He waited patiently, hands behind his back and hummed to himself until she came back. "Okay! It's fun making them jump and do mid-air battles," he smiled.
The general rule with Martin was that he was not to be touched. He kept a strict minimum distance between himself and others at all times and (except on extreme occasions) never hugged.
But Marlow was the exception that made the rule. She was family and magical. That meant frog Marlows were far far less likely to happen by accident. So instead of the terrified freezing up and 'I hope I don't turn them into a frog' look on his face, he simply stuffs his hands in his pockets and smiles into the hug. She gave the best hugs.
"You got it wrong. They moved Checkers Day. Or well...they should. Because today is even better! It's...hold on..." He takes off his hat, holding it bottom up and concentrates for a moment. Then with a boom, a geyser of sparkles explodes out of the hat and then shakily forms the words 'Happy Marlow Appreciation Day!'.
Yes, he was very proud of that. Sparkles and showing he'd worked on fine control in order to get the letters right all in one.
