Kal sighed. "I'm one of them," she said. "I grew up as one of them, not an Eternal. I'm still trying to learn what it means to be an Eternal. Of course I want to be involved because I grew up in the middle of it. I didn't grow up detached from them like everyone else in our family."

He nods. "I know. And I realize that I haven't been part of the mortal world long, on either side. I've seen dozens of cultures, but always as an observer... an Eternal. My dad is passionate about humanity, he loves them, and the Eternals have modeled themselves in a lot of ways after another age of humanity. There is admiration there. But this is an opportunity to learn what being an Eternal is like. And sooner or later, you're going to need to. A lot of those stories from a long time ago that you talk about... with my dad, a lot of them are about how hard it was to lose his first wife... and second... and so on. And that was with the distance he has."

"I guess I don't do bored very well," she finally admitted. "Maybe I should go somewhere. A country or some other place I've never been to."

He nods. "We just can't go back to New York. The Earth is open to you. Or the universe. Where do you want to go?"

"Pick a place and let's go. I'm tired of sitting around here," she said as she sat up. Adventure was much better than sitting around and being bored in Olympia.

"Alright, how about Titan?" he asks, extending a hand. "You don't have anything else holding you on Earth right now."

She had a feeling he would say that. She wanted to go, but wasn't brave enough to suggest it herself.

She placed her hand in his and stood up. "Fine. Let's go."

He nods, getting a firm grasp, and taking off from Olympia. "We'll hit space warp once we're out of Earth's gravity. Until then, you should be able to keep up fine."

"Lead the way, cousin," she said as she followed him.

He reaches his destination point, and they hit warp, bright light surrounding the pair, though the only real change from before is the brief moment of acceleration.
"It'll be a couple hours, we'll come out about fifteen minutes from Saturn. Hope its not too boring for you."

"This is far from boring. It's incredible. I don't see why you stay on Earth when you can travel like this."

He considers a few moments before responding.
"Same reason your mother stays on Earth, I'd suppose. Same reason the Eternals patterned themselves after humans, read their books, listen to their music. This will always be here, so long as I am. But on Earth there's so much to do and experience. They surf, they cook, they dance, and no two days are the same. I enjoy flying, I love seeing new places, but its for the sake of the places."

"Fair enough," she said. "At this point I am content to stay on Earth, but maybe in a century or two I'll want to explore." Of course a lot depended on how meeting her father goes. She may just like Titan and want to stay there.

"Some ways I envy you, I've had too much of my parents hammered into me - don't get content, at least not yet. Too much to do, too much to learn about immortality. I like exploration too though."

"It sounds like you're rushing things. If there's anything I've learned in the past year is that there's plenty of time to learn things and do things."

"Its possible. But there doesn't seem to be any shortage of things to learn."

"True enough," she conceded. "I guess I'm just not in a rush or just being particularly lazy this year."

"I'm honestly surprised mine isn't bugging me for grandkids. I'm giving her about a year before it starts happening. Especially if I'm still with Jack."

"That one I kind of doubt. I don't think she's in a hurry for mortal grandkids. Look how long having a child took her. Eventually, maybe. I think she just wants you to follow what you're passionate about more fully. You're more reserved than she is." Not that that's hard.

"That's not hard to do," Kal said. "Though it is kind of weird with the parents I have. I've heard stories about my father and he's just as bad as my mother. I think the only reason she'd ever want grandkids is to spoil them rotten."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Spoil them rotten, get to be grandma for a short time, as far as she's concerned. Have the energy of children around. Its an experience, and not one she's really had, at least without a lot of the responsibility."

"Exactly. It would be a new experience and one she doesn't have to be as responsible for. Not to mention the shopping involved. It'd be perfect for her." Yes, Kal realized there would be nagging relatively soon if she stayed with Jack.
