Nightmares and Dreamscapes - Kal/Buck Angst 11
The scene shifted and Kalypso looked around. The buildings of New York had been destroyed and turned into rubble. The familiar landmarks and buildings were gone. Something had destroyed one of the greatest cities on Earth.

Kal looked around. Where were the Avengers? Why hadn't they stopped this destruction? Where were the Defenders? The X-Men? Any of the other hero teams? Why had they let this happen?

People moved about in the rubble and ruins and Kal desperately sought a familiar face. An elderly gentleman came up to her. He smiled and said her name, but she didn't recognize him. He said her name again and Kal took a closer look at him. "Jack?" No. It couldn't be Jack. Jack wasn't old and this man looked like he was pushing one hundred.

He smiled and nodded. Before he could speak again he started to age more and started turning into dust. "Nooo!" she yelled and reached out a hand. Jack turned completely into dust by the ravages of time and blew away with the wind. Kal's gut twisted into a knot.

There was laughing behind her and she turned to see her uncle standing there. The Mad Titan laughed and destroyed another building.

Kal reached out with her mind to find any Avenger left alive.

The Avengers have fallen, or nearly fallen many times. But so long as there's one, they have persevered. And more often than any other, the last man standing, or the single voice to rally them has been a Rogers.
Much as the gods and titans have endless spans, somehow, his father has made an impression to last the ages on immortals. And now, even in the fever dreams of one of these, it falls to a Rogers again.

Whether her mind in her sleep finds another who can offer some comfort, whether he's a part of this dream, or what the case is, there is one, and only one Avenger left.

Two smoke bombs fly from nowhere at the Mad Titan, and the cry goes up.

"AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!"

	Buck is hopelessly, completely outmatched against Thanos. With a Rogers, when has that ever mattered? "Yeah, long story." he agrees quickly on hearing a familiar voice. He lobs a couple of high explosives into the smoke, trying to keep Thanos from seeing or hearing her just yet, while he narrowly avoids an energy blast in return. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	He blinks, seeming to become somewhat less worried about fighting Thanos, and more aware of the real fight here. "Of course we're going to die. But that doesn't mean the now isn't important. And just as a lot of us picked up from our parents, there will always be an Avengers to stop him. The faces may change, but the heart is still there." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	He doesn't expect her to get over it, just like that. But he wants to give her faith in something that might live beyond this generation, something to hope for for all of her days to come. Buck, or this version of him, runs with that. "You have an opportunity - yes, a lot will change in your lifetime, but with people like you, the gods, your cousin... things can be carried forward. All the values, the important things of this age can be remembered, preserved. You can help not only the Avengers of now... but those of the future as well. You have a place here, not only because you earned it through your deeds... but because you have a very unique ability to make sure this scene never happens."

	There were a few moments where nothing happened and then the other Avengers started to materialize. Their teammates along with various adult Avengers appeared. For added measure a few Eternals appeared as well. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Kal woke with a start and sat up in bed. It was a dream. She rubbed the bridge of her nose and sighed heavily. It was only a dream and she was thankful Jack was across the country in San Francisco to miss it. Kal climbed out of bed and headed down to the kitchen for some coffee. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Kal gave him a small smile. This was just a bit awkward after having a dream with him in it. Pink touched her cheeks a bit. I know its not necessary for eternals - your cousin never did while he was here, and your mom... is infamous for her 'not sleep' and all... but you prefer to try and keep habits?"
