A parent should never bury a child... @ 09:52 pm
nextgen_parent:
It took a few days after the Helicarrier crashed - a few days to drag the river, check the hospitals...Nikki Coulson was MIA, presumed dead. Sammy had seen her in the lower levels a minute before impact, they'd been over the area with every scrap of tech and every ounce of man power SHIELD could scrape up looking for signs of life, and found none. It had been a long time since Phil Coulson had been to the Helicarrier, and he didn't think it would be to try to recover his daughter's personal belongings. She had been a private woman, and the job....it had consumed her life for the last 10 years, there hadn't been anything else, Nikki had put every ounce of her time and energy into becoming a better agent - and now there was a hole in the ground with an empty coffin about to be put in it. Stoic as usual, Phil waited in the back of the small chapel in Norfolk to greet the mourners, to robotically thank them, tell them Nikki would appreciate that they were there before the quiet service was to begin.

Meme: Horror Noir @ 05:33 pm
valini_morse:
It was a dark and stormy night, a solid downpour expected the smell of the air, and the grimiest corners of the city were doing their best to live up to expectations. There'd been a string of murders that the police were baffled but tight lipped over, and one victim's family had been driven to hiring a PI to get any answers. Valini Morse, aka the Shrink, stepped out of the taxi to walk over to both the scene and her partner, scanning the corded off area. "Huh. Reminds me of my last break-up. Clingy bastard." With a sigh, she stuck her hands in her coat's pockets and looked over Lena's shoulder. "Whatcha got so far?" Must contain: Silly agency name, forensics, fighting evil, fashionable trenchcoats and flowy scarves, molotov cocktails, motorcycle chase and seedy bar

The Viper's Bite @ 08:54 pm
onearmofhydra:
Things were going according to plan. Viper was quite please by the way things were progressing. Alliances had been made. Plans were laid and the attack against the RenTech factory had been a great decoy. The real attack had been on another RenTech factory where working Zero Point Energy Modules were being stored. Once she had her hands on an energy source powerful enough to power the weapon scientists had develop she could initiate the next part of her plan. The weapon was almost powerful enough to blacken a large city, but Olivia had other plans. More important plans. The ZPEM was put into the weapon and the weapon was on a large cargo ship in the Atlantic a few miles off the coast of New York Habor. The weapon was powered up. A blinding white light shot forth from the weapon and blazed a trail across the sky. The light slammed into the Helicarrier, SHIELD's flying fortress. While the distraction of the impact of the ion pulse slammed into the Helicarrier, a small flying craft came in right behind the blinding white light. It landed on the deck while panic and chaos broke out on the flying fortress.

Flashback: Shield: Month One @ 10:56 pm
battle_shield:
Working in Shield's intelligence division was a lot like his old job at the CSA, but it was a lot more frantic and hands-on. Not that he had any problems with that, but it wasn't a smooth transition when he transferred to ShIELD. He had a pack of files on hand, a list of various infamous mind-controllers. His superior wanted a comparative analysis of how their different abilities worked. While Josh could tell you what they did, and maybe even a little on how they did it, but the higher-ups wanted a more scientific analysis. So they sent him down to the genetics department to meet with a new, but talented doctor who recently joined the department. What was the name? Jessen? Yeah, that was it. Josh made his way the lab and gave a knock on the door.

Tim whistled as he walked down the busy New York sidewalk. Work was done for the day and now he'd refuel with some coffee before heading home and do some more work.

Why do I always end up talking about things I don't want to? @ 05:06 pm

Coffee machine problems yet again. Sigh. Well that meant venturing out of the lab, and to communal coffee maker to see if there was anything in there, as terrible as the coffee usually was. But a girl had to have her caffeine. So...

Rad chamber sessions back to the usual? @ 02:54 am
bio_nerd:
Okay, so since Josh and his...admission after that whole kidnapping business, Lena had been in full hermit mode. Only people she saw regularly were people helping about in her lab. Considering she hadn't left her lab much at all this wasn't a surprise. A few meetings here and there were mandatory but on the whole she didn't need to do anything but dive into her work. And yes, she'd been avoiding Aleks too. For his rad chamber sessions one of her assistants had been doing them for the time. She had an excuse, it was easy to say that the extra notes on the serum had changed the game and there was work to be done. It was true but she still could've made time for his sessions. But what was she supposed to say? Hi, an old friend sort of confessed, I'm shit with feelings, I don't know what to do or what this means to...whatever this is between us, what is it anyway? Is this being pushy and asking for something more? Because that wasn't what I intended. Awkward. But Aleks was a reasonable sort and she felt bad for avoiding him, she'd been cowardly enough for long enough, time to actually try and talk and make up for that. So when he enters the room today, his regularly scheduled doctor will be there instead, clipboard and files ready like old times. "Hi."

Happy Birthday Lena (open) @ 08:17 pm

Lena would receive a package containing a few bottles of beer Tim brewed and a tee shirt that had the molecular formula for caffeine on it. In addition he sent a pound of Kona roast coffee. The card inside included an invitation to dinner on a night of her choosing.

Tim's lab was cleaned out of all personal stuff and he carried the last few items in a bag slung over his shoulder. The beer fridge would be dismantled and put into storage and kept there when he returned. If he returned. Maybe life's path wouldn't bring him back this way. There was one last thing he had to do. He knocked lightly on the door to Lena's lab.

Keeping a Promise @ 12:46 am
battle_shield:
He couldn't believe he was doing this. Still, he'd given his word. Josh steadily breathed in his nose and out his mouth as he headed for the lab. The more he thought about it, the more it did make sense..of course that didn't stop fear from nestling in. He reached the lab, knocking gently on the door. He then realizes she likely won't hear that. He knocks louder.

Follow the Snarky Fortune Cookie @ 07:15 pm
valini_morse:
Valini pushed around her noodles, searching for some more pork or shrimp to catch with her chopsticks. There nothing like a near-death experience to make wanting to get away from work and have a lunch out more often. "Well, all in all, it sounds like you had a rather exciting time." She smiled sympathetically across the table to Lena, shaking her head. "I thought lab rats were supposed to stay in the labs, make new and interesting ways to melt our coffee cups or blow up tanks and generally stay out of trouble. Minimal exposure to the Day Star, lots of coffee at all times and leave all the trouble to the cowboy-types in SHIELD."

Two and a half weeks (Lena) @ 10:22 pm
shield_legacy:
They had been working non-stop for two and a half weeks on the project and had made considerable progress. The notes Erskine's granddaughter had found were valuable and had helped them make the progress they had. Tim mused that if they had these notes decades ago they would have recreated the Super Soldier serum long before now. Tim had been working for the past thirty six hours and needed a break. Maybe a quick nap and some caffeine. They would do the trick.

shield_legacy:
Tim wasn't sure what was going on, but he had been summoned to a mission briefing. He usually didn't get called to mission briefings. The only briefings he ever got to go to were ones where they did weapons demonstrations. He entered the room and was surprised he was the first one there. He grabbed a chair and kicked back while he waited.

I was drowning my sorrows, but my sorrows they learned to swim (Lena) @ 09:15 pm
shield_legacy:
Tim did the one thing most people do when they didn't want to think; he threw himself into his work. He spent the past week in his lab working on projects. When he was working he wasn't thinking about things like feelings and whatnot. Life was better that way.

Second Date @ 04:14 pm
heytheredelilah:
Aleks has been hard at work with a lot of the preparation, wanting everything to be perfect. He knows Lena wants to help - so he's made sure to stock up on things for a salad (with garlic croutons), and asked her to bring the wine or whatever she'd like. On the main menu is pizza. Specifically, he's worked on cooking crushed garlic into the homemade crust, and building a garlic and oil sauce - for the garlic, chicken, garlic, bacon and garlic pizza. As the time of arrival approaches, he's working on the dough, with everything else laid out neatly for when its ready.

Deck the Lab @ 10:43 pm
shield_legacy:
The labrats, Tim included, loved the holidays. At least the ones where they were allowed to decorate. They had a ton of decorations and they took a day to decorate the lab. This year was no exception. The lab was decorated to the hilt. They had a fireplace, with a real fire, a recliner and a Christmas tree in the middle. They even had holographic projections to turn the lab into Santa's Workshop. Snow fell all around the lab and went from flakes directly to gas, not leaving any water anywhere. They even had a remote controlled Santa with sleigh and reindeer flying around the lab. Once in awhile it would buzz close to someone's head and then zip away. All of the labrats wore santa hats or elf ears. Humorous Christmas songs played on the sound system. Someone had even put some mistletoe over the main entrance to the lab.

At the still point of destruction, at the center of the fury @ 08:58 pm
nextgen_parent:
Charles Xavier, head of the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning and mentor of the X-Men, had been busy in the recent days. Together with an old friend, Erik Lehnsherr, the two of them pushed the anti-human groups into action. Attacks on humans started happening all around New York City. In Times Square the MLF appeared and started attacking the sea of people in the "Crossroads of the World". They also targeted the nearby Police and fire stations to hinder efforts to control the chaos they were creating. Down on Wall Street the Brotherhood started attacking the bankers and investment brokers. Leading the attacks on humans were Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Mutants attacking humans prompted responses from anti-mutant groups such as the Friends of Humanity, the Church of Purity and other pro-human groups. The streets of New York quickly became a battleground between humans and mutants.

All Hallow's Eve @ 07:21 pm
nextgen_holiday:
All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween as it has been come to be called, is a popular holiday with children and adults alike. It is a holiday that had its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain or Summer's End. Samhain celebrated the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half". On this evening the barriers between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be thin and the spirits, good and bad, of the dead could pass through. The spirits of the family's ancestors were welcomed in while evil and bad spirits were warded off by the wearing of masks and costumes. The costumes and masks disguised one as a harmful spirit and avoided harm from others. It was also a harvest celebration and time to take stock of food stores for the winter. Livestock were slaughtered and the meat prepared for storage. It was the final harvest of the year and the crops were then stored for the winter. Celebrations included bonfires and tales of the family's ancestors. It was a celebration of the dead and of the harvest. Today we dress up in scary and not so scary costumes and masks and go door to door for candy or attend costume parties. It is a night for revelry, pranks and fun.

Bad Weather Explosion @ 02:55 pm
_flyboy_:
Brad had been assigned drop off and pick up duty for a SHIELD team going after a HYDRA weather control device project. It was a pretty easy mission from the info he had been given about the assignment and that had proven to be true. Well a least until someone had messed up big time and broke the experimental prototype device. That caused the weather around the base to go haywire. Now Brad found himself flying in a clunky mission transport trying to fly through a couple of scary looking tornadoes. He was really wishing he was in something with a bit more flight maneuver ability right now. It was taking all of his skill to keep some measure of control of planes flight. But needless to say things were pretty bumpy right now up in the air with a high chance of being upgraded from bumpy to crashy soon.

It's All About Wording (open) @ 10:23 pm
shield_legacy:
It had taken some time to figure out exactly how to do this, but it all came down to the wording. Tim didn't lie on the requisition form, he did need a cooling unit in the lab since there were chemicals and things that needed to stay cool or they would go boom, but the cooling unit wasn't exactly a typical lab type of cooling unit. With the newly renovated lab space there was enough room for Tim to finally have space for what he had been dreaming about for some time now. On the Purchase Rec it was a cooling unit. In actuality it was way more than that. The rec went in through the normal channels and got approved. A few weeks later it was delivered and Tim had set it up in the lab. One side for beer and one side for those things that would go boom. He had put those things that go boom in there and had put some of his own brewed beer in it.

Carrying a rather large box with holes, Lena rushes through the hallway, walking at a very brisk pace and trying to catch that elevator just as it closes. Normally there was someone who did this part but they were out so she kept having to leave the lab to run around the place with things for the experiments.

The "Dreaded' Yearly Psych Evaluation @ 02:16 am
bio_nerd:
Publicly she grumbled just as much, okay fine, more than, most people when it came to the psych evals. Why should she have to leave her lab to sit in someone's office and talk about her feelings? Ugh, what a waste of time. Not to mention all the potential for awkward questions. But there was a loophole. And that loophole came around whenever Val did the evaluations. Of course it required some secrecy, not everyone could know about this otherwise they'd all want it, so that meant the evaluation was scheduled in the evening, when most of the casual workers had left, and everyone still around was too busy. There's a light knock on Valini's office door and Lena pokes her head in. For once she's out of the lab coat, a rather rare sight most days. "Hey! Annual proof-I'm-not-too-crazy time?"

Happy Birthday Josh (Backdated to Aug 5th)(open) @ 10:25 pm
shield_legacy:
Tim was horrible with dates unless they were a deadline and it was normal for him to miss things. Thankfully he set up reminders for important things like birthdays. The only one he ever remembered without a reminder was Sammy's. When the notification came in for Josh's birthday Tim took some time in the morning to head into New York and get him a gift. Tim wasn't exactly sure what to get him, but he did find a few things. He left a wrapped copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War and a gift card to Barnes and Noble on Josh's desk in HQ.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Timmy!(Open to SHIELD) @ 10:34 am
sammyfury:
It wasn't often she missed Tim's birthday, but when she did, Sammy tried to make up for it by going over her birthday budget. Tim was her oldest, best friend. He knew where her skeletons were hidden and what alibis worked best when she was up to no good. That deserved special attention. A box 'appeared' in his lab. Inside he would find packages of cookies and brownies, gift cards to sporting goods stores and iTunes, and an extra large tee shirt with the Superman logo on the front. Instead of an S, there was a T stretched across it. She included a card written in code and a plastic decoder ring for fun.

From Amusement Park to...Jail? @ 02:15 pm
bio_nerd:
Getting her out of the lab was an achievement itself. Getting her out of the lab to go to an amusement park? That was even more of a feat. But here she was, first amusement park visit since she'd left school and now she remembered why she had grumbled about the place before. Overpriced food, tickets, games and not to mention the long lines. Okay, secretly she loved rollercoasters but who had time anymore? Although last time she'd gone there'd been a discussion of the physics of rollercoasters. While on one. She half expected Tim to do that too. Not that she'd mind because nerdy fun was always a plus. "I'm reserving a round of one of those shooting games. Those I can actually win something at."

Road trip- Carjacked! @ 10:55 pm
bio_nerd:
Stepping out of the roadside diner they'd made a stop at, Lena feels refreshed and ready to go. She figured it was her turn at the wheel now anyway, poor Tim had done most of the driving until now. "Okay, I'll admit, I know about your whole thing about getting fellow lab people out and about to enjoy society and all but this is actually quite fun. There, I said it. I can enjoy being out of the lab." In fact, maybe she'd make the effort to leave it more oft- ...damn it. No. This could not be...she'd bet the new equipment on it's way to her lab that they'd parked the car right there! And it had been locked. There's some unlady-like swearing under her breath now.
