At the still point of destruction, at the center of the fury
Charles Xavier, head of the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning and mentor of the X-Men, had been busy in the recent days. Together with an old friend, Erik Lehnsherr, the two of them pushed the anti-human groups into action. Attacks on humans started happening all around New York City.

In Times Square the MLF appeared and started attacking the sea of people in the "Crossroads of the World". They also targeted the nearby Police and fire stations to hinder efforts to control the chaos they were creating.

Down on Wall Street the Brotherhood started attacking the bankers and investment brokers.

Leading the attacks on humans were Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr.

Mutants attacking humans prompted responses from anti-mutant groups such as the Friends of Humanity, the Church of Purity and other pro-human groups.

The streets of New York quickly became a battleground between humans and mutants.

She drops to the ground, and as she does so, she's thinking.
Gio's been Andrew's training partner for many, many years. She understands about reactive mutations. She can put together that this is what she's seeing.

She knows being on the ground will barely get her a moment, so she rolls to the other side of him, The side from which she can get Simon's attention. Then, her efforts at avoiding and defending slacken completely as she focuses on getting Simon's attention, mouthing very distinctly the words 'Need big guy unconscious quick' and pointing to her inner ears.

	Simon's lip reading might need some work but he gets the message. With only a moment's pause to build up some power, there's snaps and two explosions go off right at the guy's ears. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Rampage takes the moment to strike Gio, swatting her with his grotesquely huge arm. However he didn't notice Simon, whose attack resounded in Rampage's ears. He screamed, falling to a knee, but he doesn't fall unconscious. Instead his ears shift and mutate into long, batlike points. He turns toward Simon, hissing. He runs for him, using his massive arm to bring him speeding even faster at SImon.

Gio's knocked down and to the side, with bruised-at-least ribs, when she willingly leaves herself open like that. And... the only way she could think of of bringing down a person like this completely fails. And now he's after Simon. So she doesn't even drag herself to her feet, just lets it come over her and flickers to be in front of his legs. And she doesn't hit -- she just grabs.

Simon has experience in fights, getting into them before Xavier's helped, and combat training. But even he knows a guy like this is beyond his expertise. Sometimes it's all about timing, and he's got to get this right.

Letting the massive guy rush at him, Simon waits for his moment, building up a charge by pressing his fingers together. At the last moment he dives out of the way and begins snapping. This time it's not the guy's ears that'll be ringing, those explosions were right in front of the eyes.

	Rampage's charge was abruptly halted by Gio. Before he could even look to see what had he grabbed him, Simon's flash went off in his face, blinding him. His face mutated to become grotesque with denser bone, but he's still blind. "Where are you!?" he screams impotently, trying to find them, wildly swinging. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The smartest thing to do would probably be to scramble back to his feet and get away to safety. But that'd occupy his hands and waste precious time. So from his position on the ground he takes a deep breath and focuses. The explosions that come now aren't as strong as the previous ones, but they happen a lot faster, enough that the effect is additive in some cases. Simon makes sure to aim for the ears, eyes, and various joints with a constant barrage of explosions. He's not sure if this will be frowned upon but given it was life or death at one point, he doesn't care. The next explosion comes when Rampage screams again. Except this one happens in the middle of his mouth.

Worried the brute will find him by the sound of frantic snapping? Not with the fourth of July happening in his face.

Blinded and stuck by Gio's grip, Rampage was unprepared for the sudden barrage of explosions. If they had been a little slower in coming his body may have reacted to them better, but they came in too fast and too powerful. Rampage's face was smoking. The flesh was somewhat mutated to compensate for the damage, but he was out on his feet before thudding to the pavement.

	And when he goes down, Gio sighs with relief and drags herself up. Yeah... definitely something wrong with her ribs. She grins at Simon. "Good job. Now we get to do it again. Keep going." And while she's not at her fastest, off she goes. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Simon catches his breath and nods, his ears are ringing a little but he catches the 'Good job'. The dive scrapped him up but he's in better shape than her and runs after her as they go for their next target. (Reply to this)(Parent)
