Mason was in the middle of trying to figure what went wrong with the transmutation when he saw the blast coming. He tried to put up another wall, but it shattered and he was sent flying head over heels. He hit a wall with a thud, shrapnel from his attempt at a defense sticking out of him at all angles. A particularly large piece was embedded in his side.
