A Normal Evening Out.
Amiko called Hajime and Keiji into her office. "Gentleman, I have a suggestion it's possible neither of you will be comfortable with, but I want you to humor me."

"Occasionally, I remember that I own a few of these," Amiko says with a smile. "You're both dressed within the appropriate range for the restaurant." Another smile. "The food, at least, shouldn't be anything unfamiliar to either of you. It's rather old-fashioned cooking. It's also, fortunately, in walking distance." And unless either of them have some other need, they'll set out.

Yuji Ashida had been shadowing the three from the rooftops. Oyama rarely left BH6 headquarters, and rarely alone. Jonin Akira was growing impatient, which meant Yuji had to act now lest he incur the old man's wrath. He used a minor spell to further mask his movements until he reached what was likely to be the perfect spot.

He removed the shruiken from his tunic. Each edge was coated with a lethal poison that would bring someone of even Oyama's pain threshold a crippling death. With the weapon fit snugly between his finger, Yuji smirked from his perch.

"Sayonara, Deathrike-sama." He flung the weapon straight at Keiji.

When the shruiken left Yuji's body, the spell of silence was broken. While a quiet weapon, Keiji was familiar enough with their use to feel when one was coming. He could have dodged it..but Amiko would be hit instead. On pure instinct he grabs Amiko and shoves her toward Hajime, well out of the range of the weapon. However, the shruiken streaks across his shoulder-blade. The pain was instantaneous as the weapon's poison began to course through him, dropping him to his knees.

	Amiko's not bad at recognizing these things herself, but that's enough to get her reacting before she's shoved. She whirls to see Keiji on the ground. The horror that fills her is far, far too familiar. "Nobody touch that!" she says of the obviously-poisoned weapon that clatters to the ground. Not again. This can't be happening again. Hajime has spent the better part of 700 years training with the mystical swordmasters. And the start of the technique has always been iaijutsu. Every day, beginning with drawing his sword 1000 times without flaw, and finishing likewise. Exhausting, nearly inhumanly sadistic. But he's done it, and it pays off now.

His sword is just in hand, as he steps forward to interpose himself between the two and where the shuriken came from. "Get him to cover." he says flatly. "None shall pass, on my life. I will follow."

"Damn it!" Oyama had managed to dodge enough so that the wound was minor enough to treat if he escaped. Yuji couldn't let him get away or Akira would have his head. He leapt off his perch, pulling his weapon from his belt, a kusarigama.

"Get out of my way! Oyama's life is the Hand's to take! It does not concern you!" Of course Yuji is already in motion, flinging the hard iron end of the chain toward Hajime.

	Amiko's moving to drag Keiji away, trusting Hajime implicitly to cover their backs and focusing entirely on that, no matter how much she wants to deal with the bastard. She does snarl, however, "I Prefer Him Alive," as she's getting Keiji to safety. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Swords are said to be less than ideal against chain weapons. That hardly seems to matter. He times his swing perfectly, catching the end of the chain, turning his sword once to capture it, and pulls, trying to use momentum while he has the man coming at him to tug him into close quarters where his greater reach weapon won't matter.

"You have attacked my lord. You are now my concern." he answers with the same flat, straightforward tone.

"Very unfortunate for you."

	Yuji Is pulled toward Hajime. He quickly adjust to stop the ongoing motion toward Hajime, and then swings at his neck with the kama end of the weapon. "You've sworn allegiance to Oyama? I agree that is unfortunate, but for you!" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Hajime ducks, losing a few hairs to the swing, well aware the blade is likely poisoned, so any cut could be deadly. He has no healing factor.

So he will just have to be that much better.

He continues to turn his blade, twirling more of the chain around it to try and restrict his opponent's ability to swing, kicking low as he ducks to try and sweep the assassin's feet - or get him to jump so he can throw him. Either works for the kensai.

"My lady speaks for him. That is enough."

Amiko gets Keiji further away, calls the paramedics. She's ready to go back to help Hajime with the bastard, especially since she wants to take him alive for questioning, but first, she takes her lover's face in her hands and looks at him directly.

"You are going to get through this. You will survive until you get treatment, and you won't do anything stupid to stop the pain. That's an order, my love. They aren't going to take you from me."

	For the moment, his weapon was useless, so Yuji let it go. He fell on his feet and rolled out of range of the sword. He pulled two more shruiken from his tunic and flung them at Hajime. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

He's almost too slow.

Almost.

He comes back around, turning his sword to whirl the weapon trapped on it, the discarded chain catching the shuriken and deflecting them, before he swings his sword about, sliding the disarmed weapon off of it out of the assassin's reach.

Far too close, but he's still alive and unpoisoned.

He advances, trying to close the gap again and keep Yuji away from his weaponry left on the ground.

	There's a loud hissing sound on the sidewalk as the three shuriken lying there are ....sterilized. There are civilians about. One can never be too careful. Amiko has made it back over to the fight, and she will take a different angle to flank the assassin. "You. People. Again," she snarls as the knife leaves her hand, targetting his lower left side. 	Yuji is initially distracted by Hajime and is caught off guard when he hears Amiko's voice. He turns a bit, but the knife grazes across his tunic, exposing the chain armor underneath. "Yes, again! And again! And again! Endlessly until Oyama dies!" Yuji pulls out a smoke bomb and makes to fling it, hoping to blind the pair long enough to retrieve his weapon. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The smoke bomb goes down, and Hajime is rendered sightless.

Without hesitation, he drops to his knees, closing his eyes. They can deceive, they can be taken away. He focuses on the Zanshin technique, remembering the surroundings, remembering where the weapons were.

He listens for the sound of the assassin's padded footsteps amidst distant sounds of shoes and running. And when he has a direction - towards the weapons, he waits... waits for his moment, the instant he hears the sound of metal scraping on cement, the weapon being retrieved, presuming the assassin must be picking it up - he knows where he is, and when the man is without weapon.

In that moment, he does not need eyes. He turns, coming to his feet, and lunges.

	When Yuji picks up the weapon. Hajime's sword connects. While Yuji's armor prevented the blade from piercing his skin, the blow itself was still strong. As such it sent him sprawling backwards toward Amiko. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
