A change of scenery
From foggy London to sweltering New Orleans. It was as much a culture shock as it was a shock to her senses. To Yankee Clipper's too, if the grumbling mews coming from the pet carrier meant anything. She was in total agreement with the cat - it was too damned hot.

She set the carrier down in front of a door and checked the address. It was correct. Hopefully they had something cool to drink for the both of them. She took a breath and knocked.

"That sounds nice. Would anyone have a problem with my....cat?" She looked around her chair, but Yankee Clipper was gone. "I should add that he doesn't respect personal space."

"I don't think anyone's allergic... does he have any supernatural sensitivities? And will he need a kitty door?"

"I'm not sure what you mean by supernatural sensitivities. YC loved the sorcerer in residence. Otherwise, he kind of takes things in stride." She thought she saw a twitching orange tale around a corner. "He's become accustomed to a litter box in my bathroom because I couldn't let him loose in London. I'm not sure how he'll do here."

"Some animals don't take to well to supernatural stuff being around. But if he hasn't had any issues before, probably nothing to worry about. Well, the backlot has a fenced-in area, but indoors might still be safer."

"As long as he won't be a bother. He's really easy to live with as long as privacy from a cat isn't something you worry about."

Jenny laughed. "I hope not. I've heard stories about New Orleans."

Yankee Clipper wandered back in and stopped to rub himself against Corey's leg.

"I don't have much at the moment. Clothes and books. Way too many books. If everyone here is okay with me and YC moving in, just point me toward a furniture store."

"Ooh, there's this place just off Royal street that hs some ofthe most gorgeous furniture. Do you need help bringing things in?" The second room on the right is empty."

"I thought maybe you and the others would want to meet me and YC first. Just in case we don't fit. If we don't, that's okay. Teams have to be able to work, especially if they're small." She smiled. "My things are at my brother's apartment in his spare room.

"Oh. Fine. You can be all sensible and stuff if you really want to. I guess I'm used to people coming and going. I was half-raised at a boarding school. Do you like chicken-vegetable soup?"

She laughed a little louder. "Can't help it, I'm afraid. Somebody had to be reasonable in my family because my brother got all the overbearing boring genes. We've been on our own since our folks died. Also, I'll eat anything you put in front of me."

"Well, the mud pie has to be seen as both an objet d'art and as a weapon... Um. Maybe it's a good time to explain that I'm a sculptor and a terrakinetic."

"Terrakinetic....you can manipulate earth?" That sounded a lot more interesting than having a kinetic field that kept her from enjoying night clubs, malls and anywhere else that crowds formed.

The 'local in Brazil' caught her attention before she could explain what she meant. "You're not from around this hemisphere then. Is anybody on the team actually from New Orleans or Louisiana?"

"Nope. We all met up in New York, chased a bad guy down here, and... it's a nice place. The climate was more like home for me than New York, and there was a good creative-arts school, so that's why I liked the idea of staying."
