Time for a Chat
Danielle was resting after another blood test. Vicki wasn't far from her if she needed anything.
There'd been a great deal going on, and Moira had several things on her mind, only some of which she wanted there.
So that afternoon she called up an old pal.

"Aye, that's she. The Valkyrie. Lucas is very nice."

Moira had expected to go to the Baxter Building, but since that doesn't seem Vincent's intention and she can't think of anywhere else, she opens the gate again. It would be completely inhospitable to stand out here any longer. "There is a bench at one spot near the lake."

Vincent smiles. "A far cry from the forests of your father, but I think natural settings suit the mead best." He proceeds through the gate, feeling the telltale pricklings of not so distant psychics checking out the new voice in their territory. A gentle retaliatory pulse silences the noise.

He smirks as they walk along. "Do you remember when your family went to visit your grandmother after I'd met you? When nobody thought to tell me?"

Moira smiles. "How was I to know ye didna know when December was? ...Or how long it was, apparently?"

"Such a cruel fate, for a small child." Vincent reminisces. "I went through what I now understand as the 'stages of grief' leading to acceptance. At first I thought you were just out and about as you might be any given day. Then came anger at the thought you were avoiding me on purpose, followed by the gifts I left by your den, trying to entice you to play with me again. Then depression, and just as I was coming to terms with being friendless again, I was finally told by one of your father's servitors where you had gone."

He shakes his head as they stroll towards the lake. "It seems ironic that here we are years later, with me having the lion's share of knowledge of Midgard."

"Och, poor bairn," Moira says sympathetically, sounding particularly like her mother for a moment. "You did seem to like, along with our recovered company, the candy we brought back for you."

She makes a slight scoffing noise, though still smiling, at the word 'servitors' -- it's not the sort of term the pack ever uses. The prince's dominance was quite thorough, but the social dynamic had no real equivocation to the Enchantress's house, that was certain.

"That thou hast," she chuckles. "One month a year is only so much one can learn. Mummy and Da and the little ones are going to come here this December, too."

"Yes, I have a fondness for flavorful items... and Mother always preferred more subtle fare in our home." Vincent admitted, spotting the bench around the curve of the lake's edge.

He unmistakably lit up at the mention of the impending visit. "Lady Rahne is coming? Please, keep me appraised of when she will arrive. I... I owe her much, and would very much like to speak with her."

Moira trots over and takes a seat.

"Of course. She'll be glad to see you, too." She grins. "I've already told Lucas we needn't worry about Da scaring him off until then."

"Yes, but unlike Lord Hrimhari, I am here." He sits down, uncorking the mead and pulling a pair of goblets from his backpack with a dial on each one. "Rotate it upwards for warmed mead, or downwards to keep it chilled." He smiles.

"And what can you tell me about this... boy?"

"Och, how clever!" She'll keep it chilled for now.

Moira chuckles at Vincent's adorable attempt to play stand-in for her Da.

"He's intelligent, polite, a verry good cook, no more interested in being cooped up inside than I, and in combat, he had everyone else's back. I like him. Now I know a bit about what a lovely person Andrea is, but tell me more."

"Hm." Vincent gathered his thoughts. It was a rather important question after all.

"She's very beautiful, and embarassingly intelligent. Not as much as me, mind you, but still remarkably so. Brave to a fault, and would gladly sacrifice herself for others, although obviously I hope it never comes to that. There's a certain... stiffness to her behaviors occasionally, in the way that she analyzes everything, but it makes her seem naturally curious. We have enough similar interests to find shared activities, but enough divergent ones to keep the conversation from stagnating, and to still find things to do in each other's absence. She doesn't understand magic at all, but she more or less hangs on my words when I end up going on about it."

A pause, followed by a shy smile as he sipped his mead. "She is a very good kisser."

Vincent nods. "A not unimpressive gesture." He is about to say more, but decides otherwise.

"You'll tell me if anything he does displeases you?" He looks at her sincerely.

"Honesty is hardly ever in question with you, my dear." Vincent smirks.

"Your willingness to divulge stressful information to those whom you care about however..." He sips his mead.

Moira doesn't say things like 'damn straight', but she nods.

Then she looks thoughtful for a moment, before "If there is trouble, I will let you know."

Another thought. "...Speaking of trouble, if you dinna want to talk about your experience recently, 'tis understandable, but...I hope your people are all right."

"It was the son of a very close friend of mine, and the love of my idiot brother's life. In the wake of her death, he'd taken over the world and twisted it in his image."

He paused. "I had... given up much in that world."

"Maddened by grief, I suppose. That's terrible." She sets a sympathetic hand on his shoulder in silence for a while.

Finally. "Certainly puts a mad slug from another realm wanting to put my companions on television into perspective."

Vincent paused to consider that. "Yes... I suppose it does."

He finished his glass of mead and poured himself another one, warming it this time. "There was a much worse facet than what I had become though. It was why I made a certain sacrifice. Andrea had been nearly lost... and it occurred to me that I can't save her as easily as I could my brother or Cassandra."

Vincent stared out across the lake. "I could pursue lines of magic to create new bodies, move souls about like so much clay, but..." He looked over to Moira. "All of that is meaningless when the girl I care for most doesn't have a soul. She's more than simply a robot... but is what makes her 'her' something that could survive being copied?"

Moira listens to all this and thinks for a while. "Vincent, I'm neither scholar nor mage, but...I would strongly think what makes her her can go as much beyond wires as the soul goes beyond bio-chem-ical reactions." Moira pronounces the 'Granny's Words' as best she can. "I canna tell thee when 'tis wise to interfere with for anyone, though. Mummy always tries to make Da promise not to do 'something rash' when the time comes...." Her speech has gotten thoughtlessly erratic, but no matter.

"Without undue destruction, and given the chance to maintain herself, Andrea could outlive us all... even myself." Vincent mutters.

"But... if even that miserable shade I became in that world was willing and able to save her.. how could I settle for less?"
