We need to talk

When Zeus was alone a bird would find him telling him that a friend wished to talk with him about a mutual concern they had about the Asgardians.  If he wished to talk he should meet him on the isle of the Glass Tower in Avalon and the arrangements to keep the meeting secret will have been set in place on that side. When the bird finished talking it would disappear in a shimmering of lights as though it was never there.

Zeus will arrive in a blast of lightning and thunder before the Dagda, eying his contemporary warily. The last time he'd seen him, they were discussing the fate of the child of the Asgardian and their concerns were being undermined by the most of the rest of the Council of Godheads.

"I was surprised by your invitation, Dagda. Our last meeting saw our concerns being disregarded by others, but you know they are making their own preparations. What would you discuss with me?" he asks.

The Dagda was putting the final touches on his spells. It had taken a lot of work to set all of them up but given how the reception both his and Zeus's concerns had been received at the meeting and what he knew of Odin there could be no taking chances.

He had set up spells to keep away any prying eyes no matter how they might try and pry. And had set up a back up spell just in case anyone who might get through to listen would just here them talking about their favorite contest.

"Yes I know they probably are even if they do not understand our worries," The Dagda says, "They have never had to fight the true force of Asgard like we have.

I wished to discuss with you what we should have been able to discuss at the meeting before we were told our concerns were foolish."

"No, they have not. And I am certain you've seen just how much turmoil has followed this child's existence. The city the humans call Los Angeles was attacked by creatures of darkness, seeking to end this child." Zeus says.

He knew that Amadeus lived in Los Angeles, though he did not understand why he still could not see the boy after all these years. It was an issue that vexed him to no end.

"This child will be either savior or destroyer; which is not yet set in stone. Perhaps it will be one or both. However, if the Asgardians /do/ defy fate and survive their twilight...how soon before they decide to try to elevate themselves above the rest of us?" Zeus asks.

"What are your thoughts, Dagda?" he asks.

"Yes I have," the Dagda says, "And they do not even have as much to lose as some others do. Who knows what they might try or do causing destruction to the mortal world but it will not do to let them."

"Their savior would be another's destroyer there is no question in that," the Dagda says, "If he truly is this child of destiny then he is both."

"That is hard to say. I do not think the Asgardians could handle peace well they are too much the warriors. But Odin would not attack without cause but the longer the are at peace the smaller the cause might become. And once they start they will not stop till one side is utterly defeated."

"I will state for the record doing anything against the child now is not something I would ever agree to for various reason," the Dagda says, "Instead it would be best for us to strengthen ourselves."

"I agree. I have no interest in harming children, but the situation must be equalized for all." Zeus says. "This child is a power unto itself, and who is to say that even Odin Allfather could control him, should he decide to strike against the rest of us?" Zeus asks.

He pauses, stroking his beard for a long moment as he considers the Dagda's next words.

"Strengthening ourselves would require finding beings of equal or greater power to spawn children with, or commanding our own children or grandchildren to do so. But such power cannot be given to just /any/ beings. We must each select carefully to ensure the creation of a being that could match this child." he says.

"If he goes rogue then we will strike him down," the Dagda says, "Child of prophecy or not even he could not stand against an entire pantheon by himself. Especially if we prepare."

"If that is the path we wish to choose we must work carefully for most of our children do not like being controlled. But it is a potent option," he says, "The other option we have is to create an actual weapon to deal with sure a threat. The Asgardians have their little destroyer armor, none could say we cannot make powerful weapons of our own."

"I mislike the idea of entrusting fate to a weapon that could easily be turned back upon us. Our children and grandchildren must eventually submit to our rule. It is the way of things, as it has always been and shall always be." Zeus says.

"And see how many times the Destroyer has been turned upon Asgard or Earth to wreak havoc before it is stopped. I think it is meet that we offer our children that which they do not have in order to give us what we seek." Zeus says.

"That is most certainly a problem with weapons," the Dagda says, "But who is to say our worries about the Asgardian child could not also come true in one of our own. I know of the prophecy regarding a child of yours over throwing you and the lengths you have gone to avoid that."

"Aye eventually they would submit," he says, "And I'm sure my brothers and sisters will agree with my decision given time. But sure orders must be given carefully. We do not wish to create a breeding program as the mortals would call it."

"Such an exchange could work out well if we play things right," the Dagda says, "We can easily gain more than we are giving away."

Zeus nods. "My grandsons will make good stock for a new generation of gods. Mayhap we offer our children on Earth the chance at true godhood for their service?" he suggests.

"My own grandchildren and children would also be of good quality for that as would some of my nieces and nephews. The offer of godhood would certainly be of good motivation. Though such a gift does need to be earned and simply can not be given even in times and cases such as these."

The Dagda thinks for a moment. "Perhaps a test might be in order. If they are truly as worthy as we believe they are than it should not be an issue for them. And it would prove it to any who might question our judgment."

"What test would you put forth for one who would earn godhood?" Zeus asks intently. He has his own idea, but he wonders what the Dagda could plan.

He's said to be clever, after all.

"That depends entirely on who is being tested," the Dagda says, "You would not test a future god of war or battle the same way you would test a future god of wisdom or magic."

"If I were to test my great grandson Ronan I would ask him to craft something of power and beauty that has never been seen before and would be of great use to our people. But for my niece Saraid she would have to prove herself on the feild of battle either against overwhelming odd or single handedly slaying a beast of great power."

"Intriguing thoughts. My grandchildren are all as varied as the colors of the sunrise. I will think more on this. But we must work quickly if these new offspring are to be ready in time to challenge the Asgardian in his adulthood.

Svalin Thorsdottir is nearly ready to bring her son into the world and time will pass all too quickly before he is a man grown." Zeus says.

"Aye it is true we do not have as much time as we would like to deal with this situation," the Dagda says, "But there should be plenty for our plan to work."

"Yes we should start this now."

"That would be wise for us to do so," the Dagda says, "Though for now it would be wise to keep this all a secret for the time being."

"Of course. The other gods are too short-sighted to understand what we plan and will accuse us of treason and worse should they learn.

I will speak to you again when I can." Zeus says.

With that, Zeus vanishes in a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning.

The Dagda smirked the lightning truly was impressive though he preferred subtler methods himself. With that he disappeared in the blink of a eye back to Murias.
