Sparring
Despite knowing she was getting an artificial arm at the end of the week, Svalin still wanted to improve her left-hand fighting skills. If anything, she was thorough in her fighting education. She also didn't know how well the artificial arm would work (she didn't trust technology all that much) and she wanted to be prepared just in case it didn't work as well as a natural arm.

She grabbed Vigfrior and went to find Kael.

"Swords if thou doth not mind," she said. The sword was her primary weapon. She had to master that before she could move on to the other weapons she normally used. Svalin would eventually learn how to use them all with her left hand. It was just a matter of time and she was quite determined.

The one she missed the most was her bat'leth. That required two hands and she couldn't wait to get her artificial arm just so she can practice with her bat'leth.

Svalin nodded. Though there were always surprises in a fight, right now would not be a good time for one. Not while she was basically learning from the beginning.

"Here ist fine or the main lawn," she answered. The Defenders Compound had room to spare, but there was no need to go too far away from the main building. Besides, it was wise to stay relatively close just in case something happened.

Svalin had been expecting an attack, just not something that quick. There had been less than a second to get her sword up to block the quick attacks. As it were, she wasn't quite quick enough and the sharp edge bit into the flesh of her upper arm. It was a shallow cut and a lesson learned.

She went on the defensive and moved back a few steps, her sword moving to block the attacks.

He keeps up, but not all the strikes were meant to be damaging. Some were in fact probing, testing the strength of her defenses from certain angles. Believing he had found the right spot, he struck up, while distracted he sent a fist forward, but halted before it hit. "I could have had a dagger in hand. Sometimes you have to endure some pain in order to halt a greater attack."

	"True enough." Kael resolved to, how would Vernique put it? Go Dark Elf on her ass? Yes, that was the phrase. He moves with a sudden underhand to overhand slice, spinning up from the left side, going toward Svalin's blade. When the blow connects, he plans to strike with a hard kick to her other side. 	Svalin brought her sword around to block the strike. The two blades met with a resounding clash. It took all she could do block the blow so when the kick came she didn't have a chance of blocking it. His foot connected and she went flying backward. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Until your arm is restored you will be at a constant disadvantage. You must learn to anticipate the enemy using that to their advantage. The blade is not all you can use." He maneuvers the blade so the hilt moves out. "When the blade is out of range of your opponent, do not waste time reorienting the blade, strike with the sword's pummel. If you manage to hit the nose then that's a moment of disorientation you can use to regain your bearings and seize an opening."

	Svalin picked herself off the ground and nodded. "Understood." She charged in taking the offensive and feigned a strike from the left, but quickly turned the blade and came up from the right. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	She saw the fist coming and twisted her wrist to shove the pommel of her sword into the punch. She pivoted on her left foot and kicked out to the side with her right. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The pummel-strike hurts him, but more importantly redirects his blow, allowing for her kick to send him sprawling. However, he rolls with the fall and springs around back to his feet. He smiles. "There you go." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

He rises to his feet. "However, the sword-pommel is only one means of blocking an attacker. When a limb is unusable, you must rely on what you have left even more. Your feet, knees, and legs can be invaluable. Perhaps your opponent closes in too close, a n old-fashioned headbutt can buy you precious time to strike back." He raises his sword back up, indicating his readiness.

	"Aye," Svalin agreed. Hal quite often fought in the way Kael was describing and Svalin had fought her brother many times. She knew the tactics he talked about, she had just never used them herself. She brought her sword up and slowly advanced toward him. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
