Father's Day
“Fathers, like mothers, are not born. Men grow into fathers and fathering is a very important stage in their development.” – David Gottesman

Anya grabbed Monkey Boy and together with Dad headed for the zoo in the morning. They had a lunch at one of Dad's favorite Cafes and then holed up in the lab for the afternoon.

She also sent a case of German beer to Logan. He had been like a second father to her over the years.

Dad was in Nova Roma at this time of the year, so Cait called him to wish him a Happy Father's Day. Thank the gods for satellite phones. She also spoke to Grandfather Lucius.

Cait also visited Grandfather William and had lunch with him and Grandmother Madeline.

Father's Day was breakfast at Dad's favorite coffee shop and a chance to talk without Director and Agent roles getting in the way. Sammy gave Nick his favorite whiskey and cigars. They were the only things on his gift list.

Father's Day was Dad, David and him on a bike ride to lunch and pool at a dive bar. If they were lucky, some local with poor self-control would pick a fight with the old man.

It was family togetherness and a valuable training lesson all in one.

With the boss occupied for the day, Sunny took his mother to visit his father's grave. He used his boss' name shamelessly to get a reservation at Per Se in Midtown for lunch. His mother deserved a three-star Michelin rated experience, even on Father's Day.

He spent the afternoon going over her plans for the house he bought her with his last two bonus checks and arranging for a contractor to take care of the work. It was hard to get her to want something for herself. If he didn't act fast she'd talk herself out of it.

Tim sent a case of home brewed beer to his Dad and Grandfather. He was working of course, but he wouldn't forget them.

Father's Day was just another day, but given all the ads for gifts and things, Marlow thought a thank you to Dr. Strange was in order.

She created a spell, a peace dove illusion, and sent it to Martin first, then Orlen to add their magic before it flew to Dr. Strange. She thought it was quite clever. Peace and love, using magic to keep the world safe.

Besides, she didn't think he needed a coffee maker or a tool set. What was this DIY thing the TV kept pushing?

Jenny took extra hours so the other employees could celebrate Father's Day with their dads. Without a memory of her own, it was easier to let the others make new memories with theirs.

Lena had called her dad to talk to him and had made arrangements to go visit him next weekend. There was too much work this weekend to fit in the commute time, he understood. And anyway, restaurants would be less crowded when they did go too.

Dad got breakfast (okay, May did most of the work on that) in bed, and their best behaviour before they all went out as a family for a Father's day picnic.

Aleron met up with Luna first before they went to meet their father. Nice thing about having one who could jog around the world easily was you never waited long and there was little commute involved on their side. He didn't get to see father too often so it was a nice change.

Father's day and Mother's day were terrible holidays for Martin, and he got progressively more quiet and depressed as they approached and all the ads kept reminding him of it. It was was one of the days of the year where he quite actively did not like himself. Just a very constant reminder that'd he'd been the one who had killed his parents.

After adding his magic to Marlow's dove spell, he did what he did every year since it had happened, barricaded himself in his room and tried desperately to not use magic and to think of other things. It was never very effective, but at least these years he could lock himself in his room at the HQ and not the one at the Sanctum that had far too much magic and reminders in the air.

Dr. Strange understood, and Martin always made extra effort the next day to thank him by being incredibly helpful at the Sanctum to show his gratitude for everything Dr. Strange had done for him. He might not be his father, but he was the closest thing Martin had to one right now.

Dolemeck let out a soft sigh as he sat at his writing desk in his Condo. It was Father's Day, a day to celebrate the hard work and efforts Fathers made into raising their young. His adoptive Father never really understood the meaning of the day, no matter how much Venus tried to explain it. And his real father? Well, he was long gone, now.

But none of that mattered. He was taking a new view on life thanks to Argo, and decided he would make cards for both his adoptive Father, and his birth father. Even if one did not understand the purpose and the other had passed away, it was the thought that counted after-all. With his quill in his hand, he gently dipped it into the ink well on his desk, then write his first letter.

"Dear Father,
I wish to thank you for bringing me up these past fourteen years in this era. From your efforts, I have learned that nothing is impossible as long as I continue to work hard. You have also blessed me with a most comfortable life, one many beings could only dream of. For all of this, I thank you. I hope you are well and reading this puts a smile on your face, as you mean a lot to me. I shall try and visit you and Mother soon. In the meantime, please take the utmost care of yourself and Mother. I love you both.
-Dolemeck
"

After carefully reading over the letter, he was happy with it's contents and moved it to the side for the ink to dry before placing it in an envelope to mail. The next letter would be a bit more difficult, however.

Once more, he took out a sheet of paper and dipped his quill in the ink well. Dolemeck had a somber smile upon his face as he then began to write. This time, it was in Old English.

" Father,
I wish I could have told you how much you meant to me when you were alive on this Earth. I am terribly sorry things did not turn out as either of us had hoped. While I know you disowned me after what Morgan Le Fay and Charles did, I never stopped loving you or my family.
My only hope is that you are at rest with the rest of our family in the after-life. I wish I knew what had happened to you, Mother, Charles, and Dayton, but I fear I will never know. What I do know is that I love and miss you all.
I also wish you to know I am doing well in this new era, so please do not worry for me. I hope that perhaps one day, when it is my time to rest from this world I can tell you all of these things, myself. The adventures I had, the people I met, and the new family that has taken me in as their own. I think you would be proud of me, as you raised me to become the honorable man I am today.
-Dolemeck Night of Manhattan, New York City
"

He could feel a tear in his eye as he placed his quill back in it's holder and took a look at the letter in his hands. It was one that could never be mailed, and might never be delivered. But the fact he wrote it down made him wonder if his birth Father saw it from the after-life.

Shaking his head, he allowed the ink to dry on this letter as he did the last. Once it had dried, he placed both letters into envelops. The one to his birth father he placed in a secret box under his bed (one that contain a similar letter he wrote on "Mother's Day" for his birth mother, as well as other letters to his loved ones from a long dead era) and then carried the letter to his Adoptive Father Bob to the mailbox outside of his Condo.

No matter how old he got, he was still someone's son. Adopted or not, he would always have love for his father, both dead and alive. And that is what proved he was more of a human than a demon.

Solver had some time with Grandpa Paladin. Vernique also made sure to tell him, as she'd told him before, that somewhere out there, even if they didn't know much about him, his father was a hero.

Vlad drew something for his dad as a present. Other than that Father's Day meant the usual Rasputin family stuff, which was always fine by him and quite fun. Add in a glitter-free Lockheed to hang out with and even better.

Kalypso spent the day with her mother. Eros was on Titan and Eternals, Earth or Titanian, really didn't celebrate holidays. It was a day for mother and daughter to catch up and shop.

Sean woke Casey up early that morning excited to finally be able to give his da the father's day gift he had made for him in daycare. Casey spent the rest of the day playing with Sean. He also gave his own dad a call later that night after the kid had passed out.

Sadly, Etoile couldn't do anything special for her father. Both her parents were still MIA...this would be the most loneliest year of her life. Regardless, she still got him a card and a gift. She kept in her room for safe keeping, in hopes that he would walk through those doors, in reality it is not that easy. Her continues mission keeps on as she searches for her family.

He disliked his old man during this time. Why? This is the only time Pete Wisdom turns into a flaming hormoned father. Overly sappy, overly emotional -- overly everything. As always, without doubt Flynn goes to visit his father.

This year he bought his old man a vintage case of fine alcohol and pocket watch. Bring on the water works.
