The Great White North
A blizzard covered northern Canada in white, but it wasn't the only thing causing problems. Alpha Flight was correct when they mentioned that the Great Beasts were in fact more than one and usually showed up at the same time.

Tanaraq left a path of destruction in his wake as he made his way toward the more populous areas.

Not too far from Taranaq, Kolomaq left a similar path of destruction in his wake.

"Well, you stole my intro..." Mason smirks at his girlfriend, as he starts coming in at yet another angle. He pulls a flask of water out and sticks his finger in it, altering the composition caaaarefully. Then, he corks it and flings it at Kolomaq. Think nitroglycerin, but angrier.

Kolomaq turned to see who dared before Nim's blow rocked him, distracting him long enough for Alex's blow to hit. The Great Beast snarled in anger, about to react when Mason's makeshift bomb went off, covering the whole area in smoke and snow. At first nothing could be seen, but then the dust settled...

"Was that all?" The Beast asked, before roaring, summoning up an immense blizzard that not only made it hard to see, but also with powerful winds blowing it. Kolomaq however, was not so impeded. He dashed through the storm, intending to come down on Nim with a powerful axehandle blow.

Nim's eyes need almost no light to see, being adapted to being able to see on the ocean floor, even without her sonar. But the snow played havoc with both of those things, leaving only her other senses to keep her stready.
She heard the footsteps and took to the air, catching enough of the blow to send her flying into a snowbank, without taking the fullness of the hit.

Time to go bigger. Alex shifted into the balrog and attacked with fire and claws.

As Alex swings at their enemy, Mason shoves his hands against the ground and beneath the snow; a destabilized swath of ground opens up, ripping right underneath Kolomaq's feet.

Kolomaq turns to face Alex.

"You play at being a Great Beast, mortal!? Kolomaq moves to face Alex head-on..that is until he stumbles from mason's manipulation of the ground. This allows Alex to get strikes in, however the sheer cold around Kolomaq keeps the flames from hurting too much. "I will feast on your frozen bones!" Kolomaq rights himself, moving to counterattack Alex.

From some ways off, Lucas can feel the pulls on the spirits of wind, air, snow and ice. As soon as that control slips from distraction, Lucas begins doing his own work with the spirits, trying to free them from the Great Beast's control to help them abandon him at a critical moment.

His power isn't nearly the same over snow and ice - but he's also not fighting alone, counting on Alpha Flight to help buy him time and keep Kolomaq from noticing the slow and subtle work.

Nim exploded out of the snowdrift, shaking the snow from her hair.

She lifted up, higher, looking for a place to strike.

Alex roared and made the flames go higher. He attacked with fire and claws.

"Light him up, Alex!" Mason sets another pit-trap, only this time he fills the hole beneath the snow with tar, mixed with kerosene.

At this point Kolomaq is absorbed with fighting Alex, willing the storm to whittle away at Alex's flames while he attacked him physically. Still, patches of Kolomaq's fur had caught on fire. The Great Beast doesn't see the pit and his foot plunges in, the flames igniting the pool. Kolomaq roared in fury, willing the snow instinctively to put out the flames, but his formal control is lessened by the pain.

The more Kolomaq is distracted, the more and more bold Lucas is in communing with the spirits, trying to draw the spirits of snow and ice away and deny the Beast control of the element, bit by bit.

Fire didn't hurt Alex in this form and he followed Kolomaq into the pit. He kept attacking despite the wounds he was taking.

Not being able to get close without succumbing to the flames herself, Nim grabbed a huge boulder and threw it at Kolomaq.

Mason moves in closer, making the existing pitfalls deeper and deeper, consuming the beast in flame and sticky tar.

Kolomaq tried to summon more ice and snow to counter Alex's flame, but found himself stymied. To add to his frustrations the pit continued to deepen. He roared in frustration and rage..and that's when the boulder hit him in the face. Even more of the Beast's concentration was lost as the storm waned in intensity.

Feeling the loss of concentration and resistance, Lucas begins the ritual, trying to draw spiritual power away from Kolomaq himself, beginning the ritual effort to decrease his power, and eventually, return him to sleep.

Mason couldn't help himself, he actually let out a bark of laughter as the beast got hit in the face with a rock. Headshots were just that satisfying. Seeing Alex's approach, he adds kerosene to the mix again.

"What..what is this treachery!?" The storms did not obey his will, and his limbs felt..heavier. The mortals' attacks were proving more effective. "No..can't..be," but it was. The Great Beast's eyes drooped shut as he fell back and collided with the ground, a huge thud echoing.

That, meanwhile, is Lucas' next step. With the beasts no longer fighting him, or Alpha Flight, the young shaman begins calling to the earth spirits, asking them to take the beasts back into the stone embrace and sleep, trying to convince the forces of nature to slumber until the next disturbance - and treating them with all the respect the Great Beasts are due, no recrimination or judgement, simply quietly assuring them that this is not their time.
