When In Rome
Every year at the end of the school year there was a dance held at Xavier's Institute of Higher Learning. It wasn't a prom so to speak because all the students were invited, not just the juniors and seniors. This year the students were asked what they wanted to do and the consensus was that they wanted to take a trip instead of holding a dance.

Their destination, they decided, was Rome and they would be there for a week.

Rome provided many museums and historical sites for an educational benefit, but it also had many clubs and other spots for entertainment. The days would be spent taking tours around the historical sites and museums around the city. The students would be allowed to go out at night. The older kids would be allowed out on their own, while the younger ones would be allowed out with a chaperone.

Logistics were worked out and a floor of a hotel in the heart of Rome was reserved. Airline tickets were purchased and the students were transported to the hotel.

Ten hours later they stepped off the plane in Italy and were taken to their hotel to freshen up.

Corey nodded. "Yep. And it's true."

It was. Corey sincerely wanted to make the offerings. But his very favorite deities wouldn't need the bottles afterward. Those lovely, squishable, one-liter plastic milk bottles, with just a touch of milk left in them would be so much better in the bottom of the suitcases of some 'deserving' schoolmates.

Jessica was not entirely sure why she'd decided to come, other than, perhaps, making an effort to get to know the other students better and maybe forget for a minute the living hell that was her life.

On the other hand, at least she was traveling light. She'd volunteered most of her suitcase space for other people's things, since she did not need any herself.

Cait was glad Jessica had decided to come along. Since their talk the other day, Cait had been worried about her. Not everyone adjusted well to being a mutant and life at Xaviers. Cait hoped that this trip would allow Jess to see that she can do normal things.

She smiled at Jess. "He's up to something, which means we should all be on our toes."

Corey gave a mildly affronted glance to the girls, then smiled.

"So, anything you two are particularly looking forward to?"

"I'll keep that in mind," she told Cait.

She shrugged. "I dunno. Never really been outside the States before."

"Little brothers are such a pain in the ass," she grumbled.

Cait had been thinking about that since the idea of a trip had first been brought up. "The Coliseum, St. Peter's, the Catacombs," and the idea of leaving one pesky little brother down there, "and the Sistine Chapel to start. Not to mention the shopping." The clubs too, but she didn't dare mention that to her brother. The little twerp would tell their parents.

Speaking of younger siblings, here comes David. He had alternated between looking sick the whole ride over and perking up mildly. He did give them all a nod then glanced at Corey.

"Hey, Corey? If you go to a store could you pick me up some ginger ale if I spot you for it?" He offers a smile and nod to the others. He was also trying to look like he was happy to be here but everything was over whelming for him.

Corey'd heard enough around to hold him back from going on about how Jessica had to try the second-best hot chocolate in the world. "Those are all going to be awesome," he agreed. "Except, you know, the shopping part. For non-ritual purposes." He looks over and nods to David. "Will do."

"That sounds fine to me," she said. Truth be told, Rome at least sounded exciting. Even if she couldn't enjoy the food, she could at least take in the sights.

David nods his thanks. He thought he was feeling better now so he could actually enjoy the trip after the plane ride.

"So, what do you think we'll do first?"

"Probably the Colosseum. Hardcore Flavian-Dynasty architecture, really big, can't miss it. But I've got to be off to find a grocer now."

The flight over was good for Misha. He flirted with the flight attendants, amused the students when possible, and kept an eye on his little brother. He was the ideal chaperon - old enough to know better, young enough to enjoy it anyway.

Rome was a familiar place to him thanks to Mom taking him and Anya all over the world during their vacations. He loved the city. He knew were to find the best shopping and hole-in-the-wall restaurants, the best clubs, and how to keep out of trouble.

"The hotel will have milk and ginger ale available if you want it or tell you where the nearest market is."

Then to see if the club he visited the year before was still in business.

Jessica managed a smile, finding it didn't take much effort as she thought it would.

"Sounds like a plan then."

David agrees while checking on his back pack. They would have to get to the hotel. Then they could get what they needed.

Maybe food once they were more settled in too. He knew once his stomach was settled he'd get hungry.

"The hotel and then Rome!" Cait beamed. It felt great to be in another country and another city.

Technically, Jessica could probably go to Rome any time she wanted to. With her potential maximum flight speed, crisscrossing the globe was potentially easy. Granted, her reaction times did not match that, but...

She followed along with the others, a small smile on her face.

Lucas frequently has to run to catch back up to the others, since every single cathedral or even especially old piece of architecture has gotten him to stop and marvel.
That, and he usually gets to ask directions or get information, because apparently he speaks the local language, fluently.

Corey thanked Misha for the suggestion. And he would sulk if Lucas encroached too much on his reading the most interesting of the inscriptions to everyone.

Misha was looking forward to a hot shower and a change of clothes. Flying always made him feel grungy when he arrived at his destination.

"How about we find our rooms, do whatever - no descriptions necessary, and meet back on the street in say... an hour to go look for food and explore some on foot before we get started on the tours tomorrow?."

"A shower would be heavenly," Cait said with a dreamy sigh. "I always feel grungy after a long flight." Cait had been on enough long flights to and from Nova Roma. "Then I'd love to explore a little."

Showering. Yet another thing she didn't do. Solid light didn't sweat, ergo, she didn't develop any layers of filth or stink.

"I, um," she said, "need to make sure my sleeping pod gets set up right, but then I'll be good."

Showers. Pshaw. "Sounds good."
And he nodded to Lucas. "I'd love to, y'know, post-milk-issues."
