It's only the slightest hurt microexpression when he stops it, then she listens, and takes a breath, speaking evenly.

"Okay, this conversation is going to take complete sentences, Manny. So here's the thing, if you'll do me a favor: we finish our food, and you go to your room and try to get your thoughts in order while I put the dishes away. I'll come by and we'll try to hash this out. Okay?"
