Time for a Chat
Danielle was resting after another blood test. Vicki wasn't far from her if she needed anything.
There'd been a great deal going on, and Moira had several things on her mind, only some of which she wanted there.
So that afternoon she called up an old pal.

Vincent listens and nods politely. "My power.. is more inborn. I've learned to work with the elements as well, but I've never heard them speak with me as you describe it." He stated that perhaps a bit enviously.

"I'd love to discuss the workings of your magic, or how it is worked through you, perhaps, at length some other time." He smiled. "For now though..." He glanced towards Moira, then held up the bottle. "May I offer you the chance to tell me a a bit about yourself over a glass of mead?"

"I'd be happy to speak with you on any topic you're interested in, but I'll pass on the mead, thank you. I don't drink alcohol, but you're more than welcome. Thank you. Please, make yourself comfortable."

Vincent sits down, examining Lucas for a moment. "What are some of your interests? Besides.. listening." He smiles.

"I spend as much time as I can outdoors. Camping, hiking, swimming, hunting, fishing... I cook, some. Other than that, I'm studying psychology. My mutant ability is dreampathy, so in addition to just being interesting, its helping me learn what I'm doing. You?"

Moira sits beside Lucas and let's them have the conversation for the moment. She smiles a little at the general good sense of Lucas's research interests.

"With the exception of museums, zoos, and art galleries, I'm a bit more nocturnal in terms of being outside. City nightlife is my passion, after science, magic, and formerly women. Now relegated to just one woman in particular." A pause. "Happily so, just to clarify." He grinned.

"As for my inborn talents... they're numerous, but can be simplified down to the traits of Asgardian blood, high sorcerous power, and a mind-bashingly advanced intellect."

"All that and humble too?" Lucas asks with a small smile and quirked brow. "I'm afraid that while museums and zoos are both high on my list, we don't share a lot in common. I tend to associate the words active nightlife with noisy crickets and racoons in the campsite. I can't say much for a passion for women either... I seem to have gotten that perfect on the first try."

"Demi-gods are entitled to a bit of candor, good sir." Vincent replies with a smirk. "Well I'm sure that will be a sufficient bit of common ground, provided we can firmly instill unto Moira and Danielle the difference between a petting zoo and a free-range buffet." He chuckles.

"And you would do well to remember that last part." His tone is friendly, but his face hints at a mild undercurrent of politely threatening concern. So far though, the boy seems alright.

Lucas tone is matter-of-fact as he replies. "I'm afraid that I disagree. Speaking as the son of the woman who earned her way into Asgard's most exclusive special forces unit, all being a demi-god earns you in my book is potential... a ton of potential either to genuinely earn a bit of ego through good deeds and the heroic sacrifice the Asgardians are so known for... or a ton of potential to squander all that potential on self-congratulation, which, from the stories I've been told, is all too common. From me at least, you'll get precisely the respect you earn. My god is here." he replies, gesturing to the stream and the woods around them with a sweeping hand.
"He's never left, and he's in everything I interact with out here and I strive every day to be worthy to be a part of it. In the face of that, I see the gods like everyone else - capable of great good, or great evil - just more so, and to be judged by their deeds, who they are, not what they are, and if we're to be friends, you'd do well to remember that. At the moment, the only credit you have here is being Moira and Danielle's friend... they're wonderful people, so that counts for a lot."

His tone softens as he glances at Moira. "That said, sir, my nature is that of protector and defender. If I were to hurt the girl I find myself quickly falling for in any way, the pain that would cause me would be far worse than anything anyone else in the long line of people who look after her could do. The line starts with Moira herself, who is more than capable... part of what I like about her, then Danielle, then her father. While I respect a friend trying to look after their friend, before your tone gets too threatening, I would strongly suggest you consider apologizing to the friends and family of every single girl you've loved and left in your self-acknowledged casanova background before I consider you to have any room to threaten me whatsoever, so please don't do so again unless you're fully intending to kick my ass just to prove you're a big man who can, which, frankly, would make me think a lot less of you, not more."

He extends his hand. "Now, that said and things straight between us, I'm Lucas Moonstar, son of Danielle Moonstar, former Valkyrie. I'm a mutant dreampath and shaman, and have tremendous respect for humility and people who earn what respect they feel they deserve, in part because that's how my teachers, family, and the spirits themselves teach in how my magic works... that's why they listen to me and work with me, because I know I'm a small part of something much bigger, and strive to earn their respect. I'm also Moira's boyfriend, and very honored to be so. I intend to strive every day to deserve that honor as well, because she is, quite frankly, the most beautiful girl I've ever met in all ways that matter. Since you wanted to get to know me, there you go."

Polite and eloquent but straightforward and says the sweetest things. Moira can't help but smile and say "Thank you," quietly.

Still confident that no one present is dumb enough to ever have had any intention of kicking anyone's ass, she then looks to Vincent. "Done worrying yet? And if you ever want to go to look at animals with Danielle and me, I do think we can grasp the idea of their belonging to someone else." Another warm, if slightly less impressed and more teasing, smile.

Vincent was exceedingly grateful to Moira for speaking first. It gave him time to reconsider his instinctive response, and compose himself. A tinge of red might have shown in his ears a moment earlier. He muttered to his friend. "He's eloquent. I'll grant him that right from the start." He clears his throat as he calms himself, having especially bristled at the Valkyrie mention. Martial combat was a sore area for Vincent, when compared to proper Asgardian standards.

"Lucas, I apologize if we got off on the wrong foot. My.. social circle, while wide, is something tenuous at best. I don't pursue many friendships. I love strongly, if rarely, and Moira's family were the first people I learned to care for; I must politely ask you to excuse my bravado today. I have no wish to fight anyone if it can be avoided, Moira will attest to that of my nature. I only wished to fulfill my part in trying to look out for a very dear friend, let alone one new to this world."

His expression darkens slightly. "I know full well what my capacity is, and it is my mortal half that should always be of much graver concern." He shakes those issues off, for the moment.

He extends his hand as well. "A pleasure. I'm Vincent Amorason, son of Amora the Enchantress, of Asgard, and Victor Von Doom, of Latveria. I am a child of chaotics at best, and a malicious rogue and heartless monster, respectively, at worst. My family is the Fantastic Four, with due respect to Lord Hrimhari's clan as well. I am a sorcerer and a scientist, who has been forced from the time I could walk to learn to control and leash what I am capable of doing. I would be considered a frail and weak thing by Asgardian standards, but find myself alone in what I can do on Midgard. I have had fortune beyond what I have likely earned to have a family that I care for beyond reason, and a woman that I adore, and who loves me, even if that is not a sentiment I can return just yet. I have also been blessed with exceptional friends, that it was to my great detriment to lose for many years." He smiles at Moira.

"I think anything else can be filled in as we go." He gives Lucas' hand a squeeze, along with a lopsided smile.

Lucas shakes his hand and nods. "That's a lot better, thank you Vincent, and its nice to meet a friend of Moira's, and a fellow magic worker, however one does it. As for your bravado, you might consider leaving it at home from time to time. If the girls consider you a friend, and you're part of the Fantastic Four, I'm quite sure you're capable of being a very nice person... but the ego doesn't do you any favors in making new friends. No one likes to feel like they're being talked down to. Besides, I've always found that the people I consider the wisest and most intelligent realize that however much they know, and however much they've learned, its vastly eclipsed by how much they have left to learn. If, as you say, you've found yourself in possession of incredible abilities here on Midgard... then I'm very happy for you. Do incredible things with them, instead of telling people about them, and you'll earn my respect. Act like you want to be my friend, instead of a bully or a superior, and I may well call you my friend in time too. Its a pleasure to meet you."

There's a slight shift in Moira's expression at one point as Vincent speaks -- she doesn't think it's a good idea to go around telling people about the extent of Andrea's feelings before Vincent can share them and admit to doing so. But she doesn't say anything, because Vincent's getting plenty of Helpful Suggestions at the moment.

But there's one thing she has to say.
"Now that the two of ye are acquainted, you can make yourselves useful. Something like explaining why it's called the world series when not even the whole hemisphere seems to be involved in it."

"Because we can hardly keep talking about rough starts or differences in magic or who's related to monsters. Not with my ignorance and my grandfathers, respectively." Although that's another case where the human monster could be considered more disliked.

Lucas grins and nods. "I'd much rather talk baseball, thank you. Its called the world series because originally, they intended other nations to join and form international rivalries. Because of the expense of overseas travel at the time, none did until they added two Canadian teams. But the US major leagues are still recognized as the top place in baseball, so the best players from around the world still come here. They thought about changing the name for a while, but world series had stuck." he replies.
"Besides, you're hardly ignorant. You and your people are as connected to the outdoors as I am. In a lot of ways, you're a lot closer to my kind of magic than Vincent is, and I'm as ignorant about what he does as you are, which is fine with me. I don't think I'd be a very good student of Asgardian sorcery."

"Lucas accurately explained the baseball situation, most likely better than I could. Athletic competitions don't interest me greatly."

He considered Lucas perspective on sorcery. "Wizardry you might be able to get a graps on. Sorcery is something you simply can or can't do, based on inborn power."

Vincent tilted his head at Moira. "I... don't believe you ever mentioned Lady Rahne's father, only Lord Loki."

Moira smiled. "Thank ye; I was wondering. I really dinna know much about baseball, except that some of Mummy's friends thought Da would make a good pitcher for the Mets." She chuckled.

Moira shrugs. "He was a liar and a cad with a penchant for fear, indoctrination, and firey torches."

"We didn't have a television... I used to listen to Colorado Rockies games on the radio most nights during the season. As for wizardry and sorcery... that's alright. Even if I had the potential, I think I'll stick to being a shaman. That's study and work enough."

"Well... I didn't know you might like baseball. The playoffs are pending, but we might just have time to go see a game... third date, I'll treat you to both of our first live pro baseball game? Hopefully hot dogs and soda will do instead of oat cakes and ginger ale?"
He glances between the two, knowing something of Rahne's background from his mother. He nods in agreement with Moira's sentiment.
