Darkest Night
Derek and Dolemeck managed to get out of France before Venus and Bob had arrived to check on their adopted son, and before that insane woman from the Louvre made it to New York City, it appeared. Dolemeck was in awe at the sheer size of the museum before him. Never had he felt so small before! Now that he was properly dressed in a white dress shirt, black slacks, black work boots, and a black vest, Dolemeck looked over at Derek with a raised eyebrow.

"Do we just march in, or do we have to buy tickets, first? I doubt they will take us seriously if we tell them that a crazed woman is after a priceless artifact."

"I suppose you are right... and thank you for covering my share." Dolemeck looked embarrassed as Derek paid for his ticket. But that embarrassment soon left as they began to travel about the first floor of the MET. It is said that you cannot see everything in a single day in this museum, so the two had to find the exhibit as quickly as possible.

After passing the Roman Gardens Exhibit, they finally came to the Arms and Armory Exhibit. It was massive! Armor and weapons dating back to almost the start of time. For Dolemeck, his eyes just went wide as he realized this exhibit was probably the size of a football field or more.

"This... shall be challenging." He said, walking towards some German armor from the fourteenth century. As Dolemeck walked down the line of armor, he finally came to a glass display housing a tabard from England. His body started to tremble, eyes widening, and his heart racing as he saw this tabard. Before Derek knew it, Dolemeck had collapsed down to the ground before the tabard, clutching his head with his bandaged hand.

The darkness in his mind was finally receding like the waves of a the ocean at the shore. All of those images that have plagued him since he got his human body were starting to finally make sense. they were finally beginning to connect... and he could not take it.

"This is... no...."

The sad thing is is that with the size of the exhibit, Derek initially went another direction. He wasn't even aware of what had happened until he heard the thump of Dolemeck hitting the floor.

"Dole! Dole! Is it another thing? Everyone, back up! He's-" quick lie quick lie to cover them and clear folks out. "He has epilepsy! Everyone give him space, now!"

Once he said that, Derek drops to his knees right next to Dole.

"C'mon, Dole, what's going on?"

Dolemeck was a complete mess, his body was trembling badly, and it did look like he was in fact having a seizure. He could barely hear Derek over the mental images that were assaulting him. Not just mental images, but memories... an entire life that was over a thousand years ago.

Everything was being drowned out by what was going on in his mind. The security guard calling for paramedics, his cousin trying to get him to talk to him, the gawkers who turned about to look at him. Everything just faded out and he was lost.

"I know you have proclaimed your innocence to the King, boy. But he did not believe your story, so why should I? If your mother were around to see this... she would be so ashamed of you. Her son, a deviant! You are no longer part of our family. You are dead to us and we are dead to you. Go on your quest for the Queen, and NEVER return here. You no longer have a family and as far as I am concerned, you NEVER had one."

"F-father..." Dolemeck spoke out loud, tears streaming down his eyes. He reached out for a figure that was not even there. Right before his cousin could say anything, and way before Dolemeck came to his senses, the sound of feet rushing in could be heard, and the woman from their last encounter appeared.

"Hell, you bunch again!"

Lady Phyffe is aghast at her luck in this. Twice in a row, and it's these two again! At least this time she didn't have to worry about the scrawny one. So there's a smirk.

"Well, looks like your jumping friend has already given up. I suggest you do the same, boy."

"Dolemeck, you are one of the best Knights I have ever seen. Most loyal to the crown, and devoted to being an honorable man. I believe you, I never stopped believing in you."

Dolemeck slowly rose to his feet, his eyes narrowed as he looked at Lady Phyffe. His face was emotionless as he walked over to a glass case and punched his bandaged hand through it, grabbing a thirteenth century broad sword that was inside on display. He began to walk towards Lady Phyfee, his eyes narrowed and a bright red. He cared not that he set off the alarm, he cared not he had a priceless artifact in his hand. His main focus was to stop this woman right here and now.

"I have had enough of you, woman! You dishonor that sword. You dishonor all swordsmen! And for that, I sentence you to death on behalf of Arthur and his crown. You shall not be allowed to leave here with another sword, or your life!" Dolemeck shouted, but not in English. It was in Old English, a long dead language. He held the sword like a proper swordsmen, his face more serious more... adult like than anyone had ever seen. He remembered who he was now, and he knew what he had to do.

Derek gets up to put himself between the two when Dolemeck speaks. And while it sounds...familiar, he can't place just what the hell it sounds like. And the confusion deepened when Dolemeck busted the glass on a case and drew a sword like a practiced pro.

"Dolemeck? What's going on?"

"Oh yes, very tough of you, but lets see just how good you are with it," Phyffe hissed as her goons, who had been hidden among the crowd, began to move on one of the exhibits, a large book of history hand-written by monks from Ripon Monastery.

Dolemeck shoved Derek out of the way and went in to attack Phyfee directly, he started with an overhead swing, and if that was blocked, he would kick her in the stomach to try and throw her off balance. He was furious, and focused on her. She dishonored the blade, she was evil like the being who turned him into a demon. He was going to stop her, and he did not care how it was done.

"Is that all you have!? Nothing but talk and insults!? You can barely even use that sword properly! Pathetic! This battle is beneath me, a Knight in Arthur's court!" He barked at her in Old English, not caring if the wound in his bandaged hand split and started to bleed. Dolemeck continued to try and strike Phyffe with the sword he broke out of the museum case. "You shall get no mercy from me!"

Derek was not at all used to his cousin acting this way. At all. But it was clear to Derek Dolemeck had this under control.

So the headband was slipped on and he turned towards the goons.

"Okay mooks...guess what? You have a choice in this matter: you give up now or you give up after I've beaten you several times over. What sounds good to you?"

"I have no idea what you're saying, but know this: I have a sword that can cleave mountains! I'll cut you in two!"

But there was frustration in her voice. She really didn't know how to use a sword like this, and Dolemecks attacks press her to make wild swings that don't connect. But she regrips the sword and swings hard at Dolemeck.

The minions are unsure of what to do. There are six now, as opposed to the two in the Lourve, but it appears two decided to take Dereks offer and ran off down the corridor towards the exit. The rest try to find a strategic place to attack Derek from.

Dolemeck easily deflected the sword, as if it were nothing. His eyes remained narrowed as he kept countering every wild swing that was made his way. Something he should not have been able to do, if the sword she claimed to have had was the real deal.

This sword fight was very one sided, to the point Dolemeck could just yawn and fight with one hand behind his back if he wished to. Instead, he remained on his toes, trying to avoid getting hit with her blade through the wild swings, and just keeping her busy.

"The blade you own is a lie! While it can burn me, it is easily deflected by this sorry excuse of an iron sword!" He continued to yell in Old English. His voice was more accented than before, and quite angry. Something Derek had never heard before from Dolemeck. "You are not even fit to clean the stalls of my King's horses! You should go back to whatever village you came from and stick to fighting with twigs!"

More of the crazy Not Quite English from Dolemeck? That is...that's weird. But right now he has a job to do and Dolemeck is doing a damn fine job with whatever her name is.

So, time for some goon punting!

And one of them quite literally is while Derek inflicts upon the other three remaining mental white noise, interfering in their ability to do...much of anything.

"This-" Parry away at the attacks, but she still gets pushed back. "Isn't-" The frustration is extremely visible on her face. "Possible!" And with that, she launches a desperate swing, one that put all her strength behind it but leaves her very open to a disarm.

He took that opening to disarm Phyfee, knocking the sword right out of her hands and into the air. Dolemeck was quick to catch the blade in mid air, despite how it burned his skin and brought him pain. Now holding both swords, he crossed them, making them look like an open pair of scissors. Without a second thought, Dolemeck rushed Phyfee, pinning her against the wall and driving the blades into the wall, one on either side of her neck.

Dolemeck held the handles of the blades tightly, with a single move, he could slit her throat or go as far as to cut her head off. But he refrained, despite his desire to destroy her for her crimes. He snarled a little, eyes still a bright red in color, and his pupils looking like that of an animal, just two black slits.

"Your sword is not the one you claim, liar!" He growled, looking Phyfee straight in the eyes. His language having switched back from old English to English... but it was heavily accented. "It burns me, but a pathetic Iron Sword can best it! As much as I desire to make you a head shorter than you really are... I will show you some mercy on behalf of my King. Stop this foolish quest of yours and surrender to police... or else."

Two more of the goons go down real quick when Derek hears Dolemeck speak in...well, not the normal tones he normally does but something much closer to what Derek was used to.

"Hey, Dole, you back to normal?" Derek called as he grabbed the last one by the scruff of his shirt and lifted him off the ground.

"Oh, you fancy yourself a knight, I see. Well, your chivalry-"

Lady Phyffe opens her hands and dolemeck is subjected to a strong pushing force that wants to launch him head over heels backwards. But it is especially focused on the hand weilding the sword.

"-is appreciated but stupid."

With another motion of her hands, the sword that so stings Dolemeck, wherever it may land will be drawn inexorably to it's owner.

The last mook reaches into a pocket and pulls out something small and metallic. He lets it roll. It's what anyone familiar with explosives would recognize as a Flash-bang grenade.

He was taken back by the sudden force push that Phyffe threw his way. he literally was thrown head over heels. Dolemeck landed on his shoulders quite hard, giving out a loud cry of pain as he landed.

Before he could get up to retrieve his sword that he was using, the flash bang grenade went off. Dolemeck was left coughing and now blinded from the light and smoke the grenade created. He placed his hand over his mouth, coughing violently before being able to shout at Phyfee and her goons.

"COWARDS!"

Good news: with his Atlantean physiology, Derek escaped the brunt of pain that most everyone else was feeling due to the "bang" part of the flash bang grenade.

Bad news: the flash happened pretty much right in front of his face, and there was no protection from very bright lights that being Atlantean allowed.

So it takes a bit for Dereks sight to get back to normal.

"Oww...Ow...ow. Dolemeck? You okay?"

Dolemeck looked over, seeing the book they were protecting was still in it's case, but when Derek rushed over to him, he shoved him away. It was something he would not normally do. But deep down inside, he was hurting. He was hurting more than the injuries he suffered from the blast back and sword.

"Leave me!" He shouted in Old English. before Derek could react, Dolemeck rushed back to the sword he was using and grasped it, shadow porting out of the museum with the artifact... and leaving Derek to possibly know where he was going.

"...ummmm...Dolemeck?"

That's all he's able to get before the teleporting out.

"Okay, not good man...um...he does that?"

That's all Derek says before he rockets out of the MET at full speed, trying to figure out where Derek might have gone. Since they were in New York, Derek could probably guess that Dolemeck was at his apartment.

Dolemeck's apartment was a wreck. He had turned over bookcases in what appeared to be an utter rage, unlike any Derek had ever seen from his cousin. He finally found Dolemeck in the middle of the floor of his living room, just crying brokenly. The thirteenth century sword he had taken from the museum at his side.

He had never shown such raw emotion with Derek before, or anyone for that matter. He was just a complete mess right now.

"Uhhhh..."

Derek lets his presence be known, even if it is in such an awkward way. But he has never once seen Dolemeck this way at all. And Derek knew Dolemeck knew the rules for them being on the surface they way they were. Stealing an 13th century iron sword from the Metropolitan Museum of Art wouldn't have been part of the deal.

"Am I okay?" Dolemeck asked, his whole body shaking as he lifted his head up to look at Derek. Most of his face was covered by his long black hair. It was just pooling about him like ink. "No, I am not. Everyone I ever loved, the world I knew, the world I grew up in does not exist anymore! My tabard is on display in some museum, my legacy has been reduced to a wretched story, and now I discovered I was not in limbo for one hundred and fifty years... it was over a THOUSAND!"

He tried to prevent himself from yelling too loudly, and fought hard to control his crying before Derek. Dolemeck forced himself to sit up on the floor, still crying brokenly like some child.

"It's all gone. Camelot, my King, my mentor, the Princess, and my family. All before I could ever clear my name. They all DIED thinking I was a monster. Some... some deviant!"

"How is that awesome!?" Dolemeck glared up at Derek, tears streaming down his face. "Everyone I knew, everyone I ever loved has been DEAD for a thousand years. All before my name was cleared. My family, my beloved, my King all died BELIEVING I was a rapist!"

It took strength Dolemeck barely had left in his body to stand up. he staggered about his room, looking at the mess of books on the floor, before picking one up and tossing it to Derek.

"My legacy has been tainted. All history remembers of me is "The Wife of Baths". A tale of how a Knight in Arthur's court raped a maiden and then was spared death by the Queen, only if he could discover what it was that women of that day and age desired. He goes on a quest to find what it is women desire, only to find an old hag who gives him the answer for a price. he returns with the answer and is spared his life. But then the hag shows up and requests the Knight's hand in marriage. He has no choice but to comply to save face. He goes home with the hag, who turns out to be a beautiful woman in disguise and lives happily ever after."

Dolemeck frowned, staggering about the room, turning over another bookshelf in a rage he screamed out in anger and pain, almost howling.

"Half of that story is true! I never raped a woman in my life! I was completely chaste in order to try and prove my worth as a Knight and worthy of the hand of King Arthur's daughter, Princess Leigh! I was framed, tortured, disowned by my own family, and then forced to marry an old hag in a public ceremony!" He was still in tears, looking back at his cousin with his lip quivering quite badly. "When the Hag and I got to our marital home in the swamp... as that is where King Arthur banished me, she revealed herself to not be a hag, but Morgan Le fay, the half sister of Arthur. She framed me with the help of my brother Dayton, in order for her son to marry the Princess and become next in line for the throne. And now, I was married to her. She desired to consummate our relationship, and vowed to be loyal to me. I refused and told her my heart and chastity belonged to Princess Leigh. This angered her, enough that she shattered my soul with her magic and turned me into a genderless demon. All because I "obviously lacked the balls and cock to be a man worthy of Morgan Le Fay"."

His crying had not stopped as he told Derek everything about him. It did not stop when his legs finally gave out and he collapsed once more back to the floor.

"I thought my time in Limbo was only one hundred and fifty years, but time is so different there than here. I spent over a thousand years in Limbo, until the day a crack formed, and I escaped. The Goddess Venus found me in some library, reading various books. I had no memory of who I truly was, anymore. But she somehow knew I was not a true demon. Venus knew I was a cursed being who's heart was still filled with love. She restored my body to it's original form and pieced together my soul shard by shard. She could not restore my memory, nor could she return me to my time. Instead... she gave me to Bob and his Venus to raise, knowing they always wanted a child."

"Look, Dole..."

It hadn't come out right. Lets try this again, from the top.

"I didn't mean that as cool. We've grown up together...sort of, and you didn't know who you were. You do now! And that's my point! You didn't know and now you do! And I hate to hear that you had to suffer at the hands of someone like Morgan Le Faye, but unless you can whip out a time machine there isn't a thing we can do. What we can do, right now, is acknowledge who you were: Dolemeck Night, wrongly accused man. You're now Dolemeck Night, badass shadow-knight of Atlas that's going to stop a crazy woman with a sword and ensure that more history isn't stolen and rewritten. That is what is cool."

And this is said with force. he knows that any other time he would be lenient with his cousin, but there was a deadline and the issue of the technically stolen 13th century sword.

"You do not understand... I do not expect you to, Derek." Dolemeck finally got himself under some control, using the sleeve of his shirt to wipe his tears. "I feel like I have been robbed for a second time. I just feel... I feel so empty, Derek."

Dolemeck's eyes then moved to the sword he had "stolen" during his emotional outburst. "I need this to combat that woman. I'm useless without it, Derek. I need a good sword. And after I take her out... I do not know what to do with myself."

It would be disrespectful to who you were to have something bad happen to it now. We'll get you a sword," Derek said, smiling sadly. The sword was never his. It was made many years after he was sent to limbo... but it looked like the one he used to have. With much reluctance, he gave it back to Derek.

Dolemeck knew that Derek was the voice of reason at this moment. He wanted to curl up in a ball somewhere, but there was a mad woman on the lose they had to deal with. he had to put his self pity and pain aside, and become the hero he always wanted. The hero he once was.

After handing over the sword, Dolemeck got up and headed for his walk in closet, slamming the door shut as he entered it. If they were going to go out into battle, he would need something more suitable to wear.

Derek holds the sword as gingerly as he can. He didn't like to see his cousin this upset at anything, and he needed to find something, anything, to get his head on straight, at least for the moment.

Derek waits for him, and whenever he is done, Derek just listens for the creaking of the door. Without looking at Dolemeck, he just holds the sword and says a few simple words.

"I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but you're doing the right thing."

He nodded his head, slipping a pair of black gloves on his hands. He continued to step through the mess of his apartment until he got to the front door and opened it for Derek, allowing him to exit first. He said nothing about the mess as the two made their way back to the museum.

The entire time, Dolemeck was silent.. or just distant from Derek. Once the two made it back to the MET, and managed to get not only the guards to let Dolemeck back in, but get them access to the book. Well, access to the book in a secure area of the museum, reserved for examinations of artifacts and preservation of them.

"You cannot read it" He told Derek in a matter of fact tone. His gloved hands carefully moved over the book, gingerly flipping the pages as he gave Derek a reason as to why he could not read it. I was in search of my mentor, Lord Gawain, and had to walk into a whore house to get him. I went into the wrong room and was pelted by some fresh fruit. Derek frowns a bit. He didn't mean that at all, but it just came out more flippant than he intended.

"Aye, that we must." Dolemeck spoke quietly, walking out of the room before Derek. He was unsure of how to feel right now. His main focus was to stop that women, save the sword... and then what? Probably find a dark space to curl up in for a few days.

"I hate Spain." He muttered under his breath as he continued to walk.
