Casual Diplomatic Dinner (for Nicolai and Vincent).
Hans Keller was a good man. His family said so. The Young Master -- the old Young Master -- had said so. His teachers had said so. Representing Latveria in New York wasn't the easiest job in the world, but he wasn't being punished for anything. So Hans did his best.
Some international relationships were more palatable than others. The Symkarians one can at least ask to dinner. So he had. And the younger Young Master as well. Hans really didn't know what to think of the boy. At least he didn't have to worry about him that much; he was apparently ...moving to New Orleans for some reason? But he was coming tonight.

Vincent blinks slowly, once, but doesn't call Hans on anything. It is Not Done. Not in a situation like this, at least. He has at least been taught that much.

"A nuclear arsenal is still the most universally recognized threat a nation can keep readily on hand." Vincent says drily. "I certainly respect your mother's opinions, but I think history speaks to the American government failing in rather spectacular fashion when it does try to deal with powered humans, threats or otherwise." He shakes his head.

"Whatever our disagreements," Vincent figures he can say that much and not violate protocol too much, it's not as if his estrangement from his father was a secret "--I can at least say that my father has never tried to make policy on genetics in his--our country." He corrects himself immediately.

"Yes a nuclear arsenal is indeed a great form of deterrent," Nicolai says, "But if it can not be proper secured to ensure it can not be used against you like the two recent incidents than it might be more dangerous than it is worth. But regardless total nuclear disarmament is not likely to ever occur."

"Yes their past has not been to good in that regard but to say that they should not be prepared to do with powered threat would be foolish. Standard military tactics generally are not effective against those types of threats."

"Indeed. There is a great deal that the American government seems to do by halves in terms of security, unwilling to be one thing or the other. There is little to be done about it, for the most part."

Vincent purses his lips briefly, wishing he had more authority to speak, but then pushing the thought aside.

"In lighter topics... how are you lately, Your Highness?"

"Indeed there is little to be done about that," Nicolai says with a nod.

"I have been well. Business as been good," Nicolai says, "Which means Symkaria has been doing good."

Hans isn't, as it happens, censoring anyone. He feels what he feels: America should either decide to be in total control of its' citizens lives or not. Instead it seems to crack down sloppily and at random, or on some classes of citizen and not others. Hans is, of course, a fan of enforced monarchy, but he's done his best to study democracy. He's not sure how a semi-enforced democratic republic is supposed to work.

But this is a much more pleasant topic. "Indeed, that particular state of affairs seems to work quite well for Symkaria." Not that Latveria can do that. Far too isolationist.

Vincent smiles and nods. "Good to hear. My brother and I have a few projects in motion at the moment that should yield beneficial results within the next year. I've also nearly completed my first doctorate, along with an additional undergraduate degree. I mean, it's in the greater humanities, but it's been a pleasant diversion amidst my real coursework..."

"Indeed it has these kinds of trouble breed a lot of good security work. Which is very good for our economy."

"What kinds of projects are these," Nicolai asks, "Or are you not allow to take about them." He might not have the scientific mind to create or would on such projects himself but looking through SSI's research and development work always had him on the looking out for cutting edge science.

"Nothing so secret. Mostly personal augmentive devices. Exoskeletons for recovery from severe trauma. Designed to be less bulky than traditional life support or combat armors." He pauses, then gives a faint grunt. "Armor is something of a family tradition, after all.

Beyond that--" He cheers up again. "A little fine-tuning of a pet project I've had on the back burner for a while. Some work with nanites designed to preserve historical structures without the need for disassembly first. Probably never going to be financially viable outside of a utopian society, but it's a regular diversion."
