Long Night of Work
It was almost nightfall in Seattle and Bram was in a good mood. It was going to be a nice night for hunting he could already tell. He was feeling good and it was supposed to be a clear night. It was always fun putting the fear of Harker into some vampires.

Still it was early yet for doing any serious hunting so Bram headed over to Greg's bar for some food and drink before he would be heading out.

Seeing Dolemeck Bram made his way towards him. "How are you doing mate," Bram says as he takes a seat across from him and motions for a drink.

"Not too bad. The doctors continue to be very hopeful with my progress." He offered him a smile, the left side of his face still heavily scarred. He was still poking at his food with a fork as he spoke with Bram. "How about you? It has been awhile since we have had the time to talk."

"Well that good to hear," Bram says. He noticed that he was out of the wheelchair now.

"Been taking care of business," Bram says with a grin. He still wasn't happy to hear about the other working with vampires.

"I should buy you a drink for every vampire you take down... but then I would have fears you would die of alcohol poisoning." He grinned, finally taking a bite from his plate. "I am still angered a deal was struck with them. They now walk about with such arrogance. More so than before! They now dare to make snide comments if I am out at night. Bloody bastards..."

"I'd probably just save up the drinks for later. Though seeing if a vampire could die of alcohol poisoning could be fun." He couldn't stand how daring the vampires here had become but it did make it a little sweeter seeing the shock when he destroyed them.

"They you should show them who really owns the night."

"I would if I could, you know that." He sighed, taking a long drink of his beer. "I cannot stand unassisted for long, Bram. I would just fall over in pain after awhile, and that would leave me vulnerable to attack. I would rather put up with their taunts than end up being mauled or turned into one of them."

"When I am able to walk without assistance and perhaps be able to run, however... I will tear them apart, Bram. Not a threat, but a promise. And not because they hurt my pride, but because I am sick of knowing how many innocents they hurt." He took another bite out of the potato on his plate before speaking once more.

"Did you hear about the hospitals having blood shortages, now?"

"My gramps fought vampires for over fifty years from a wheelchair," Bram says, "So it definitely be done. You just have to be clever and have a few tricks up your sleves."

"But trust me there are more ways that brutal violence to show them that you own the night not them."

"Aye I heard about that. Going to look into it when I have time."

"Your grandfather was quite the man." He chuckled. "We could always use me as bait and you could have all the glory, too."

His potato was nearly finished before he spoke again.

"Bram, the matter needs to be looked into as soon as possible. The shortage could be devastating to people who need blood for medical purposes." Dolemeck reaches into his coat pocket and takes out a map. He moves his plate away so he can lay it out on the table to show Bram the various circles he had drawn on it.

"I've managed to find a pattern to this madness. The hospitals were not hit directly, but clinics that provide blood to them were. The clinics that have severely depleted blood supplies I circled. Oddly enough, there is one vampire haven that is within reach of all of them." He tapped the map on the location of the haven, before taking another drink of his beer.

"Yes he was," Bram says taking a drink of his own drink when it arrives. "No that's your fight. Otherwise you don't prove anything to them." Though if they took it any further he would go out of his way to slay them.

"There is a lot going on in this city. Vampires killing innocent people in the streets," He says grimly, "I will look into the matter when I have time."

"That haven might be worth checking out but there still the possibility of this being bigger than that," He says, "Especially with how arrogant they are becoming here."

"That is my fear." he gave a solemn nod of the head. "They are far too comfortable and arrogant these days. Attacks in the open, missing people, displays of dominance and power... they may wish us to think we have lost complete control to throw us off. It would be a battle tactic in my time. But in the modern era, I have my doubts."

His fingers move over the map, looking at it and making a few more circles.

"These areas are where some people were last seen. They are within the radius of one of the Vampire nightclubs. Unfortunately, because it takes days before people are allowed to make missing person reports, the numbers could be larger than what I have documented. Because no bodies have been found, I fear they are being used as "food"."

Dolemeck sat back for a minute, absentmindedly feeling the scar over his face as he thought. He then turned back to Bram, a weak smile on his face.

"Do you know how to kill a dragon? You do not go in charging and wielding a sword like a nutter. You do not bring an army, because the lose of life would not be worth the kill. What you do is cut off it's food supply. When the dragon cannot eat, it weakens. When it's too weak to breath fire, it is easy to kill."

He pointed to the night club on the map.

"If we go and destroy their ability to harvest "food". Meaning the haven and this club, we'll be dealing a huge blow. As their numbers have grown, taking out their sources for nutrition could create discord within their own ranks, making it easier for us to rid them. Of course this is all in theory."

When Dolemeck allowed himself to, well, be himself, he was quite good with figuring out tactics, as well as doing research. He truly wasn't as helpless as they all thought.

"Not everywhere they don't," Bram says wishing he could get more support to take out this problem at it's head. "But at least their arrogance is a weakness to be exploited."

"There are places like that all over the city," Bram noted with a nod, "But it would not surprise me if that was what they were doing."

"Go for it's weak spot of it's softer underbelly," He had done some reading on them over there years. Plus there may have been some playing of St. George the dragon-slayer when he was younger which his grandfather helped with.

"But cutting off it's food supply can be just as dangerous to you."

"Stopping those wouldn't stop them from that for long. They would just find some other place to feed. But if turned into a devastating blow to their moral it might do more damage. Key targets for destruction would be important."

"That I can provide you." He started making some X's on the map. "We are fortunate that with their teasing of a crippled man, their arrogance let slip some of their secrets. Arthur always said a man's arrogance is a man's downfall, and it appears my liege was right."

"Here are what I believe is the key targets you seek. Another haven in an abandoned church, and this laundry mat... which is only a guise. Apparently there is a building beneath it with some elite vampires hidden away there. After-all, who would suspect a laundry mat?"

"The nightclub is where I believe they are taking their kidnapped victims for the purpose of supplying food. Where they go from there is a mystery to me, but hitting it right now is as you said... way too dangerous. BUT, if we can discover where they are taking the people from that location, we could figure out where their main storage is."

He then placed an X over an old asylum outside of town.

"Then there is this place. I have heard about a large amount of activity here as of late. Not children looking to scare themselves kind of activity, but something worse. I hear rumors, but I cannot pin point what exactly is going on, Bram. Whatever it is, they are operating outside of the city and trying to stay off the radar... as you would say in this modern era."

"For most vampires arrogance is one of their greatest weaknesses," Bram says with a nod.

"You'd be surprised with vampires. Found a bunch hanging out at a 24 hour tanning saloon once. But taking out some management is always a good idea. Throws them into a little bit of chaos."

"You don't have to kill all over the vampires to get a place shut down and throw a wrench in their plans. There are plenty of other ways to get a place shut down."

"That would probably require a plan before checking out. Wandering blindly into the unknown is a great way to get killed. But if they want to stay hidden then clearly they should be thrown into the light of day."

"... do you want me to shadowport into the nightclub during the day with canisters of roaches, then call the health inspector? That would close down any place fast enough." He mused. "The leg braces may make me a tad bit heavier, but I should be able to do that undetected. I might even be able to let loose some rats as well."

"With activity only happening during the night, my best bet would be to explore the Asylum during the day. Out of all of us, I can gain easy access and escape faster." He gave Bram a serious look. "And this time, I will remain in full communication and pull out when needed. My foolishness nearly got me killed once, it shall not happen again."

"If you want to do that feel free," Bram says with a laugh, "Any help is good."

"Still dangerous. If that place is important they will definitely have human thralls guarding it too. They don't like leaving things to chance. But definitely better than going there at night. Good to see you're learning then."

"Who else in our group would be willing to let loose a horde or rats and roaches into a Vampire nightclub?" He chuckled. "Arthur once had me and a few other nights use a makeshift catapult to send over a dead pig into an enemy camp. This would be no different for me. Besides, it gives me something to do until I am in fighting condition."

He order himself another beer, as his bottle was now empty.

"If I did not learn from my mistakes, I would be very dead by now." He gave Bram another grin. "I should be fine if I go during the day. Even if there are human thralls about, I can escape easily. Or I can just remain in the "shadow world" and examine from there. It's... odd.

"When I slip into the shadows, I can look through the world through any shadow in the area about me. Like looking through a glass bottom boat. Though staying for a long time in "shadow world" is exhausting. The longest I can go is about 15 minutes before needing to come back out of the shadows. But it would be enough time for me to see what is going on and give a report."

"I think most of them would be willing to," Bram says, "Just most wouldn't have much ease in doing so."

Bram nodded. "Definitely better to run so that you can fight another day," he says listening to what Dolemeck was talking about.

"Aye, running is nice. I just hope I can be able to do so, again." He smiled, finishing off his beer. "Shit, I just realized a problem with the plan to unleash bugs and rodents upon those clubs. Some vampires can control rodents. That would not bode well if I unleash something they can control!"

He drummed his fingers along the top of the table he sat at. Well, there goes that plan!

"Besides, Tyler would be pissed if we poked at the hornet's nest, so to speak. We need to start working as a team, Bram. Our last battle... we were all over the place, disorganized, and look what happened? I do not wish for anyone to end up as injured as I was, or worse." He tapped the scar on the side of his face. "It tends to put a damper on getting a date. Especially if you are dead! The only thing you date when you are dead are the worms."

"True but most don't think to do it and there are a lot of other ways to get a health inspector mad at them," Bram says, "Just need to keep him safe though."

"That's why you don't poke the nest you kill them all before they get made. We let the enemy get to close without intel."

"If it makes you feel better chicks dig scars especially if there a good story to go with it."

"Women dig scars in this era?" he raised an eyebrow. "If you had a scar in mine, it was a mark of shame. It meant you were a terrible warrior. How funny, the way things change."

Dolemeck order another round of beers for himself and Bram. He was starting to get a little tipsy, and thankfully knew he had a two beer limit.

"Do they also dig leg braces?" He chuckled. "Granted I am not... mature enough for a relationship at this point. It does not mean I do not want to still have some fun with a lass."

"That they do. But cool scars more so than anything. But scars can mean a lot of different things."

"That depends on the guy, the girl, and the story but there usually can be some sympathy in any case. At least that what an old mate of mine thought."

"I am not THAT desperate that I would be looking for... ummm... I think you would call it a "pity fuck"." He drank from his second bottle of beer. "I'd like to think I have more class than that. Though tales of heroics do tend to leave many in awe."

"My friend Argo could tell you a tale of his heroics, and if there were women within a two mile radius, they would rush over and swarm him!" He laughed, slapping his knee, then regretting it as he hit part of the brace. he shook his hand to get the sting out. "Sometimes, I wished I could be like him, only you know... smarter."

"You should see his "little black book". The bloody thing barely fits in a filing cabinet!" He tried to show the size of one of the books he talked of with his hands. "The man must be made of bloody four leave clovers or something to be able to get THAT lucky!"

"I mean, my last two dates were... well. One was a bitch, the other was a she-devil. Jo and Tyler showed some disapproval for the latter one, so I ended our relationship." He sighed. "I miss Diana sometimes."

"You are so lucky not to bother with it, as I had." He gave Bram a toast. "My first date complained constantly. I was too clingy, not experienced enough, lived too far away... I just was not good enough, I suppose. Then again, that was my first serious relationship. I was a bit clueless."

"Diana, however. She was understanding, fun, never complained about any of my flaws, and wanted to help me. But... because she was a literal she-devil, it could be dangerous was the rest of the Nightstalkers. And then there was this one time Miss Jo signed me up for speed dating..."

He laughed a little at the memory, before finishing his beer.

"I just cannot handle the people of this era, I guess. It's best I just have no strings attached for now, and just have fun. Kind of like you, just with less vampire slaying and more research on what we hunt."

"Just never really seemed fair to me to put someone else through that type of this," Bram says. He didn't want to drag someone into his kind of crazy or putting them in danger.

"I'm with them on the dangerous part there." He definitely had a lack of trust of the supernatural.

"Research is half of what I do," Bram says, "Learned more than a thing of two about it from my gramps."

"You have not seen horror until you have been signed up for "speed dating"." He gave Bram a lopsided grin. "But aye, it is not fair, is it? Putting those we love in harm's way. Aye, being single and having fun while we still can is a better option. No one gets hurt, and we do not have to worry about complications."

"I'd like to learn more, if you would not mind, Bram." Dole smiled at him. "As I said, until I am able to battle, I need to do something. I have plenty of time on my hands, and am most eager to be helpful."

"Very too though I usually just don't even bother," Bram says. Usually only took night off for fun if Blade or Hannibal said something to him.

"No problem at all with that," He says, "Got more than a couple of books that should be helpful."
