her and held her tightly. He could taste the wine on her lips and the feel of kissing her made him feel like he had been the one to drink it.
He smiled when the kiss broke. "There will be. Promise."
Val was a little breathless when the kiss ended. Nicholas Fury was an adventure to her senses. One night couldn't hurt? Then back to her assignment, wherever it would be tomorrow.
She gave her answer in the form of an action. Softly sucking his bottom lip between her teeth, she bit down a bit before stroking it with her tongue. Seduction was a participation activity.
