This is how easy it is to slip up
Marcia Martin is pretty amazing when it comes to several things. One is putting up with her roommate/student and teaching him what she can. The second is being an advocate for the deaf. She is really good with the community and loves the kids she works with.

She even teaches parents who hear how to sign. It's fun and she has lots of experience. She also has a sort of long distance romance going on with a fellow mutant. She still isn't ready to come out of the closet and introduce herself as one to the world at large.

But she has had time to think about it. She thinks that it would be safer to keep[ it under wraps just for now. People aren't so nice to mutants.

But then sometimes fate has something else in mind for people like Marcia. Like right now.

	The way it was said was like getting slapped. It hurt to hear words like that out of someone's mouth. "No one but my parents know. I'm a mutant. I've hidden it since it kicked in. Why should it matter? I've never hurt anyone." But now she is suddenly very worried and has to keep her hands off the table as she controls her breathing. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Her expression goes very flat. "If I could take power suppressors to cut this off I would. But I'm very careful. So long as I keep my heart rate steady I can keep it from leaking. My powers aren't lethal either unless I'm actually trying to do damage, the worse it would feel like is a low level tazer or a static shock." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

If that's really the nature of the relationship between the two of you, that is..." He trails off, then continues. "If you want this to stay quiet, then it's going to cost you. I'll be in touch." 	Jack hastily shuts down his netbook, saying goodbye to his friends. "Hey Marcia. How was work, and what's a 'cougar'? I know it's some kind of cat, but how does that apply to you?" Word had gotten out about Jack's living arrangement at school, and there had been some insinuations he hadn't quite understood. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Awful."

Then he says that. And she just gives a loud frustrated growl.

The tv is now smoking and bolts of electricity jump on her hands.

"It means they think I'm using you for sex. And I can't BELIEVE how angry I am right now."

She stalks past him and disappears into her room so she can just scream loudly. Then comes out again trying to not cry. But she does. Big wet tars leak out for a moment before she calms down. Then sags and slumps against the wall.

	Jack doubles back in alarm, initially having just been annoyed by what he now understood was being implied. He moves over to Marcia with concern. "Marcia? What's wrong? I'm sorry I upset you. 	"Nobody can make me leave if I don't want to, Marcia." Jack tries to reassure her. "I'm a superhero, remember?" He smiles at her, already making a note to ask Steve for help. Nobody doesn't-deserve this more than Marcia. "Please don't be scared. We're going to figure this out And what's wrong with being a mutant? That doesn't change anything about you." "Jack. People hate mutants. It's like being black in the early part of the previous century. If I get outted I could loose everything," she said slowly in that tone that she used when she meant serious business.

"I don't think we'd loose this place. The landlord is a cheap bastard who would hate to loose money. But.... my job. My God. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't help my kids."

	"There are no laws protecting mutants from this kind of thing." Because who cared about a bunch of mutie freaks. It made her head hurt so very much. "I don't know." She looked ready to break again.
