When In Rome
Every year at the end of the school year there was a dance held at Xavier's Institute of Higher Learning. It wasn't a prom so to speak because all the students were invited, not just the juniors and seniors. This year the students were asked what they wanted to do and the consensus was that they wanted to take a trip instead of holding a dance.

Their destination, they decided, was Rome and they would be there for a week.

Rome provided many museums and historical sites for an educational benefit, but it also had many clubs and other spots for entertainment. The days would be spent taking tours around the historical sites and museums around the city. The students would be allowed to go out at night. The older kids would be allowed out on their own, while the younger ones would be allowed out with a chaperone.

Logistics were worked out and a floor of a hotel in the heart of Rome was reserved. Airline tickets were purchased and the students were transported to the hotel.

Ten hours later they stepped off the plane in Italy and were taken to their hotel to freshen up.

"Anyone see if we passed any grocery stores near here?" Corey asked the student body at large. "I need to buy some milk."

"What do you need milk for?" Cait asked warily. She knew her brother was up to something, she was just afraid to know what. "Mom and Dad won't hesitate to toss you on a plane and take you home." Figures she and Corey were one of the few students with parents playing chaperone.

"Mom will totally respect this. And Dad will respect from that little bit in the bottom of his heart that likes to think of Grandpa William freaking out if he knew. Over near San Bartolomeo's Church are the sites of two of the oldest shrines of Antiqua Roma to Faunus and Terra Mater." Corey grinned and shrugged. "A guy's gotta pay his professional respects when he gets the chance, and milk's traditionally the next-best thing to pouring out a bottle of wine." Which he really can't afford. Not with half a sheep to pay off.

She had to give him credit. He did have a reasonable sounding rationale for it, but Cait knew her brother and knew that it wasn't the only reason.

Still, she couldn't call him out on it without something to back her up. "Oh. That makes sense."

Corey nodded. "Yep. And it's true."

It was. Corey sincerely wanted to make the offerings. But his very favorite deities wouldn't need the bottles afterward. Those lovely, squishable, one-liter plastic milk bottles, with just a touch of milk left in them would be so much better in the bottom of the suitcases of some 'deserving' schoolmates.

Jessica was not entirely sure why she'd decided to come, other than, perhaps, making an effort to get to know the other students better and maybe forget for a minute the living hell that was her life.

On the other hand, at least she was traveling light. She'd volunteered most of her suitcase space for other people's things, since she did not need any herself.

Cait was glad Jessica had decided to come along. Since their talk the other day, Cait had been worried about her. Not everyone adjusted well to being a mutant and life at Xaviers. Cait hoped that this trip would allow Jess to see that she can do normal things.

She smiled at Jess. "He's up to something, which means we should all be on our toes."

Corey gave a mildly affronted glance to the girls, then smiled.

"So, anything you two are particularly looking forward to?"

"I'll keep that in mind," she told Cait.

She shrugged. "I dunno. Never really been outside the States before."

"Little brothers are such a pain in the ass," she grumbled.

Cait had been thinking about that since the idea of a trip had first been brought up. "The Coliseum, St. Peter's, the Catacombs," and the idea of leaving one pesky little brother down there, "and the Sistine Chapel to start. Not to mention the shopping." The clubs too, but she didn't dare mention that to her brother. The little twerp would tell their parents.

Speaking of younger siblings, here comes David. He had alternated between looking sick the whole ride over and perking up mildly. He did give them all a nod then glanced at Corey.

"Hey, Corey? If you go to a store could you pick me up some ginger ale if I spot you for it?" He offers a smile and nod to the others. He was also trying to look like he was happy to be here but everything was over whelming for him.

Corey'd heard enough around to hold him back from going on about how Jessica had to try the second-best hot chocolate in the world. "Those are all going to be awesome," he agreed. "Except, you know, the shopping part. For non-ritual purposes." He looks over and nods to David. "Will do."

"That sounds fine to me," she said. Truth be told, Rome at least sounded exciting. Even if she couldn't enjoy the food, she could at least take in the sights.

After a shower and promises made to her parents that she wouldn't be out too late, Cait was ready to explore Rome. She waited in the lobby of the hotel to see if anyone else would be joining her.

Misha arrived freshly showered with water drops still in his hair and his phone against his ear.

"Yes Mom. I'll be careful. Promise. I love you too."

He disconnected the phone and gave Cait a smile. "Moms. When I'm a hundred I'll still be promising her that I'll be careful."

Lucas wanders down next. This is the part of the trip he's been really looking forward to, a chance to look around and take in the sights.

Jessica still wasn't sure how the chaperons had manged to get her sleeping pod into the country, but she was grateful for it. Trying to stay awake for extended periods was possible, but it tended to take its toll on her, even if she didn't exactly get physically tired.

It was nice to know she wasn't going to dissipate into random light particles though.

"Are we ready?"

Cait looked at Misha. Did her heart just skip a beat? He had such a nice smile and was totally out of her league. "Yes, well as my dad says, Moms are the only women in your life who will love you unconditionally."

She smiled at Jess. "I think we are."

"What's funny is that in your family, you will still have to promise when you're a hundred." Corey had seen to it David got his ginger ale, and had acquired the milk, which he put in a little backpack.

"Yeah, yeah," Misha grumped goodnaturedly. He slung an arm around Cait's shoulders in the same way he would have Anya's and spoke to include everyone. "There are museum and church tours set up for the next few days. How about we pick a direction and walk? There'll be someplace to eat and plenty to see. Towards the Coliseum? Trevi Fountain? The Steps?"

Cait blushed a little when Misha put his arm around her. Not that he meant anything by it. He saw her like a cousin, maybe a sister, but nothing ever more than that.

"I would like to see the Trevi Fountain and the Fountain of the Four Rivers. There's also a fountain...." Yes, Cait had a one track mind.

Huh. There was something Jessica hadn't thought about before. Just how old would she get? Would she be walking the world when everyone else was dead and gone? Or would her energy matrix eventually give out?

Ah well, not thoughts for vacation. "I'm good with whatever anyone else wants."

"Not to contribute to Cait's apparent desire to drown us all, but towards the south bend of the river would be good for me." Then he could get to his spot.
