Dum Dum Dugan was a favorite uncle, a grandfather and Santa all rolled into one for Sammy. While other tots wore shirts that said 'If Mom says no, ask Grandma', hers proudly proclaimed 'IF DUM DUM SAYS NO, I DIDN'T WANT IT ANYWAY!'. Dugan promised a ten year old Sammy that when she took over S.H.I.E.L.D., he would be right there as her right hand man. She adored him nearly as much as she did her brother.
She didn't want him hurt, and she wasn't sure Mikel would make sure the old walrus would be okay like he had Mom. She wanted to be the one to bring him in peacefully so Mikel and Therese could talk to him about their plans.
She knocked on his door and waited for him to invite her in.
