A Day of Thanks
"Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart." - Seneca

In America today is a day for being thankful for the things in people's lives. Today was a day to celebrate family, friends, prosperity and health with food, family and friends. It is a time to reflect on what is important us and to recognize the gratitude we hold for having those things in our lives.

Thanksgiving at the Defenders compound saw enough food to feed a small army, or the Defenders. They had large appetites. Three turkeys, two prime ribs, two ducks and a roasted pig comprised the meat portion of the meal. For sides there were ten pounds of mashed potatoes, a large pan of stuffing, corn on the cob, broccoli, carrots and butternut squash. Homemade bread and rolls were strategically placed around the table. Dessert was apple pies, blueberry pies, pumpkin pies, fruit salad and a large batch of chocolate chip cookies.

Syd was extremely thankful for all the things she had in life. Her sister Bryn, Zoey, the Defenders and her two jobs.

Another midgard holiday? At least this one had a feast and didn't seem to center around only one food. "Lady Sydney, what ist the occasion for this again? Not that I shouldst ever complain of an excuse for a feast..."

"Doth thou not do that every day Lady Sydney?" Why a specific day? Mortals had odd customs.

At Svalin's entrance with the mead, he grins. "Asgardian mead, the cornerstone of any good feast. Well met Lady Svalin," Brandr bows.

"Not all do," Syd said. "They should though, but it is nice to have a day where we can gather with friends and loved ones and have a feast."

Any holiday at the Xavier Mansion was always insane. Lyta had put herself on kitchen duty, helping with the cooking in anyway that she could, and making sure that no one tried to swipe any apple pie or turkey legs before it was all out on the table.

Cait was on dessert duty. She instructed her helpers and in the end they made apple pies, pumpkin pies and even a cherry pie. Cait made some baked apples as well.

She was thankful for her family and her Xavier's family.

Vlad wasn't really a cook but made a great minion and helped out where he could. When the pies were in the oven he disappeared for a bit and returned with a visitor.

Leaning against the counter, Vlad waits for the pies to finish while munching on extra apple pieces and feeding some to the purple dragon perched on his shoulder. "You've got to ask for your own piece of pie though Lockheed, the slices aren't big enough for us to share."

Misha was a royal taste tester! He made passes through the kitchen to see what he could get into, making jokes and generally trying to entertain.

And Lyta will playfully swat him as he passes by her to taste-test. "Hey. Not even Your Highness gets a sneak peak." She does pass him a beer, though.

Sersi was off somewhere and her other relatives didn't celebrate Thanksgiving so Kal was at the Avengers mansion. Her cooking was passable, but she volunteered to be an extra pair of hands in the kitchen taking direction from Jarvis and the other Avengers staff.

Its not that Buck doesn't appreciate the holidays, or have any family. Its that, really, as a Rogers, the Avengers are his life and his family. He helped with the preparation, then mostly got out of Jarvis' way until things were set - besides, there's football to be watched!

Thanksgiving was spent in the only real home Sammy had ever known with her parents - the helicarrier. She volunteered for monitor duty so another agent could spend the holiday with their family. When the shift was over, she'd have a late dinner with her parents and an early breakfast with any of her teammates still around.

She kicked back with her mug of coffee and a plate of cookies from the cook.

Tim spent Thanksgiving in his lab. His parents decided to go away this year and Gramps was working as always. He did take some time to head to the Mess and get some turkey with the trimmings. He grabbed a second plate and went to deliver it to Sammy.

Valeria loved Thanksgiving. She was thankful to have a loving and supportive family, not just on Thanksgiving, but every day. And that's what her team was to her. Family.

Valeria was helping out her mom and Cassie in the kitchen, and making sure that Miranda and Scotty stayed out of too much trouble.

Anya elected to stay in Cambridge for the holiday. Mom and Dad were heading to the Avengers mansion with Nick for dinner and Anya wanted to spend it with her team.

The Thunderbolts' chef made a fantastic dinner and Anya was thankful for everything that she had in her life.

Martin was quite happy. The chef made awesome food, he was on a great team, and Marlow had even sent a wonderful turkey illusion that had fooled some of his teammates, making the whole thing even greater.

In return he'd sent her one of his blue balls of light that'd hover near her and randomly, or on her cue, burst into sparkles like the mini firework it was, before the sparkles fell to form turkey shapes. It accomplished all the stuff he wanted: firework fun, practice of fine control, and making people notice Marlow more. Which they needed to do.

While he was regularly thankful for his magic, thanksgiving meant he could be thankful with food. And that was always better.

Kelly spends much of the day watching the parade in New york... through the scope of her sniper rifle. Its the only way to watch a procession.

She doesn't actually shoot anyone involved. Its more just... she could. Its good enough. When all is done, she heads back for the TBolts digs to see what's left of the Thanksgiving feast.
