The Battle of the Pyrenees
Derek was glad that with Atlas the way it was it was easy to get in and out of nations the way it was. Just a few hours previous (well, more than that, but not by much), they had been in New York City, deciphering something from medieval French in order to find the location of a sword thought to be lost for eternity. And now they were powering their way through Spain, heading just a few miles south of the Breach of Roland itself.

It was really spooky just how close to history they got here. And now they were searching for something even more important historically.

"Hey, Dole, about where on the map was the location again?"

That something seems to be...nothing. There was nothing at the altar that seemed to have drawn the attention of the former knight. At least, until the altar was cleared and a gaping hole into blackness was obvious. And while the church is indeed quiet, there are very faint scrapings from down below.

Dolemeck walked towards the large gaping hole that was behind the alter. Time could not have created such a hole, which lead to his worst fears being realized. They were beaten to the punch.

He gave a stern frown and jumped into the hole. There was not time to tell Derek what was going on. He had to try and catch up to whoever was down here first before calling Derek in.

As Dolemeck traveled down in the darken corridor beneath the chapel, his eyes glowed a soft green in the darkness, and his right gloved hand began feeling for where he should be going. His sword was tightly held in his left hand, prepared for anything.

Derek only gets the faintest hint of what Dolemeck had found. He couldn't tell what it was, but it was important enough to not let him know before rushing in.

Derek comes in, careful to not knock the door (or remnants of a door) off of its hinges and fly to follow where he can feel Dolemeck to be.

His eyes continued to peer left to right, one hand feeling about a wall, the other still griping his sword as he made his way through the catacombs. Finally, there was literally a light at the end of the tunnel, and he could make out two figures.

"Looters in a place like this..." He muttered under his breath. Dolemeck shadowed ported from where he was standing to right at under the looters, not having surfaced yet as he wished to hear what was going on. He was not going to go into battle like some mindless goon. No, Dolemeck was going to learn as much as he could before striking.

There is the quiet sound of working, of a pick axe, and shovel, before a single word is spoken.

"D'you think the boss is right about this?"

"Hell if I know, man. But we gotta do this for the paycheck."

"It ain't about the paycheck! We're here, sweating our balls off, to find some dinky fucking sword? What the hell? Pro'lly rusted away at this point!"

"It's magic, man. Magic doesn't work that way."

"How the hell d'you even know that?"

The voices are coming from up ahead, near the source of the light.

Dolemeck slowly rose out of the shadows behind the two men. They were too distracted to notice him, it appeared. His once glowing green eyes turned red and he swiftly dispatched the two looters. He hit one in the back of the skull with the butt of his sword, and then he ran the other one through with the blade.

He knew Derek would not agree with his actions, but he told his cousin earlier that those who looted churches were killed for their actions. Turning his nose up at the bodies, Dolemeck continued on to try and find the sword... and the woman who hired these two corpses. He slipped back into the shadows and continued on his way through the catacombs, following any lit torches he could see.

Derek moves as fast as he can, but when he feels Dolemecks actions in his head he feels...disappointment. No...not disappointment, that doesn't sound right. It's...an anticipation of it?

//Dole, what happened? Are you okay?//

"Nothing you need to concern yourself with, young Khan." Dolemeck's tone was somewhat... distant? Perhaps cold was a better term. So far, he could see no other goons. Just a clear path towards a hidden grotto it appeared. He sighed, forming from the shadows within the grotto and gingerly walking about.

The grotto was somewhat beautiful, peaceful... until he saw the woman they had been searching for. Dolemeck's face was expressionless as he started to walk towards her with his bloodied blade extended. A somewhat dark smile forming upon his lips as he walked.

"I am curious as to how you beat us here. I did not think you were that smart, m'lady." His tone of voice was cold, his eyes still glowing red as he remained somewhat ready to attack if she came at him. "Most common folk would have gone directly to the place marker. But you... you came here without having read the book. I must say, I am somewhat impressed."

"What makes you think I didn't? I had, in another time, had access to them. In my own way," came the familiar voice of Lady Phyffe, but there is something very odd about he way she talks, the way she stands. It's not the same as before.

"But you, dear infidel, should know better than to face me."

The sword is brought up, held with much more skill than before.

"I see you have gotten better with your sword, m'lady. Very well, I shall entertain you." He smirked, preparing his sword for battle. Dolemeck started to move slowly towards Lady Phyffe. "Arthur would have been impressed by the stance you use, but he would still demand your head for looting a Chapel. I am sure you are aware of the laws, yes? All looters of any building that is in the name of God are subject to death without mercy. And I plan to give you none."

Derek follows the echo of Dolemecks mind, dodging and weaving between the various walls of the catacombs as fast as he could, trying to make his way to his cousin when he feels...something. He feels Lady Phyffe, but something extra beyond her.

"Dole! I don't think it's just her there!"

Lady Phyffe smirks, bring the sword up into a stance that would undeniably be a sword style of the Saracens.

"By the word of Emir Baghal of Baghdad, I will end you and claim the hated sword of Roland the Butcher!"

There is a dive directly at Dolemeck, the attack harsh, well thought, and aggressive.

"By the word of the next Khan, I shall not allow you to claim that blade!"

The dive shocked Dolemeck, and he tried to side step the attack as quickly as possible. Sadly, he was not fast enough and Phyffe's sword slashed through the arm of his coat, leaving a nasty gash about a foot long. Like last time, the sword brought unimaginable pain to Dolemeck, causing him to cry out in agony.

Though the slash he just took gave him an opening, just as Phyffe landed down from that dive, Dolemeck raised his blade to strike her. Phyfee blocked the attack and the two were now having a more equal sword fight than back at the museum.

The grotto filled with the sounds of clanking steel. This was the type of sword fighting Derek had only witnessed in the movies. In person, it was more epic, more real. Dolemeck was pushing himself through various injuries to keep fighting, just as he did as a Knight for Arthur. He was not giving into the pain he was in, nor the blood he was losing. He was focused and disciplined with his blade, while Phyffe was more wild and angry with hers.

Baghal? Baghal? That doesn't sound right, not to Derek. As he tries to keep back and away from the sword fight, his tries to probe the mind of the woman. It's disjointed, and there's another mind there, one calling itself Baghal, like she claimed-

Wait. Baghal...Baaligent...Baligant? That's Baligant! That's Charlemanges enemy! but wouldn't that mean...?

"Dolemeck! She has Precieuse! She has the blade of Charlemanges enemy!"

"DON'T CALL ME THAT! DON'T STICK YOUR INFIDEL SLURS ON ME!"

The attacks are even harsher now, but the rage is now blinding her. The attacks, while vicious, are becoming sloppier and more wild.

"Is this one of those moments where I say "no duh", Derek?" he hissed. Phyffe was stronger than the last battle. Dolemeck ended up taking a slash from that sword across his face as he attempted to dodge another attack. It hurt, that sword was hurting him so bad... but now, it just enraged him.

As her attacks grew more wild and sloppy, he continued to try and keep a level head and work past all the physical and mental pain that was within him. He was angry, yes, but he was doing his best to let it roll off his back and find his chance to disable Phyffe. He had to take this enemy down, and fast.

It was then that Dolemeck caught an opening. he purposely took another wild slash to his body from Phyffe's sword, just so he could get close enough to ram his own sword through her knee. It was a brutal attack on his part, but he knew it would be enough to stop her and make her drop that cursed sword.

The stab is there, but Lady Phyffe seems to react to the move and, while not stabbed through the knee, gets a deep slice to the back of the knee. She yells in frustration as the cut makes her hobble and collapse, losing grip on the sword and toppling into a heap on what looks to be a crypt.

"You bastard! this will be...wait. Where the bloody hell am I?"

The voice is now in ownership of a crisp British accent.

Dereks not taking any chances. He's diving for Phyffe and using his immense strength to hold her still to make sure she can't pull anything.

"Dole, you okay?"

"I am cut the bloody fuck up! How do you think I am?!" His foot kicked the sword Phyffe was using away from her, causing it to slide right into the grotto itself. He was taking no chances of her taking up arms once again. Not after the injuries he suffered.

Dolemeck's face was somewhat dark, and not because he had blood running down it. He pointed the very tip of his sword at Phyffe's heart, his red eyes glaring at her. The next words that came out of his mouth would send a chill down his cousin's spine, and perhaps that of Lady Phyffe as well.

"On behalf of Arthur, Ruler of Camelot, I pronounce sentence you to death for looting a building devoted to our Lord and Savior. Do you have any last words you wish to be remembered by?"

"You will do no such thing."

Derek locks eyes with Dolemeck. He's dead serious.

"You will not do anything of the sort. Do you hear me? As your Khan, do you understand?

"She broke the laws... she broke the sacred laws of my King!" He yelled at Derek, before grasping his head and backing away some. He was in service to the Khan, now. His King was long dead... his time was gone. Society had new rules, new rulers. There were so many emotions running through him, just like at the museum. Everything he was holding back was trying to break through again.

Falling to his knees, Dolemeck just looked at the two. A somewhat emotionless, blank look on his face now showed. His eyes also reverted back to their green color as he spoke softly.

"Aye, Khan. I understand."

"Khan? What do the Mongols have anything to do with the, oh to hell with this!"

There is a shove against Derek, one that barely registers to the strong Atlantean...but it's enough for her to get her arm out and gesture, resulting in a flash of light, a stumbling Derek, and empty air where Phyffe used to be.

"Damn it!"

The flash and the empty air leaves Derek out of balance, and he places a hand down on a crypt to steady himself.

The crypt, however, decides not to comply and the lid moves, to reveal a glittering sword underneath it's heavy stone covering.

"Holy crap...Dole...is this what i think it is?"

"Aye, Khan, it is." He spoke in a dead tone, finally standing up with his shoulders slumped over a bit. "That is Roland's blade. You can do with it as you please, as you are Khan. Toss it into the grotto to be lost forever like the blade that woman held, bring it to a museum like the Louvre or MET, give it to Atlas to watch over, I do not care. I have no say in the matter. It is all up to you, future Khan."
