Jordan's own absorption powers are normally a slow, minor process. Here, however, the man's own abilities seem to have kick-started them, in combination with Jordan's own tendency to shrug most things off. He'll ponder the specifics later - right now, he has a country to save.
Jordan takes the first punch, swinging back with one of his own. He's not the greatest combatant, but so far, this guy hasn't exactly had to rely on massive expertise either.
