Call to the Embassy
General Kendrick stared at the phone for a time, almost as if willing it to give him an answer that would solve everything, but in the end he knew there was no easy solution to this. In war sometimes you had to make sacrifices in order to achieve a more important objective. It didn't get more important than this. Finally with a sigh, he puts in the call to the Genoshan Embassy.

Angelo marches outside with practiced calm, looking around to make sure all was well. Teleportation could be disconcerting, so he didn't want to subject the mother and child to it unless it was absolutely necessary.

Sengai took up the rear, pushing Mrs. Kendrick in her wheelchair, who in turn was holding her baby intently.

To be completely fair, the Colonel was not entirely happy with this either. He respected the General. But he also respected the chain of command, and these were his orders.

He approached the Genoshans and Mrs. Kendrick, making certain to keep his hands away from his weapon, but his posture making it also clear he was in no way supplicating himself.

"My name is Colonel William Abernathy, US Army, and commander of the government's mutant task force, Freedom Force. My orders are to avoid combat if necessary, but we cannot allow you to remove Mrs. Kendrick and her child from American soil. I am asking you to place her into my custody."

Angelo steps up, before Rikki can say or, worse, do anything.

"Good afternoon, Colonel Abernathy. My name is Angelo Bennet, of the Genoshan Embassy. Genosha and it's Embassy of course recognize--" He drops the usual 'and respect' he'd normally throw into formalities "--the American military, and the governor's authority. Has Mrs Kendrick committed any crime that would necessitate her being rendered unto your custody? My associates and I are, at the moment, merely engaged in a social call at General Kendrick's request, as an act of good will.

Unless you have a warrant, Sir, we will ask you to submit your concerns through proper channels to the Embassy."

Sengai took a step closer to Mrs. Kendrick and her wife. He had a feeling this was not going to end well.

The Colonel maintained his military composure.

"This is officially classified as a matter of Homeland Security," he said, "which grants us a certain amount of leeway. In addition, Mrs. Kendrick has not been charged with anything, but is being taken into custody for her protection and that of her child."

He frowned behind his mask. This was almost certainly going to escalate. Intelligence suggested that while Bennet and Senyaka with relatively reasonable individuals (despite some family history of insanity), the Cargill girl rather unstable at best.

"Ascertaining the legitimacy of that may be somewhat difficult, Colonel Abernathy." Angelo replies, giving Rikki a sharp glance. He places a hand gently on Mrs Kendrick's shoulder, as he give his sister a glance.

Soon.

"Unless you can give us something more concrete, we will be escorting Mrs Kendrick and her newborn child elsewhere." He responds firmly, while also trying to hammer home the point that this concerns an innocent and defenseless child.

Dove looked anxiously at the Colonel for instructions. SHe didn't trust the Genoshans per se..but did they have legal cause to do this. She quietly concentrated her powers on to surfaces nearby, ready to deploy them at a moment's notice.

What could be seen of the Colonel's eyes behind his helmet looked genuinely regretful that it had come to this. But orders were orders.

"I'm sorry," he said. "But my orders don't give me a lot of leeway."

He made a slight motion. "Take Mrs. Kendrick into custody."
