The angry little sister with a gun (open)
Sammy considered her options.

While Big Brother needed a beating and using her fists would be satisfying, she wasn't going to get into Mikel's cell. She was going to have a hard enough time getting in to see him.

That left her best friend, her firearm. She could play Fish in a Barrel. It wasn't right, but screw right, even if Mom gave her a lecture about it. She wouldn't ask Mom's opinion. Mom would be diplomatic about it, until the moment she stopped and did something final to solve the problem and get it out of their lives.

She wasn't asking Dad's opinion. She felt anger, even a little betrayed. It bubbled up through under the hero worship and had her avoiding him and his calls. She hadn't hidden anything from him. She told him that Mikel wanted into her life. All he had to do was say Mikel couldn't be trusted and to stay away from him. Instead, he'd encouraged her to see the bastard and caused her to hope they'd be a family. Maybe it would've turned out the same, but she wouldn't hate herself so much now for being a willing fool if she'd put up a fight in the beginning.

In the end, all she had was rage and hurt and words that wouldn't make a dent the bastard's feelings. So she'd settle for looking at him and wondering what it was that made a brother she'd never known hate her so much that he'd use his own sister to bring their father down.

On the firing range at the hydrobase, she practiced her own sort of therapy. There were six empty clips in front of her, and another six full ones waiting to be used. The target was tatters. She hadn't switched it out, mostly because she'd put a picture of Mikel on it and it wasn't yet completely destroyed.

Daniel had been looking for a place to cut loose with his magic. He didn't have so many problems like the others with family. But he had been needing time to hone his aim when he came in and just stood back and watched Sammy.

He didn't know her that well but he could see she was pretty angry. So he took his time and cleaned his glasses. He didn't want to startle her now while she was angry.

Anger didn't stop her from realizing someone was there. She finished up the clip, set the gun aside to remove the ear protectors, and looked around. She didn't know the guy well enough to remember his name off the top of her head, but it came to her after a few moments. She returned to the business of reloading.

"Hey."

Daniel nodded to her then eyed the damage she had done to the target. The hots looked clean and well focused like the rage he imagined she felt right now. The only reason someone unloaded six clips with six more waiting like that was if they were angry. He didn't know her that well either which was hy the brainwashing hadn't hurt his feelings as much.

"Hi. So. Shooting therapy," he asks the last part with a quirked brow. He has been trying to hide his ears in vain most of the day and his hair just won't stay still so he looks just a little like a young Spock.

"It's a hobby," she said, slapping the new clip home. "What's up?"

"Nothing. Just trying to find a place to work on one of my.... spells. It kind of works off of aiming," he says with a shrug. "I wouldn't compare it to a gun but I need to fine tune my aiming. It's not a big deal. I just need the practice or I might miss when it's important."

He was setting up a target in the next 'stall' and letting it rattle down to the end. He thinks about it for a moment then begins to start to call something fourth before snapping his fingers and going for another set of ear protectors. It was mostly because of Sammy's gun. His spells didn't make too much noise if any.

"This is a good spot for it. Even if the roof comes down on us, it won't hurt the public."

Conversation halted during the next round of gunfire. She had to conclude that yes, the picture was pretty much done for and she needed a new target.

While she reloaded, she watched Daniel's spellcasting from her station.

"Yeah. I don't want to hurt anyone who I'm not fighting," Daniel says just loud enough for her to hear him.

His hands weaved in a pattered as he gathered up the magical energy. It was an easy to learn spell and he pointed out one finger as a bolt of green purple energy shot fourth and hit the target in the shoulder. It left a small hole in the paper.

He shook his head then gathered up what he needed and aimed again getting the stomach area. He was at least able to hit more than one area, he decided absently.

Third time was the charm. It got the target in the chest and he was happier with that. Now if he could get his next two shots in that area he'd he happy. So far he hadn't missed though which was good.

Sammy had never given much thought to magic needing aiming practice. She made a mental note to add the tidbit to her file on Daniel. It was a good thing to know.

She changed out her target, now in scraps on the floor at her feet, and put up a fresh one. It was the normal outline now, no face to destroy.

At her next reload break, she resumed the conversation with a yell. "How are you getting along with the team?"

Well her certainly needed to aim. Moving targets were the worse he had decided some time ago. They threw his aim off.

Daniel was getting better though. It wasn't focused in one area but spread out in a circling cluster.

"Okay. Not really used to working with people and computers go over my head so I can't really get into discussions over them." He shrugs and lets loose another bot of arcane energy. "I think I'm adjusting okay and I feel safe trusting the team which is more than I can say for when I just joined you guys. I had no idea if I'd trust anyone."

Trust was a bad issue with Sammy at the moment. Brainwashing will do that to a person. Her mouth thinned into a line as she counted her remaining clips.

"They're a good group."

He let loose a bolt that went wide. Darn. He needed more work on this.

"You're a member of the team," he pointed out. "I'm still the new guy."

He has to push his glasses back up his nose. "I trust you as much as I trust the rest."

She nodded. He was diplomatic, that was for sure.

"We can use all the help we can get," she said. "What made you apply for membership?"

"Scarlet Witch." He pauses and then continues. "There was a hex put on me by another magic user so it was messing with plants and rocks near me. I met her when a tree had me hanging upside down like a buffoon while it tried to figure out how to eat me."

That had been embarrassing.

"A...tree? Tried to eat you?" Her mood shifted as she tried hard not to laugh at the mental picture of Daniel upside and a tree trying to stuff him into a knothole. "That must have been traumatic."

"It kind of was. I can pull magic from plants and that hex cut me off." He rubs his nose then lets out one more bolt.

He can feel sweat forming on his back. He finds it interesting so he counts the bolts. Has he been drawing on his own reserves?

"I was happy when it was over."

"That's... complicated?" He flexes one hand.

"Wanda got me talking. She didn't seem happy I was flying solo," he mutters and shrugs. "After we dealt with the guys who put that hex on me it got me thinking I could do more good on a team than on my own. Plus I guess I was lonely and figured it wouldn't hurt since magical back up is good so I applied."

He guesses he was lonely? Don't lie Sherwood. He pretty much is on his own most of the time when he isn't here.

He chuckles softly. "My Dad was.... annoyed? He thought I would get into more danger. But I've got less bruises from doing things than I used to."

Sometimes his bruises had bruises not so much anymore.
