Calling Around
A lot going on very quickly. It had been so long that it was just him and Gio... then Angelo. Since then, things have grown quickly. Andrew fully intended to take advantage of that. Now that they've brought on some official staff, it was time to take advantage of all that momentum. As soon as he gets caught up, however temporarily, on paperwork, he starts making calls...

Calling Xavier's.... asking for both Cassidy, and one of the McCoys.
Calling Nell.
Calling Rikki up at her convenience.
Calling Julian.

Any of these could go quite badly... but nothing was ever acheived through a lack of effort.

"Not a problem, I'm glad to see you again."

At the question, he considers a moment, then shakes his head. "It depends on what you mean by 'we'. I have a great deal of respect for Xavier, as does father, as does grandfather. The three of us just share that we disagree with his approach. He has a school full of children, some of them quite young, who are at risk. Providing them an opportunity to get an education, as students and mutants, makes sense, and he has turned out amazing results in people learning control.

My problem with the approach is that he and his Cerebro pick and choose who get to attend... and then he stops at the school capacity, at the point where he can keep it secret. Secrecy is one way to provide protection, but by nature, it means he's trying to change the world with, essentially, an elitist agenda. Not training up a first generation to protect the school, and trying to make sure everyone in need of his services can attend, not trying to expand, and making his dream part and parcel of the requirements to remain in attendance. If you don't buy the party line for long enough, you're on your own... people who don't agree with him need protection, need education, need control too.

So, do I think you're hiding? No, you're attending school. I think Xavier is hiding you though, yes. Which is not quite the same thing."

"Nice to meet you," Izzy said before sitting down.

She kept her mouth shut when Andrew started to speak, just listening. She wasn't quite sure what to think of it...but she wasn't going to say anything that would possibly reflect badly on Cassidy. She was there to support him, not start something by accident.

Besides, Andrew's girlfriend looked vaguely threatening.

Cassidy thinks over Andrew's response for a few minutes, noting that he'd had a couple of the same thoughts. Few people found Xavier's by simply walking up to the front gate; Cassidy knew of only one person to do that so far. But everyone else had either been brought there after being sensed by the professor (like himself) or attended the school because of connections to someone who was there now or had been there before (like Izzy).

"I've been thinking a lot lately about those people who aren't lucky enough to be sensed by the Professor and what happens to them because they don't receive the training they need. Or if they're sensed too late.

I've been thinking about trying to help some of those people the way I was helped, people who don't realize there are other mutants out there, by finding them and showing them that they have options. Xavier's is one idea, but not everyone is a teenager needing an education. If that doesn't work for them...I was thinking maybe there's a way to refer them to the Consulate or somewhere they can go stay in safety and get help controlling their abilities and a way to be productive." Cassidy says.

"I hope I'm making sense here. I don't want to force anyone into anything, but I know what it was like for me, back when Sinister had me. If I'd known Xavier's or Genosha was out there, I might have fought harder to escape sooner. Instead, I thought I was stuck in the life I was in and that made things tough to deal with for awhile." he tells them.

"But... we can offer options in some cases. With increased awareness, we can expand our staff. I'm working now on finding a way to allow citizens of other nations to emigrate to Genosha and apply for citizenship.

More immediately though, we're working with a few groups to try and, first, make District X habitable. Set up employment opportunities, put in better low income housing, set up drug and life counseling... not to the level of Xavier's, but professional quality. If that works, I'm going to try and provide some security through the consulate. A district of a city can house a lot more people than Xavier's, and if we can protect it, we can advertise it.

This is not to say I'd consider trying to replace Xavier's. I respect his ideals, and I am impressed by his facilities. I'd love for there to be more academies like his, I just want there to be options for a greater number, and an option that is able to be made entirely public.

And actually, I'd like to see if someone can bring an offer to Xavier's. I'd like to offer a small group of international diplomacy and poly-sci students... all baseline humans, an opportunity to study baseline human-mutant relations, ending with a two week trip to Genosha. As Giovanna noted, we don't have the educational resources though. We can provide a grant to a college willing to host it, we can supply travel and protection for students... but we need trained educators willing to teach the class. I was hoping Hank McCoy might be willing.

But that's down the road a little. First, I'd like to hire you for the Summer... to see if we can work with Xavier's some, coordinate resources. Also, and mainly, to work with our new director of public affairs to help work on the clean up of District X - suggest programs, help advertise it when there's enough infrastructure, and... seeing as you're familiar with Sinister, keep an eye out for influence from people like him, to keep bad and inflammatory influences out from the mutant side.

Frankly, I have my hands full... and I'm a politician, not a social worker. I'd like to give Nell more help... and you sounded like you had ideas."

Cassidy smiles at Izzy, glad for her presence. This seemed far less intimidating than it would have been if he were alone.

"Well, I do want to help any way I can, Andrew. Like I told you during my last visit, I've been reading a great deal about philosophy and looking for ways to help out." Cassidy says.

"My main idea is to help those people who need another option in their lives. It's the only way I can--" Cassidy stops, realizing that he was about to say something he hadn't meant to.

"It's the best way that I can see to help." he says.

"Yes, I'd like to join up with you this summer. I just have to ask for Independence Day to be free. Izzy and I are going to Kentucky to hang out." he says.
