Sammy was on her second cup of coffee and swiping pictures across a tablet while she waited for Tim. She needed his brain and good sense, and his company. They'd been friends practically since diapers with their families so close, and she lorded her six month edge over him at every opportunity. It had become even more necessary when he shot past her in height before they'd reached junior high school.

Her shoulder injury was on the mend, but it had given her some time to think. It seemed only natural to talk about it with the best friend she had outside her Glock.

Tim was running late, as usual. Sometimes it was impossible to leave the lab without having to stop and talk to someone. Today it was Director Eskridge wanting to know where he stood on Tim's current project. Even the last name of Dugan didn't exempt one from deadlines.

Tim walked in carrying his travel mug and a tablet under his arm.

He smiled when he saw Sammy and he could feel the familiar skip of his heartbeat.

"Pigtails! Sorry I'm late," he said as he slid into the booth across from her.

	Tim smiled at the automatic response. He had called her Pigtails since they were five and he had spent a day pulling the pigtails she had been wearing. "When isn't it? 	"Those darn status updates. I think the last one I turned in included a step by step description of me cleaning a gun and doing my laundry." She flipped the tablet around so he could see the image of an apartment building on the screen. "I need your brain, Timmy. "I'm a SHIELD brat, not a trust fund baby." She reached over to swipe to the next page with a fingertip. "I found a list of properties SHIELD has but doesn't use. Been thinking about getting a place away from the job. This one is over the river in Brooklyn. I'm not sure how much is just for show or really run down."

She swiped to another image. "There's a bar and a diner on the ground floor, both run by 'reserve' agents, but if my information is correct, there are at least four unused floors in it."

"My /parents/ are, and they're not ever going to die." She shrugged. "Not thinking clubhouse, just thinking a place to get away from things sometimes, but also a place with some room. The helicarrier is great, but when you get off, where do you go?"

She took the tablet back and powered it down. This was why she needed Tim. He was a voice of logic and she didn't use a lot of logic when she wasn't on the job. It was like her brain needed the brief absences from real life to get over what she did to it with her ability.

"No one lives forever except gods and Eternals," he said. "It's a clubhouse when it comes down to it. A place to hangout and kickback and only open to a certain few. Remember that one that I had? You were so mad because I had the 'No Girls Allowed' sign on it. I remember you took the sign off and wrote 'except Sammy' on it and then put it back up. Then you promptly climbed up and entered."

"I personally go elsewhere. Rock climbing, white water rafting, skiing, scuba diving and any comic or sci-fi convention that I can get to.. Other than that I live in the lab."

	"What can I say? I'm a sucker for pigtails." Tim grinned. Actually he was a sucker for Sammy. She could get away with just about anything with him. "Me? No. No secret places anywhere. "See, I want a place where I can go that'll have /my/ bed, /my/ fridge, /my/ stuff. I'm free to use the penthouse, but that's Mom and Dad's."

She looked through him intently, thinking. "But you just gave me an idea. I could manage to swing a place to go and relax. I love the beach. With the market so bad, maybe I can find a condo in foreclosure somewhere where it's warm most of the year and there's sand nearby."

	"I was thinking of one apartment in a SHIELD owned building, not all of them. Other agents use SHIELD apartments around the city when they need them. "Oh! I thought you were looking for a place for SHIELD agents to go who have downtime. I didn't realize it was for /you/. Chalk it up to me having my head up my ass. For you I think it'll be great. Will your ol' man go for it though?" he asked. He knew how protective Nick Fury was of his little girl.

He had been given explicit instructions from his godfather to watch over her at the tender age of five.

She made a tsking sound. "Yeah, me. Oh, I get it. I said it had four floors empty. I was just pointing out what was there, not that I wanted to make it available as a clubhouse. In no way would I tell the others where to spend their time. I thought about a SHIELD building first because it would be easier than explaining to a tenant board why Col. Fury was installing security. It's off the active list for safe houses, so I thought why not. It would cut out a lot of The Talk."

The Talk - Why Sammy can't be too normal and do things normal girls her age do because if she got kidnapped, Col. Fury was compromised by trying to get her back. Although, her ability emerging did cut down a lot on that as well. Kidnappers had to first hang onto her to make any ransom demand work.

"If I do it, maybe others will and get that building back into use. Maybe if I tell him you're looking for a place and you'd be my neighbor, he'd be less concerned. Even if you don't use it, the idea that you might be around would work."

Tim gave her a look. "He would know I'm not staying there. When have we ever been able to pull one over on him?"

He knew in that moment that he would be getting an apartment in that building. If she didn't make him do it, his grandfather and godfather would give him the 'I need someone I can trust around t' make sure she was safe' speech. Tim had heard that one a few times in his life.

He gave her a smile. "How about we schedule some time and go look at it?"

	Tim chuckled. "He knows everything. I still believe he had trackers in us minutes after being born." Though Tim had done scans in recent times and didn't find anything. "Which I don't get at all, but that's another argument." Why Tim didn't date was a mystery. He was adorable, smart, the sweetest guy in the world. One day they'd be running SHIELD for her dad and his grandpa.

That would be her next project after the apartment thing, and any mission that came up. She'd find him a girl. Who better than the person who'd known him the longest?

"Have to admit, the one con you talked me into was fun. But roughing it? Not without hazard pay."

	The reason he didn't date was sitting across the table from him. "Yes, I forgot. You're the delicate flower of womanhood and roughing it is just too much for you," he teased.
