Flashback: Shield: Month One
Working in Shield's intelligence division was a lot like his old job at the CSA, but it was a lot more frantic and hands-on. Not that he had any problems with that, but it wasn't a smooth transition when he transferred to ShIELD. He had a pack of files on hand, a list of various infamous mind-controllers. His superior wanted a comparative analysis of how their different abilities worked. While Josh could tell you what they did, and maybe even a little on how they did it, but the higher-ups wanted a more scientific analysis. So they sent him down to the genetics department to meet with a new, but talented doctor who recently joined the department. What was the name? Jessen? Yeah, that was it.

Josh made his way the lab and gave a knock on the door.

She hadn't been here too long, longer than him sure but she still had a lot of people she'd yet to meet. It didn't really concern her too much, they let her do her work and the lab was set up (oh god the facilities here! Lab heaven). Plus, being offered a spot in SHIELD by Fury himself was a good confidence booster which helped her from feeling too out of place among all these agents and long-time SHIELD scientists.

A knock on the door caught her attention and she walked up to it, with her labcoat on and coffee in hand, to go answer it. "Yes?"

Well helloooo-focus.

"Yes, I'm Agent Joshua Hoskins, I'm here to see Dr. Jessen."

Seriously, since when did cute agents show up to her lab door asking for her? She was used to the older stuffy ones or the dull secretarial type.

"Speaking," she smiled. "And hello to you Agent Hoskins. Did you want to come in?" She stepped aside a bit to give him space to enter if he wanted.

This was Dr. Jessen? Daaaamn. Since when did Shield employ attractive young women in its science division?

"Um, sure," he said, making his way inside. "I have a list of various known criminals with the capacity for for controlling people, While we have a general idea how a lot of them work, the higher-ups would like a detailed study into just how physically these powers go into effect."

She took another sip of her coffee and closed the lab door behind him.

"How urgent is this one?" There was a pile of stuff to do, and it seemed it all ended up on her desk. "I've got some of that sort of thing started but you know, depends how much I have to work with." She smirked now. "Now if you had any of these in custody it'd make things so much easier." Did she have clearance for that sort of thing again? She'd have to check the papers again. Ugh all these clearances to consider.

"Nothing immediate, Doctor." Josh thinks on that. "Well..supposedly Headlok's at the Vault, Sauron's at the Raft, and I think we recently took the Voice into custody. I really don't know if you have clearance for any of them. Maybe it's in the files," he said, trying to be helpful.

She chuckled. "I clearly have clearance to see the files, but if I have the clearance to go see them or get samples of them is another issue." She paused and tilted her head at him. "Do you have clearance for that sort of thing, Agent?"

"For what? To the prisoners? I.." Was he allowed tot alk about this? Oh it couldn't hurt, could it? "I sat in with other agents who interviewed the three, but I'm still pretty new to be leading any of them myself."

That was interesting. "Really? Well ideally someone might let me do some tests on them but..." She shrugged, she was still figuring out the paperwork around here so that'd be down the road. "How long have you been around here anyway, Agent?"

"You could talk with Agent Hardwell, he may able to arrange something," he said, again trying to help. "Me? Well..only about a month now. Before that I worked for the CSA."

"Probably will then," she agreed and scribbled the name on a scrap of paper. "Really? Fresh blood then as they say, no wonder I haven't seen you around if you're new to the department. Did you get your office all settled in yet? I've still got to fix up mine. Namely, a sign on the door."

Josh smiled a little nervously. He still didn't know that many people yet and it was nice to be having a non-work conversation.

"I've got the basics put in, but no personal touches yet." He suddenly remembered something. "Oh! I was given a number for to give you if you needed to question-oh crap!" He reached for a piece of paper, but it instead slipped out. "Damn it," Josh muttered, turning around and bending over to pick up the sheet.

"But the personal touches are everything!" She said with sarcastic mock horror.

Oh well that was a view certainly. Lena just took a long sip of her coffee as she appreciated it. "Hmm?" What was he even retrieving again?

"I know, right! You'd think you'd be able to make time."

He mutters for a bit before he finally sees the slip under a desk and picks it up.

"Geez, sorry about that," he apologizes before standing up. He hands her the slip. "That's from my superiors if you have any questions. It's a phone number for one of their offices I think."

"You'll need to make up for that, Agent. Put a nice sign on the door, maybe a poster somewhere if you're so inclined, or a snazzy nametag. I hear agents are all about the nametag."

Lena nodded her thanks to him, for the show more than the paper. "Not even an email," she joked and took the slip of paper from him. Cute, nice ass, and in a department where he'd probably need to come by here once in a while. There had to be a catch.

"I'll have to make it a point to do something along those lines."

"Yeah, seems kind of odd, but maybe there's some top-secret reason why they're not using the net for communication right now. ..Yeah that sounded flimsy," he admits.

"Or they're just stuck in their old ways. At a high level agency like this. Hey, people like that everywhere," she pointed out with a wry smile. "And yes, you should do that. I've got my sign all ready to go. It's to keep people from knocking on this door significantly before noon and without an offering of caffeine. I swear there are too early risers around here. I hope they're only up that early because they haven't slept," she said dryly.

He chuckles. "I'll be sure to bring an offering of coffee the next time I have to knock," he joked. He winces. "I'm not entirely sure. You're right though. it's eerie."

"You are my favourite agent right now," she laughed. "It is very eerie. I can promise you that if I'm up and vaguely functional in the morning, it's only because I just pulled an all-nighter and it hasn't hit me yet."

"Oh? How many agents do you know?" Careful, Hoskins. Don't get too into this girl. Remember what happened the last time you dated a coworker. Josh mentally winced before answering. "I'll keep that in mind, Dr. Jessen."

"Admittedly not too many. Mostly higher ups or whoever they send running here for errands," she smirked at him, since he was clearly in the latter category. "And a few powered agents they've sent to me so I can update their files. But all in all you've made the top of the list in the first meeting. Congrats, have some coffee."

"A woman after my own heart. Thank you." He accept the coffee and his thoughts started rolling. Seriously, she's smart, funny, and pretty, maybe it couldn't hurt. No! You want what happened with Janet to happen on a scale the level of a Shield Division? ..practicality wins out.

She flipped through the files, scanning the relevant parts quickly. "What exactly are you looking for? Strongest effect, longest lasting, most subtle symptoms, or something similar?"
