Her eyes widened in surprise, and Valentina was out on the training room floor as fast as she could to help.
"Are you all right, Colonel?" she asked, kneeling by his side on the floor.
"I'm fine," he said and started to climb to his feet. "Don't need a damn nursemaid."
His attitude made her grit her teeth. And to think a few minutes before she was admiring him!
She took hold of his arm. "You need to lie down and wait for Medical to send someone to check you out."
Nick jerked his arm away from her and the motion caused him to wobble. "Go play nurse t' someone else."
Val's mouth made a firm line and her eyes sparked with temper. "You don't need a nursemaid, Col. Fury. You need a keeper. Look at you, you can hardly stand on your own."
That made him straighten up and stand as tall as he could. "I'm fine. Now go back t' whatever it yer supposed t' be doin'."
"What... I am supposed to be doing? You mean, the oath I took to do my duty and support my director? Even when he's acting like a two year old?"
She took his arm again, because he still looked like he would fall and his face seemed too pale for her liking.
Nick jerked his arm away. "Dammit woman! Leave me alone! I'm fine."
Grabbing his arm, Valentina flipped him onto the floor. Now he was down and not aggravating his injury.
She stood over him, hands on her hips and glaring down at him. "Don't call me woman again, Col. Fury. You may address me as the Contessa Valentina Allegro de la Fontaine."
With that she strode from the room, back straight, chin up and angry. Not so angry that she didn't stop as soon as she was out of sight to call Medical and let them know the colonel needed assistance.
Nick sat up and watched her walk out. He was clearly impressed and damned if she didn't have a really nice ass. He smiled and then started chuckling. Guess she showed him.
