All Hallow's Eve
All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween as it has been come to be called, is a popular holiday with children and adults alike. It is a holiday that had its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain or Summer's End. Samhain celebrated the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half".

On this evening the barriers between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be thin and the spirits, good and bad, of the dead could pass through. The spirits of the family's ancestors were welcomed in while evil and bad spirits were warded off by the wearing of masks and costumes. The costumes and masks disguised one as a harmful spirit and avoided harm from others.

It was also a harvest celebration and time to take stock of food stores for the winter. Livestock were slaughtered and the meat prepared for storage. It was the final harvest of the year and the crops were then stored for the winter. Celebrations included bonfires and tales of the family's ancestors.

It was a celebration of the dead and of the harvest.

Today we dress up in scary and not so scary costumes and masks and go door to door for candy or attend costume parties. It is a night for revelry, pranks and fun.

"Oh okay! Well hopefully he has time, I want to meet your friend." He smiles happily, glad his disc had been helpful. "I've never seen that movie. We have horror movies and stuff of Kelly's but Bea says I'm not allowed to watch them, I'll watch it if you send it though! 'Cause then she can't say no. Does the place have real ghosts or is that one of those things where the people are just really bad at telling if there's ghosts or not?"

From everything she'd heard, Kelly had /all/ the scary stuff. Or she was all the scary stuff. It was hard to keep it straight since she hadn't met most of his teammates.

"I don't know if it does or not, but we could find out pretty easy for them. Just need a conjuring spell and see what pops up."

Martin found Kelly and her stuff odd, not scary really, but she was a hard one to understand. "That's a good idea. Oh! I forgot to tell you! The new girl on our team...didn't think ghost were real!"

If they'd been hunting wabbits, their voices would have scared all the wabbits away.

Marlow was appropriately aghast at his news. Especially when Boston had a lot of ghosts!

"They'll believe in demons, but not in ghosts. How do they get through the day not believing in stuff?"

"I don't know! She said she thought aliens and stuff were more real than ghosts! I told her that was wrong though and even offered to let her meet one. But she said no. At least now she knows ghosts are real, or she should at least. Some people are just so weird..."

He pauses and remembers why he'd been talking to Adrienne in the first place. "But she was nice because she believed that the terrible things those news people were saying about Dr. Strange were lies. They're Not Allowed to say those things about him." How come nobody seemed to understand that? At least he knew Marlow appreciated the point.

"I don't think it was really Doctor Strange." Now in a gossiping mood, the voodoo queen ghost hunt was put on hold. "He wouldn't do that stuff."

"Of course that wasn't Dr. Strange! He'd never do that stuff," Martin pouts and crosses his arms. "They still shouldn't say bad things about him, he's the best." And what if they moved onto saying bad things about Clea? Or Marlow?

"Wait, who's the best?" Corey asked as he appeared in a flash. "I've been busy burying apples."

A pause. "Also, we're on the wrong place."

"We are? Isn't this the grave?" Now this was a huge disappointment. All this time and they were hunting the wrong ghost? "Where should we be?"

Martin gives Marlow's friend a smile and friendly hat tip. Hat tips were his usual alternative to hand shakes. "Hello! And it's not the grave? Oh...it's not too late to move right?"

"Celeste -- she runs the little shop off the corner of rampart; her mom was a bit of a mambo or something, so they know this stuff -- says all the best practitioners don't like being bothered by tourists at all ours of the night, so the wrong grave gets around as the place. She's not there. Sure it's not too late."
