Walking In A Winter Wonderland (Alpha Flight)
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man.

Alex was a horrible shopper and never knew what to get anyone when it came time for gift exchanging. He had been out of practice for quite a few years. For Mason and Nim he got a gift certificate for one of the best restaurants in Ottawa and arranged for a carriage ride for after dinner. For Jordan he got an autographed Gordie Howe Red Wings jersey, an autographed Wayne Gretzky Edmonton jersey and an autographed Bobby Orr Bruins jersey.

Mel was the easiest person for him to shop for. He got her an amethyst necklace to go with the bracelet he previously bought her.

Her smalltown roots had not truly prepared Nim for much shopping, and now having more money than she knew what to do with did not help either, because she was never really sure where to stop.

So Jordan got season tickets to his hockey team and the latest Super-Buddies video game.

Alex got an extremely generous gift certificate to the mall, since she didn't know his sizes or style well enough.

Mel got an equally generous gift certificate to a top of the line retailer of cooking supplies.

And the both of them got an all-expenses paid dinner at the most exclusive restaurant in Canada.

And Mason? Well, there was the vacation getaway to somewhere tropical, of course, but then there was the certificates for various periods of cuddling, snuggling, and the like.

Certificates are good. They'll go nicely with some of the things Mason picked out at La Senza for her, and the necklace he'd made for her.

Alex got a smartphone with extra large buttons, Mel got a new muffin tray (made by him) and a few new cookbooks, and Jordan got a junked WWII era Harley Davidson and a new toolkit, accompanied by a coupon promising for it to be a project for them to fix up together.
