Alpha Flight
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

Christmas Day is a Christian holiday, it's true, but it also has become increasingly secular. It is an opportunity for love, charity, and goodwill.

There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. And gifts have been placed under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

Alpha Flight headquarters are fairly drab, but some lighting and decorations have been hung, and a tree sits in the common area. As for the team themselves...

"None of us do, and I was hoping that if I went along with it and played good soldier, it'd make it easier on some of the rest of you. As for the so-what, whether we have a choice or not, me not being leader doesn't mean I don't still give a damn about the rest of you, or wanting to do what I can here to help people out."

"I know," she says, a little shyly. "You know... I only follow his orders because you told me to. If you ever need things to go differently, you only have to ask."

He nods, stepping a little further into the room and closing the door. "I appreciate that, I really do. The loyalty you guys showed me means the world to me. But I didn't come in expecting to be team leader, and I have no experience other than captaining a motorcycle racing team. He does. And as long as I think he's keeping you guys safe, I'm going to follow orders. I'm here because I want to be, and I think we can make a difference. Even if its not always easy."

"I'll follow his orders, then. But I don't have to like it." She crosses to him and smiles. "You were a great leader."

He nods, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I appreciate that, I really do. And I can't ask anyone to like it, but if you need to talk, or are worried about something specific, I'm still here as a friend and teammate, ok?"
He grins. "As for my leadership, hey, at least I get to say I invaded America, how many Canadian leaders get to say that, huh?"

She puts her hand on his, where it rests on her shoulder, and she looks him in the eyes.

"Thanks, Jordan. And... same goes to you. If you need to talk, or need anything at all... just let me know."

"I'll keep it in mind. Honestly, right now I'm ok. The whole change thing was a bit of a shock, but I want to give the guy every chance. I also want to try and get this place set up so his fiance can get about, and see if having him around makes him a little less robotic and help him fit in too. This has got to be a serious bitch on their side too."

She shrugs.

"I guess." Truth be told, she wasn't so interested in letting him fit in or easing the stress of the change, but she doesn't tell Jordan that.

"So are you going to see your family on Christmas day?" she asks, abruptly changing the subject.

"No, not this year. I suppose we probably could fly home and all, and I was planning on letting Mason know I'll get him tickets if he wants them, but not everyone here has a lot of family to go to, and I kind of wanted to be here, take people out for dinner, give them somewhere to be and someone to be with on Christmas, you know? How about you?"

"Not sure, but I suspect that Alex is. Not sure what Mason is going to do. Marrina and Mel both have fantastic families, but not sure if they have the resources to get them home easily. I'm letting people know that flights are covered if they want to go home for a few days though."

He can't help but grin. "I'm just spreading the good luck around. If I was any more Cindarella I'd be in a pink dress and tiara. Which would suck."

She smirks at him.

Above and slightly behind where Jordan is standing, Emily concentrates her magical power, and a small sprig of mistletoe appears.

She glances up, as if noticing it for the first time.

"Uh oh," she smiles.

It's gentle, slow, and definitely not a "friendly" kiss.

He kisses her back. There's no hurry to it, matching her intensity, but there's definite hints of intent there.
