Andrea had been working on a paper at the time, her wireless connection to her desktop computer allowing the words to fly across the screen as fast as she could think them. References quickly appeared and were tagged, the contents of her textbooks already having been downloaded to her brain.
It all goes black.

It was quiet. Deathly so. The usual stream of data and signals that filled her mind, especially within the Baxter Building, were gone. She tried to run a diagnostic and found that the signals did not respond.
Her vision, she realized, lacked the data overlay it usually did. Panic seized her and she felt her... heart? beating faster in her chest.
It was a disturbingly familiar sensation.
" Query: What has happened?"
The voice, cold and metallic, got her attention. She found herself staring at a replica of herself, cast in perfect gleaming metal.
She screamed.
