Manhunt
The X-Men had informed Shield of the resurgence of the U-Men and since then Donnelly had feelers out to see how extensive the organization was. While on one of these searches some unexpected information fell into their laps. He quickly put in a call to the X-Men.

He sighs once. "He was secretly running a side clinic that catered to mutants who couldn't risk going to regular hospitals. Word apparently got it. The clinic was attacked by Purifiers, who wanted to kill the mutants he was treating, and members of the Acolytes who wished to secure the patients. A nasty firefight broke out..Hayes' wife and daughter were confirmed casualties. We assumed Hayes was among the deceased as well. We kept it under wraps as Magneto's regime was still new and he claimed these Acolytes were renegades acting against his orders. The US couldn't afford an outright confrontation with Genosha, so Shield buried it."

"I'm not claiming what we did was the right thing," Donnelly replied. "If this really is Markham Hayes, then you're dealing with a man who understands human biology on a level approaching Mr. Sinister. Why he's resurfaced with this new U-Men group..I can't say. However, we believe some recent activity near the Canadian border may be connected with it. A small town called St. Jack's, you won't even find it on a map, has recently gone completely dark. We picked up this:"

Donnelly turns on a recording device. Two voices can be heard.

"Is the operation proceeding, Doctor?" The voice had a slight hint of a Romanian accent.

"Yes, everything is on schedule. The acquisition of the Logan boy's eye has proven beneficial. Amzaing it managed to survive dehydration..."

"Focus, Doctor. What of the subjects?"

"Yes, yes. So far tests are proving fruitful. What off our negations with Miss Kane?"

"Not over electronic communication, Doctor."

"Understood. I'll contact you soon with a new progress report."

Donnelly turns off the tape.

	Sylvie listened, three out of our hands fidgeting, something cold in her stomach. "Okay. I'll run some possible voice identification, check our files to see which Miss Kane that might be, and in the meanwhile, some of us will go take a look at St. Jack's -- don't worry, we don't usually need to rely on normal maps.
