Svalin was stretched out on one of the large couches in the rec room of the main building and was trying hard to enjoy sitting still. Her feet and ankles had started to swell and her wife wasn't going to let her do much besides sit and put her feet up as much as she could. Svalin had tried to argue but it didn't get her anywhere except sitting on the couch with her feet up.

She sighed and looked at the television. To Kill a Mockingbird was on and Svalin was still waiting for the killing to start. Why was kill in the title if there was no killing in it? It didn't make much sense to her, but it was one of her wife's favorite movies and Svalin would watch it.

Svalin focused on the television and was surprised by the sudden kick. She gasped and reflexively put her hand on her stomach.

Five of them, the oldest, turn into bats, following after Vernique as she heads for the window. The push forces the group back, flinging vampires about the room and giving Vernique a head start, but its not long before they're working on wolf-packing it, trying to surround and wear down the Asgardian.

Sigurdur knows what's happening, but without a weapon to his name, he's going to lose to the numbers game in this battle.

Still, he lashes out with a fist here and a foot there, trying to take as many down with him as possible.

At her smallest size, darting out of the window, Vernique really is like a bullet with butterfly wings. And she's aiming in the direction of Hal's studio lot.

"SVALIN!" she screams.

Thankfully Asgardian hearing is very good and the two heard the cry.

"Brother, go to her aid," she /commanded/. "I wilt be behind thee." Hal had always been able to run faster than Svalin, more so now.

He hesitates for only a moment. Leaving the heir when
Dracula is about rankles him - but he's not going to disobey either.

He climbs back to the roof, waiting for Vernique. "Thou'rt distressed. What troubles thee?"

Vernique gasps out enough to talk after travelling at her utmost top speed. "Vampires. Lots. Sig's totally outnumbered and we've got civilians."

He nods. "Where? I wilt deal with them... someone needst look after Svalin. Dracula attacked us."

She points. "Olive St. The restaurant with the broken windows and the bats flying out of it. I'll get Svalin back home."

Tired as he is, he's not about to turn down the fight. Halbjorn leaps off towards the address indicated, trusting his sister's wife to handle the evacuation and make sure Svalin didn't get in further trouble.

And Vernique does indeed hurry down to Svalin.

"How fares thee, wife?" Svalin asked when she sees Vernique. "Art thou injured?"

"I'm fine," Vernique says as she gets bigger. "I left Sig surrounded and with civilians to worry about, though. Ambush." Vernique looks around at some of the nearby damage. "You, too?"

Sigurdur is trapped in a ring of vampires, and bleeding from several cuts both light and deep. He was keeping them at bay for the moment, but the noose was tightening.

"Come at me, then, cowards! How many more of thy number wilt I send to Hel before mine fall?" he snarls at the vampires.

"I art fine. Let us go home." With that they headed home.

There was a sickening crack, then a squishing noise. As heads turn, Halbjorn is standing, with the head of one of the vampires in hand, a body lying next to him, axe in the other hand.

"Thou shalt not fall today." he growls out, tossing his axe towards Sigurdur - he can fight bare handed. "Arm thyself and fight to victory." he snarls, backhanding a couple vampires out of the way as he moves towards offering his back to Sigurdur.

Sigurdur catches the axe and uses the momentum to cleave a nearby vampire in two.

He was glad for Halbjorn's presence and felt a renewed wave on energy come over him.

"Demons, your time ends now!" Sigurdur yells, lashing out with the axe again as he stands back-to-back with Hal.

Normally, Halbjorn is terrible to try and stand back to back with, but right now, he's through the rage, and half-exhausted, fighting more out of training than fury. He takes his share of hits, fighting expertly, but sluggishly, but has a well deserved reputation for toughness, shrugging most off with little more than shallow rakes of claws, smashing down vampires who get too careless.

Sigurdur fights with renewed vigor, doing his best to watch Hal's flank and his own so that they can't be piled upon.

He still bleeds, but Sigurdur attempts to cut down another vampire who gets too close to him and kicks at another.

The Bloodaxe works wonderfully at cutting through Vampires.

Finding no openings, even if one Asgardian is bloodied, and the other is fighting exhausted, the vampires last only til three of their number are slain. With their target having disappeared, the eldest signals a retreat.

A couple turn to bats, a couple to mist, most just flee, abandoning the place as rapidly as their various powers allow them.

Halbjorn manages to grab one, breaking its neck as they retreat, but otherwise is in no shape to pursue, just snarling after the retreating bloodsuckers.

Sigurdur's renewed energy begins to falter as the vampires retreat, and he uses the Bloodaxe to keep himself standing. Once he's a bit more steady, he returns Hal's axe to him.

"Halbjorn, thy aid ist greatly appreciated on this night. Without thine assistance, the battle would hath gone much worse." Sigurdur says.

"How fares thee? Didst thou see Lady Vernique? She wast with me, but I bade her retreat while I held off those creatures." Sigurdur says.

"Svalin wast attacked?" Sigurdur asks, shock coloring his tone. He was glad that Halbjorn was there to aid her, but in truth, Sigurdur knew he was derelict in his duty.

"Then we must return home. I must take up mine watch over Svalin." he says grimly.

He could not falter again. His job was to protect Svalin and her son, not enjoy the company of Midgard women.

"Come, Halbjorn, we shalt go." he says.

"Aye." he agrees, "She wast with me, typically secure enow. Dracula wast not one of the threats we had cause to expect. I had thought him slain." he replies, heading towards the door.
