No Disassembly Required (takes place before Orochi)
"So, professor, your findings thus far are consistent with expectations?"

"Yes, sir." Professor Honda removed his glasses, polishing them with a handkerchief his mother had given him. "Agent Clockwork--"

"The subject, professor. The construct is property of Big Hero 6, not a recognized agent." The official corrects him harshly.

"...of course, sir. The construct's general construction has been completely mapped, along with the reports of the agents who infiltrated the enlarged superstructure during initial contact. My team and I understand it's mechanical operations thoroughly. However--"

He interrupts again. "--the power source and key to its mystical abilities are still unclear. Hence the need to disassemble the construct so we can reverse-engineer the workings. Your initial experiments in modifying the subject to allow it to speak have already illustrated your proficiency in the workings of it."

Professor Honda bristles lightly, but nods. "Yes, sir, but as I have stated in my reports thus far, while I maintain confidence in my team and our spiritual consultants' ability to replicate the abilities of the construct, the subject's sentience may be permanently lost."

"Immaterial. More of these units will change our great nation's ability to defend itself, against threats both internal and external. I will see to the construct being taken into the Ministry's custody. Ready your team. You are dismissed."

At BH6 headquarters, Clockwork is in one of the common areas. It had recently purchased several canvasses and related supplies, and had been experimenting with calligraphy, and some simple figure painting.

Imagination took some measure of practice, it was finding. It should be grateful, however. Many of the books it had read about... similar beings said they were incapable of coming up with original thoughts.

Clockwork has company right now. Kayura is going through an attempt at being artistic phase again. It's important to at least try so she's trying to draw something.

The key word is trying. On occasion she glances over at Clockwork's art project looking impressed. She thinks it looks good.

Keiji walks by on his way from the exercise room..he dislikes the word, gym, okay. As he left he turns and see and notices the pair. "Kayura-chan, Clockwork-san..what are you doing?"

"This one is attempting to find the inner... me." Clockwork explains. It still has some hesitance about using personal pronouns.

It turns a canvas to show Keiji.

"That's adorable Clockwork-san," Kayura chirps looking happy for him.

Kayura glances at her own sketch and shrugs. "I was just trying to draw. For... fun. I needed a break from my studies."

Clockwork pauses, thinking, then points at a spot on the base of a wall. "Yes. Amiko-san needs them so she can watch her baseball games on the television box."

At that point, Reception announces that there is an operative from the Ministry of Defense arriving.

Immediately after that, a man in a suit carrying a large sheaf of papers enters, because he hasn't bothered to wait in Reception.

"Where is Agent Sunset?"

Feeling sudden inspiration, Clockwork drags his brush across another section of canvas, delicately shaping the strokes for one of the symbols for 'sunset'.

"Amiko-san is at her family home."

"We can contact her for you," Kayura says as she sets aside her drawing pad and stands up. She probably doesn't look like much of a government agent to him.

Keiji doesn't say anything or move toward the agent. He knew he was still considered little more than a killer on community service by most in the government. No need to give them an excuse to put him in prison.

For lack of a better option, the operative focuses on Kayura.

"No need to wait for her return," he says. "Here are my credentials and authorization. The Ministry of Defense is here to collect the Clockwork entity for further scientific study."

The notice they had guests got Hajime's attention. He leaves his meditation, wandering out to see who it is, quickly recognizing the signs of government agents - and the signs of surprise on his student's face.

"Is there a problem?"

"What is reverse-engineered?" Clockwork asks, unease filling the room at the tone of Kayura's reaction. Something is not right with this. Clockwork has submitted to being studied before, it was only right, after Big Hero 6 had been the ones to stop his terrified rampage initially, but this felt wrong.

Hajime glances curiously at the others. "But if they wish to do this, would it not be for the good of the nation?" He's not really sure where 'democratically elected officials' fall under the hierarchy of emperor-daimyo-local land holding lord-samurai. He knows he would surrender himself without question at a request from a representative of the Emperor.

Then something else catches his attention. These guys, he's not sure of. Amiko - far as he's concerned, only the Emperor can countermand her orders to him.
"We should wait for Amiko-sama then. I will support whatever decision she makes. You will not take him until she weighs in."

"We.... should wait for Amiko-san," Kayura says carefully. She doesn't like this.

"I don't think you can just do that without her anyways. Clockwork-san is under her command." Which is the only way she can keep herself from getting close to angry. She had begun to think of Clockwork as a living creature much like Grogg.

An athletic woman in body armor and carrying a rifle on her back and some sort of impressive sidearm enters as well. Her uniform has the insignia of a well-known armored car company.

"Sir. The vehicle is waiting." She seems to regard Hajime with approval, on more than one level. "Honored Samurai, would you please quiet the children? Our legal team, stricter than the Ministry's I should add, assures us that legally this is no different than requisitioning a piece of furniture.

Its not human."

Whether it is human or not has no bearing whatsoever on Hajime's decision. None.
He would turn himself in in a second if asked by the proper chain of command, and he's very certain of his own sentience.

"In the attempt to better understand the modern day, agent, I have read all of the rules several times. As this place has been, as I understand it, licensed to Big Hero Six, no major redecorating projects may be undertaken without the agreement of a Big Hero Six member with supervisory authority." he replies, citing the rules meant to help maintain some continuity and make sure they had access to the facilities necessary to do their jobs.

"No one like that is present. Would you like some tea while we wait for Amiko-sama? If she gives her signature, I will help you escort him to the van."

"This one does not wish to be taken apart... even if it is property." Clockwork starts backing away slightly, the various houseplants it has stocked the headquarters with beginning to rustle.

"This one does not want to die, but.... it does not want... friends to be in trouble either."

It had been a good trip to the family shrine. And, since there appeared to be no emergencies in the news or on the police scanner, she looked forward to a night of the Swallows/Giants game and dealing with everyone's allowances.

Except there's a Defense ministry agent and an operative from an armored car company rather bitterly having tea in her HQ.

Clockwork is with all the others, holding a cup of tea for itself. It can't drink it, but it enjoys the act of holding the warm cup (Grogg always prefers his cold anyway, so Clockwork holds it in the meanwhile).

"Amiko-san... the honored official from the Ministry says this one is to leave."

A solemn chime comes from within its frame.
'Bound.'

"They wish to disassemble this one, in order to create more like it. This one does not wish to... die, but this one also does not wish for friends to be disciplined for it."

It looks mournfully at the visitors.

"It is only an object, after all."

Hajime nods, affirming this state of affairs. "It was agreed that we should wait for you."

Questions of sentience remain a non-issue as far as he's concerned, and normally, he'd know where he would fall. But Amiko's opinion on the matter would replace his own, regardless.

Well, so much for a pleasant evening.

"First, Clockwork, calm down, and don't mope."

And then the Ministry operative is abandoning his tea and his seat to hand her the sheaf of papers with, "My authorization. It's a simple equipment requisition," and Amiko begins looking through it.

"First off, Clockwork, being taken apart doesn't mean you're necessarily going to die. Although I'm noticing there's not a lot on safety concerns specified for this particular experiment."

She looks to the operative and his companion. "Obviously," she begins, "As Clockworks supervising agent, I'm concerned for its safety. As a mutant, I'm concerned by the nature of the project of itself, considering the mass-production of combat robots has been the first step by many governments in hunting mutant citizens down. But," she begins to demure, "as a loyal servant of the nation--"

The triumphant look on the operatives face falls as she continues "-- I'm most concerned why these 'orders' are all directly from the Ministry of Defense, rather than the interministry panel appointed to oversee BH6 affairs. Since obviously, these can't actually, therefore, be orders to me, I'm left only with my opinion that the whole project is stupid, and wondering if the heads of His Majesty's Government really even know it's going on. I do have the Prime Minister on speed-dial for a reason." The operative starts to fluster, but is met only with "Don't try to take my people or my stuff without real cause again, even if the two overlap."

All these agencies never did make sense anyway, and regardless what he had thought, Amiko is clearly correct. It is the way things are.

Any hope of help from the one BH6 member formerly amenable to their position evaporates rapidly.

"The decision has been made, please enjoy your tea." Because otherwise that would be wasteful. "And then I believe you know where the door is."

"I get the full day's pay either way." The armored car agent shrugs, although she does seem slightly tickled by this turn of events. "If you'll excuse me, sir. Thank you for the tea." She bows her head to BH6, eyes lingering on Hajime for a bit, and escorts herself out.

"This...." The ministry agent tries to gather what dignity remains of his visit. "This will be relayed back to my superiors." He departs, after giving an infuriated glance in Amiko's direction.

After the ministry official has gone, Clockwork cautiously approaches Amiko. It looks at her in silence for a long moment, before, carefully, embracing her.

"Thank you, Amiko-san."
