Fortune Favors the Bold
Night was settling over the city and in S.H.I.E.L.D. Central the night shift was just coming on duty and settling in for the night. It looked like it was going to be a rather quiet night. Just like last night, the one before that, the one before that and so on.

It was just for a moment.

In Valentina's office, Sammy closed her eyes and leaned back in the chair. Her head ached a little from the long hours and little sleep. Dinner was barely touched on the tray in front of her. With Mom not feeling well and sleeping so much these days, Sammy had been happy to pick up the slack and give Val a break. Dad and Mikel encouraged her participation and it did fill up the time. Sammy was steeped in S.H.I.E.L.D. protocol and procedure. It was doubtful that anybody outside the executive offices knew she was filling in for her mother.

	Once he had a scent in his memory, he could follow it through some really disgusting places. This being an office building for the most part, it wasn't difficult at all. "I get that we don't want to hurt her, but just how do you move faster than somebody can think time to a stop? Unless you know a trick, it'll be the distract-and-knock-out move." 	The mist...creepy as hell. But Toni didn't seem to be worried about it, so Jack let it go to focus on the objective. Take down the time manipulator. Maybe Misty had a better idea than surprise to beat this one. He sank into an easy crouch, billy club in hand. A better choice than the short sword for the moment. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The door striking the wall brought Sammy upright and triggered a time pause against her will. The man nearly upon the desk was familiar, and not on the list of those placed in protective custody. Jack Murdock hadn't made it into the main files, so Dad and Mikel didn't realize they had one more out there to protect.

In her rush to get Jack to the floor and handcuffed, she didn't notice the mist in the air, or look outside the door for another attacker. She released time and reached for the comm to get the guards here to take the detainee to a cell with the others.

	Toni was already working on the handcuffs, disassembling them with a wave of her hand. She turned her power on the comm system itself, causing the wires to break through the casing, to wrap themselves around Sammy's arm. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Quick, yes. Painless, no. Stunned Sammy saw stars through the pain, and then blackness. She slumped against the desk with her wrist still entangled in the comm wires, her arm twisting unnaturally as her body sagged to the floor. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
