You did what with another AI? I'm a /what/?
It was getting to be crunch time and finals were on the horizon and Anya was doing the usual last minute push to get things done before the end of the semester. The end of her second year was fast approaching and there was a project to finish up before finals hit.

She looked at the computer screen. That couldn't be right. Dammit she just did a diagnostic on the M.A.R.A.'s (Maintenance And Repair Automoton) systems and these readouts looked /wrong/. Well they looked very different from the ones from the diagnostics she did two days ago. This couldn't be happening now. Not when she was so close to finishing the project and handing it in.

"Goddard? Are these the correct readouts?" she asked the AI in her lab.

"That's my little futurist." Tony says, smiling at Anya.

"Speaking of the future...I've been working on some new nanites, sweetie. Ones that can withstand EMP bursts, in light of Toni's recent troubles. I was thinking that maybe you'd want to exchange your old ones for the new ones once testing is finished." Tony says.

"I'll make one for you if it works," she said. She didn't have to ask if he wanted one. She knew him better than anyone else. Including her mother. "Do you mean I want a way to prevent people from crippling me, well duh! Of course I do."

"Good. I'd like to give you the first chance at them, and then I'll see if anyone else could use them." Tony says, smiling at Anya.

"Also...you and Justin have done a lot of good work regarding Zero-Point Energy. You've both made strides that I couldn't have foreseen, and I think it's time Stark Industries shared those innovations with the world.

What do you think about that?" he asks.

"Justin," she said. "With his heart. They could repair the damage to it."

Anya was quiet for a moment. She knew this moment would eventually come when she and Justin created the first module.

"I think it's about time," she said. "But it will piss off the oil companies and most of the middle east countries."

"You're right. I should have thought of Justin next, but he's on the list as of now." Tony says, kicking himself a bit in his head for not thinking of him. It just went to show how off his game he was in most areas.

"I know it'll make them angry, which is what I want. Big Oil has been getting away with robbing the American people for years, and holding people hostage with high gas prices. Your grandfather, for all of his many faults, knew this and wanted to bring cleaner, more affordable energy to the public.

The Middle East is always going to be a hotspot, but if we can limit dependence on foreign oil, they'll stop accusing of us using everything in the book to take it, and start fixing the problems in their own backyards as well. I know, it's a lot to hope for, but if you plan to dream, dream big." Tony says, moving to Anya's computer.

"If you want to bring up the ghost server on the Stark Industries mainframe, I'll show the ideas I have. You and Justin are going to take the lead in introducing it to the world, Anya.

I'm proud of both of you." he says.

"Oh no. I'm quite fine letting the company introducing this to the world. I'm quite fine staying out of that spotlight until after college though I'm not above getting some of the profits from it."

She looked at the screen and thought about what she wanted. A moment later it connected to the specified server and brought up the directory tree.

Tony directs Anya to the proper drive and points her to the "ZPE" folder. Inside, Anya will see several ideas Tony has for Zero-Point energy. One is for a line of cars that run on Zero-Point and the names of several major American auto producers. One of them will be contacted.

Another plan outlines an entire business plaza run from a Zero-Point generator. Schools and hospitals also have representation in this schematic.

"The profits from this will be huge, Anya. You and Justin stand to make quite a bit of money on this, in addition to what the company will make from the bids from everyone who will want their businesses upgraded with this technolgy.

I'm actually considering a new subsidiary to do the installations. What do you think?" Tony asks cautiously.

"For starters, I would also approach one of the foreign auto makers seeing that how pollution production is supposed to rise dramatically in China and India. It's not just about breaking the dependency on oil and having someone who can deliver quickly to those two areas would help a great deal."

"I would also set up a house or two to run on zero point energy. It would show that it can be scaled to fit almost any situation."

"A subsidiary to handle this tech is a good idea. It's going to take off quickly and we need to keep this from disrupting the company too much."

She smiled.

"I'll talk to Justin about the name."

"Those are all good points, Anya, especially on the subsidiary. You and Justin collaborate on that name and get back to me. I think I'll ask Rhodey to head it up until you two are ready to discuss how and where it'll go from there." Tony says.

"Meanwhile, I'll be working on getting all of this stuff up and running, because I could use the distraction." Tony says.

"From the fight with Mom?" she asked. "What are you two fighting about? The last time you two were like this was when I was ten and you did something major without telling her."

"Your mother and I aren't fighting. We're simply agreeing to disagree in separate rooms and at most meal times." Tony says.

"I may or may not have omitted information during her pregnancy that I thought would not only upset her, but force her to do something she wouldn't otherwise do. I may or may not also have talked your brother into not telling her or Logan." Tony says, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

"So, something came up and I had to come clean with your mother. She may or may not be taking issue with the fact that I told her five months after she had Eddie." Tony says.

He tries not to think about the parallels in the situation with Tasha and the fact that he's also keeping something rather huge from his daughter. Most days, he felt like he was going to explode with all of the secrets he was keeping, but he knew that it was done for the good of the people involved.

At least that's what he tells himself.

Anya sighed and threw her hands up. Adults. They were impossible at times.

"When are you ever going to learn? Have you tried chocolate and a promise not to do it again? Maybe even add in a little groveling and things I don't want to think about."

"Well, that's the thing, sweetie. I don't really feel like I did anything other than keep your mother and little brother safe. That was my main goal from the start. Could I probably have gone about it better? Yes. Do I regret not telling her so she and Logan could go chasing, waddling in her case, after this guy?

No. Not one bit." Tony says.

"Though, I did think about the chocolate thing, but almost every time I see her now, she's cleaning her gun or putting it back together. I would rather be there when she has a working gun and me in the same room.

Poor Eddie will be in therapy the rest of his life." Tony says.

"You're both stubborn people and you both think you're always right. One of you will have to make the first move or otherwise I have to go through the two of you splitting up /again/ and Nick will have to go through it for the first time. Quite frankly, I don't want to go through it again. Don't make me lock the two of you in a room together."

"Yes, this is true. Still, we'll work through it, Anya. No one is leaving anyone if I get my say in it. I just have to convince your mother that I was acting to keep her safe, rather than trying to keep her out of the loop.

That's going to be hard-fought battle, but not impossible." Tony says.

Tony just laughs. Someday, Steve will have to deal with a crazy inventor making all kinds of crazy toys for their baby.

"Speaking of kids...this thing about the AIs having a kid was a late April Fool's Joke, right? They didn't really suggest that to you, did they?" Tony asks.

"/You/ won't. It's /them/ I'm worried about." Tony says with a sigh.

"This would only happen in our family. You know that, right? I'm not sure I should tell your mother about this, because I don't think she'd like to be a great-grandma so soon after having a baby."
